*smile* Carnie was beautiful when she was 300 pounds... she can sing like a bird... I loved the Wilson Sisters... I used to buy Playboy 20 years ago... sex sells eh? I wonder what it says about Playboy that they find her 'suitable' to grace their pages now... but not when she was the same person she was @ 300 lbs?

sorry Montana... but this is post is pitifully SHALLOW to me...

Carnie Wilson, whether you like her or not, is a PERSON... not a THING... the fact that you even say it that way, frankly offends me.

she may have a beautiful body... obviously somebody at Playboy thought it was worth taking pictures of...

the human body is beautiful in more than one form... if we were all 36,32,34 blond college co-eds what a borning world this would be...

GROW UP.

Not my type personally, but I don't see any reason why she couldn't/shouldn't be in Playboy at this time.

Amazing that you probably jerked it to Anna Nicole Smith who is now over 200 lbs (and if weren't for all the drinking and drugs would still be just as beautiful).

Just remember, you can still drown in the SHALLOW end.

hey flame away, all comments posts, replies etc are all welcomed.

Now to address a couple things, when I made the comment "i see of all things/people" it was meant as a figure of speech, like when I was walking down the street and of all the things I could have seen....blahblahblah. Does that mean that the people or animals, or buldings are all things, well some people (myself being one) would have to say, yes a person is a THING.

and Playboy takes pictures to sell magazines, they don't really care what the person looks like, I have seen ugly (in my opinion) Playmates as well as the issue of Lissa Rinna a few years back where she was naked.

I know that last comment is gonna catch some hell, bring it on.

So, to further this conversation, why CANT people complain about the people that they pay to see naked?

I think if you slap down $5 for a Playboy (or however much it is) you deserve to see some quality nudeness in those pages. You want to see the classic quality of babe that you're so used to seeing over the years.

Is it shallow for a man to be disappointed by an investment?

You guys turned this into a woman's rights speech when all it was really about was a magazine that the guy PAID for.

Halx, I think there's a difference between "Hmmm, this layout has a blonde in it and I prefer redheads" and calling comeone a "fat pig."

Nothing against Montana, but the jist I got from his original post was that Carnie Wilson use to be fat and therefore, no one would want to see her naked. I can't speak for everyone, but I like larger women. Different strokes for different folks (that's right, there's a pun in there)

No, I don't think it shallow for anyone to be unhappy because they saw someone naked they didn't want to. I think it's shallow when they think I want to see the same naked women that they do.

reply, maybe i can start to clear things up a bit, it is not tha fact she is/was a large woman at all, I frequently browes the titty board and will loook at a plumper post or two on occaision, also point out that I hate bean poles myself

My whole original point I guess was to point out the fact that we are in some way going to idolize in some way a woman who once was a very large woman for having her insides cut up so she could lose weight. While I understand not all people have willpower and some may have a medical condition, I personally don't want to see someone who had this type of procedure done to lose weight. Also I am somewhat upset by the fact at how she made it that much more public by having it done live on the internet, as well as how (obviously by doing PB) she parades around ohh look at me im sooo skinny now I am hot etc etc etc,

When in fact it was nothing she did outside of paying some bills got he this "new and improved" figure she is flauting.

I may wack til my hand falls off once i see it i don't know, I just don't really want to see her in a magazine that I had to pay for as Hal pointed out.

Well, Montana, with your clarification I must say I agree with you. In searching for a recent picture of Carnie in order to show her current appearance - apparently misunderstanding the intentions of your original post as you've stated - I was definitely disturbed by how she seems to have become some sort of poster child for weight loss. Countless sites with "her story" on it are out there and sites talking about her as motivation for overweight people everywhere.

I fail to see how having such a complete lack of willpower so that one needs to have surgery like that in order to lose weight is any motivation to other overweight people.

Even if, say, she has some genetic disorder which made her that fat (most people who get as fat as she was that is the case) there is nothing motivating about getting surgery to lose the weight. That's like looking towards someone who got breast implants and calling them motivation for small breasted women everywhere.

Inspired by Secret methods last post I googled and find this ... http://www.southnassau.org/nycswc.html

Quote:
The Decision of a Lifetime
The Carnie Wilson Story

"After 27 years of failure and frustration, trying every diet and exercise regimen imaginable, I weighed nearly 300 pounds. My doctors told me that my health outlook was grim. If I didn't lose a significant amount of weight soon, I was facing the probability of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, joint problems, certain cancers – and the looming prospect of a massive heart attack."

"I was morbidly obese – so obese that I could die."

"Determined to safeguard my future, I chose weight loss surgery to deal with this lifelong, life-threatening weight problem."

"Sixteen months later and 155 pounds lighter, I'm healthier and happier than I've ever been. I'm active, optimistic about my career, recently married, and I've never felt better about my life."
But namely taking not of the text under the picture

Quote:
"In the summer of 1999 I made a decision that changed my life forever." - Carnie Wilson, singer and daughter of Beach Boy Brian Wilson. Within 16 months of laparoscopic bariatric surgery, Carnie lost 155 lbs. and has become a role model for morbidly obese people who wish to re-shape their lives.
Yea she is a real fucking hero for the children. But then again this IS a site for the surgical procedure BUT then again, where are people considering this type of surgery probably going to go?

i want to clear something up first...

i did not in any way shape or form intend to turn this thread into a women-rights rant...

