retarted kittens

I have retarted kittens! Now, I don't know anything for sure but we just had another litter of kittens a few weeks ago (yes, both mothers have appointments to be spayed!) and they were very different than these. They played, ate dry food, and were very social before they were 6 weeks old. I can't even get this litter to eat a piece of salmon much less cat food and they are very anti-social to people and with their brothers and sisters. This litter will be 6 wks. on Sat. and I don't know if I should still give them away or what. Any ideas? We're afraid their daddy might also be their grandfather.

Oh yeah.. and they NEVER cry. We can hold them upside down or whatever and they don't make a peep.

I'm sorry to hear it.

When you say they're antisocial with people, how antisocial?

They don't come up to play or aren't curious to what you're doing. It's not that they don't like people... they just don't seem to care.

haha I have a cat who has brain damage. It's always a great source of amusement.

Maybe your last litter was just super smart, so it's making these ones seem even less smart than they are?

Also, as far as I know it doesn't matter what relationship cats have with their mates as far as offspring go. I think cat breeders often mate siblings/parents-children etc. so I don't think they would do that if it was likely to cause many intellectual problems.

Well of course inbreeding is still a problem for cats, dogs and everything else. Inbreeding leads to a lot of fluctuations in genetic traits, which is usually bad (though also the source of evolution, if culling is performed, this is why most breads of dog are heavily inbred, and also heavily culled)

The question really is "why is this a problem?" So if the kitties are dumb, how does this really effect the role they are to play? A modern house cat does something between jack and shit. Once upon a time they were pest control, but thats rarely what people use them for anymore.

Really the only major problem with stupid kitties I can think of is not getting the whole "litterbox thing" You could always call the SPCA, and ask them what they think, I'm sure they are rife with useful opinions.

So give them away. They need a nice home to be stupid in ... as do we all.

No, inbreeding in cats doesn't automatically cause brain damage, as was pointed out earlier in the thread.

Anyway, retarded cats are far more entertaining than "normal" cats, they do all sorts of weird stuff. As giblfiz, they do nothing anyway, so what's the difference. As for the litterbox thing, my intellectually disabled cat uses his better than my "normal" cat does.
