So I cheat on TFP. I visit other forums. What other forums do you visit?

• Hydrogenaudio Forums is more of a tech junkie site for audio enthusiast. It is where I learn everything I know about audio software, codecs, and more. Great place, friendly and hard working mods, and kept very clean in terms of threads. It's actually a nerdier, audio-fixated version of TFP...
  
• VideoHelp is another site but kind of a nightmare for new users. The guides and threads are numerous... I find it challenging. It isn't like HA or TFP. Still I go to it because the people are helpful and the tool sections/comments are updated frequently with appended guides and what-naught. I am getting big into video encoding so this is a good place to start.

So where do you go, TFP'ers? What's it about and what brings you there.

I don't post on any other forums, really, but I'm an active member of several LiveJournal communities, all oriented towards various interests of mine--Naruto (fanfiction and icon communities), gaming (Girl Gamers unite!), and Venture Bros. I peek at the NarutoFan forum once in a while, mostly if the week's chapter was a cliffhanger, to see what the various theories out there are, but generally the level of discussion is a 1 whereas TFP is a 10. I just need to get more TFPers reading the Naruto manga on a weekly basis. :p

would browsing be the equivalent to being friends? posting the equivalent of kissing and private messages the equivalent of sex? and yeah, would having tfp open in another window be like having your normal partner downstairs and the person you´re cheating with in bed?

If it's just in another tab, is that worse?

I'm in an open relationship with TFP. So, when I need a little variety, or I have a consumer-based question, I'm over at TiVoCommunity. I'm more of a lurker there, however.

Nope. I created an account at the XKCD forums, but they were boring as hell compared to TFP.

I'm a member, but hardly ever post anymore (nobody does, really) at an unofficial Stone Sour Board, but in all fairness, I joined that one first. Manic_Skafe was a friend of mine over there and told me about a much bigger, better message board called tpf or tfp or something like that. After about 2 months of listening to him talk about how awesome this place was I figured I'd join, and here I am.

This was the first forum I ever joined when I was learning about the internet for the second time. I've joined other various ones whenever the opportunity arose, but I never found myself sharing intimate details or connecting with other members as profoundly as I do here. I did create a new identity just recently for a friend of the TFP's forum, but I lost it just as quickly due to a forgotten password. I'll try back in a week, but that leaves only TFP in the wake as far as forum participation goes. Now, as my online presence dwindles more as the days go by, I seem to focus most of my efforts and available time here, while also abandoning and shaking off the mulitple personalities I have created along the way.

I guess I just want something true.

I always go to three forums: This one, a local car club forum I'm a moderator on, and a forum dedicated to whatever happens to be interesting me at the time. So I guess that would make my car club my wife forum, TFP the mistress, and whatever grabs my interest day-to-day as the flings. (current fling: edcforums.com )

I check out a couple of horse-related forums. Usually just to stop in and read, I very rarely post unless someone's looking for advice and either no one has replied yet or the advice they're getting is very inadequate.

Although, like onesnowyowl, I am also a member of a few livejournal communities. Primarily horse-related.

I come to TFP for good writing, good discussion, and zomg punctuation and capitalization. If I read the other forums I visit more than once every couple of days, I think my IQ would begin to drop at an alarming rate.

unbelievable as it may seem to some, TFP doesnt satisfy all my appetites, so yes, I stray, each and every single day, in multiples :)

I've pretty much brainwashed myself about cars and even obsess about them, so I have to visit a couple of my regular car forums each day, plus I can't imagine not spending a good chunk of time here every day. From those I usually get distracted to another forum or two each day just following interesting links or news.

What can I say... I joined it for support during the crazy wedding prep time (5 week engagement), and I go back there about once a week just to see what kind of topics are rolling around. Most of the time, though, I get pissed off at the uber-feminist mindset that predominates over there.