Hal, i agree that people are certainly entitled to having an opinion on any product that they choose to buy...

i simply did not appreciate the WAY in which Montana referred to Carnie. i accept his further clarification about calling her a "thing". i still feel the "fat pig" comments, etc. where negative, judgemental and somewhat shallow... the thread topic is "comments on this one are welcomed" so i commented...

i'm now feeling like my comments were not "okay"...

one other thing i'd like to add...
is this has thread now seems to have become the "anti-fat person who doesn't have the will power" issue...

look... extreme obesity is NOT a simple case of willpower vs. no willpower... it is an eating disorder... and addiction of sorts... a disease...
it's roots, reasons, treatment etc. are very complex... and to judge someone simply based on the fact that you don't feel she/he has will power or not in my opinion, is not fair.

whether or not you agree with why she had the surgery is really not what Montana was speaking to in his original thread... he simply said he that he thought Playboy was "at the bottom of the barrel"

if we want to talk about body image issues, obesity, why people have eating disorders, etc. etc. etc. that imo, is an entirely different conversation and more that is much more complex than "should Playboy take picutures of once fat chicks".

I was hoping someone would bring this up, eating is not a disease, it is someone being too lazy or not caring about their health, it really bothers me when someone calls "obesity" a disease. How is it a disease that this person won't stop eating unless it kills them? Cancer is a disease, AIDS/HIV is a disease, not someone being lazy or not caring about their body to stay in shape.

I do really welcome any and all comments to this one, thanks for keeping up on it Rain I do not take anything negtively or with a grain of salt, we all have our on thoughts and feelings which is the main reason we come here and the TFP continues to flourish because of it.

It's pretty clear that you don't understand how this kind of thing happens.

Let's put it another way: society pressured her enough that she got herself "cut open" as you put it, just to lose weight. Did it never occur to you that she may have tried other methods first only to have them fail? Could it be possible that you don't know the whole situation just because you read something in "Playboy" or "The National Enquirer"?

Speaking as a 300lb guy, I can tell you that society puts a noticable bit of pressure on people to lose weight. But that is the wrong reason to do it. I suspect she may have gone the medical route because it was affecting her health, NOT because she wanted to appeal to a wanker... Perhaps she had her own health in mind, needed to lose the weight quickly, and went to an extraordinary measure as you noted as a last resort.

Something tells me that, having gone through all this, she's very happy with the results, likes what she looks like now, is a bit of an exhibitionist, and now has a chance to show herself off. I would, too.

If you don't like the way she looks because of her exhibitionism, that's just twisted. And I'm fairly certain she couldn't care less.

Or maybe her motivation the whole time was to pose in playboy and it WAS all for vanity. I mean all I am saying is you profess to know all her reasons and you may be right but all I am saying is... you are just guessing as much as he is guessing. I defintly agree that there are certain medical conditions that cause people to be fat. Put the majority of people who are fat are in fact not affected by any specfic disease. If you eat more calories in a day then you burn you gain weight. Period. Of course if you are fat and you like it that way then go for it. I defintly do not think you should lose weight to impress me. The only reason you should lose wieght is either for your own health for sever medical reasons (Heart attacks and the like) or just because you want more energy and want to get more out of life. But don't go telling me how you can't lose weight because "society made you fat" OR because you were "born to be fat" because of a disease or all cop out bullshit like that. Again some people do have some sort of disease that causes them to be fat, most people do not. In the end all I want to say is this. Being fat is not a disease. There is nothing wrong with being fat. There is nothing wrong with being thin. I will not judge you for being fat but please do not blame me for being thin.

Well spoken BBtB

I do however think that because of the points being spoken by others it is time as well for me to leave the thread I have started, it seems as though some people in trying to make their points proven seem to just be bashing and MAKING THEIR POINT THE RIGHT ONE. This is not about all that, while replies and comments are welcome the negativity and your own revelling in the "facts" and statements you make is also repulsive. Not once have I been negative to someone but it seems that is the sole purpose of others continued responses whether well intentioned or not.

Montana, this thread started off fairly benignly, if she did loose all that wait just to be in Playboy then thats stupid, if it really was a life threatening situation then its not that bad that she got the surgery. But honestly, where the hell do you think the term "eating disorder" comes from? DISORDER, its real, diagnosed, and can be serious. If you dont think that and eating problem is a disease then you might as well reject the entire school of psychology. Its not a matter of just "stop being lazy" its something that they cant help doing. No control. Nothing can help except a radical change in there mental state through councelling or something else. If you have a few love handles and you cant get rid of them, then you might be a bit lasy. You might not eat the right diet or exercise enough or whatever. But when you 300 pounds and are trying everything to loose wait becuase if you dont then you'll probably die, your not just lazy. Honestly, mabye you should have put some thought, or at least reaserch into your last post.

I just saw the layout, and I should say she looks pretty good.
I especially like her breasts,
and I'm not a breast man.

Hey, all the more power to her.
If you feel comfortable, flaunt it.
Playboy has been a classy enough mag for years,
that many celebrities have felt comfortable enough to show off their assets.
Some have worked, some have not.
But then again, that can be said for any of the ladies.
Some hit you the right way, some don't

I say out of the many I have seen, she did pretty good.
I calls 'em, as I sees 'em.