There is only one other forum I have played footsie with...actually, I left that one to come here, lol, and I have gone back there to play twice but it's obvious I no longer have the stomach for it. It's a politics forum. I've been tempted to tell UsTwo about it, because over there he would be like a conservato-god. A veritable King Kong of conservativeland with the slack-jaws groveling at his feet offering up virgins and grapes and the very best American-made lagers. But then, I remember how much he loves us and I continue to keep it secret. :p

Glad to hear that you like it. I mean, I'm all for a healthy perspective of feminism, but when women get in-your-face snarky on each other's asses over something very petty (to me) in the grand scheme of things... yeah, it drives me nuts. I just wish there was a balance between the majority-male environment of TFP and the bitchfest going on at kvetch.indiebride.com... now, that would be my perfect forum. :)

I would but I haven't found anywhere I like better, at all - mainly it would be nice to find somewhere local for me, but most forums here suck. I also don't like forums that have only one topic - I don't live my life that way and TFP is like a mini internet world, which I love. I doubt there is anything like TFP here, and...I've grown accustomed to this place...

I sometimes pop back into Richarddawkins.net, Reel Horror, Fangoria and a few other horror ones, but they're mainly just for finding news for my blog (see in sig, thank you). This forum holds my attention much better.

The first time I posted on a forum, Halx and the TFP crew were probably still in Jr. High School.

For those familiar with the Utne Reader, it was the Utne Cafe and it was before web forums. It was on CompuServe.

I stayed with them when they moved to the web and even when Utne turned them loose and they became the New Cafe in 2005.

I still check in to see whats up, but havent posted since I joined TFP. I never did like the BBS still application they use (motet).

If I'm not mistaken, I sent Ustwo and a few others over there when I was in the thick of it-no one could hack it. :lol: I finally had enough as well and haven't been back in a year.

No I'm not cheating on you, and frankly I'm getting a little tired of all the accusations!

I frequent one other internet bar. It is devoted to my favourite band and includes all the standard message board content, complete with idiots, flamers and general unmoderated fun/irritation.

I much prefer it here and only visit there for the last news and gossip about said band.

Primarily, it is a relatively small community of people who upload photos - either found somewhere or photos of their own - and other people vote [this is good] or [this is bad]. Generally, it's not really that offensive at all, but sometimes something pops up that fits the [this might be offensive] label. Aside for the photos, there is a discussion area as well.

There are actually quite a few past and present TFP members over at TMBO.

Yes, few forums over the years. One shut down, the other pissed the hell out of me with their stick-up-the-ass mods, silly rules, and teeny bopper members so I quit .

I am a major Naruto geek. I find it is a waste of my chakra talking about nin jutsus to the uninitiated. I need to find another fan of Hokage expertise to nerd it up with. I like Bleach as well. :)

Anyway....

I divide my forum time between here and www.marchingorders.com . If I could take in all of the instructions they give me on the other forum to post over here, all at once, I could spend more time here at TFP, but...maybe as I get better at it.....

As for forums, i'm a member of a dead forum about an anime i like. the only members that occasionally check in are from the core group when the board was still in infancy.

Probably few if any have noticed that I have not posted much around here lately.

I have been at Google's social network site, Orkut. I wouldn't call it cheating exactly because I joined Orkut just prior to joining TFP. The friends I have made at Orkut have helped me through some tough times I have gone through recently. I have emerged from those times in fine shape and now I intend to spend more time back here.

Orkut is a wonderful place to meet up with friends online. To me it is also like a new version of the Old American West complete with raging battles between modern day cowboys and Indians and with tin-badge sherriffs chasing down outlaws. It is pretty much un-moderated just like the Old West was lawless. Actually North Americans are fairly rare on Orkut but the analogy still holds up in my mind.

Some of my friends and I created a little oasis in the dessert there. We started a forum of gentle souls called Storytellers § Poets and this will continue to be the primary place where I post my stories and prose. Of course I will still maintain my friendships at Orkut but I also want to improve my contributions here at TFP. My goal now is quality over quantity.

Now that I am in a better place I can really appreciate the calm maturity of TFP as contrasted by the juvenile chaos of Orkut.

I'm on several different forums, and social networks.. but the only places I usually visit anymore besides here, and MySpace is Darkforum.

I belong to a couple of other general forums, an Acura forum, nursing forum and a couple aquarium forums. I only post regularly at one of the general forums. The others are for info more than anything.

I used to post on one forum in my country, then on 4 at a time after convincing myself that 9/11 was an inside job and people need to know.

TFP is my mistress these days. I spend more time at the 30 Seconds to Mars forum, though I'm trying to give each forum equal attention.

TFP and Something Awful are the only two that crack down on idiocy to an extent that I can tolerate it.
