Falling asleep after sex is common. But sleeping during sex?

Medical researchers have discovered an intriguing condition, sexsomnia, in which people who are asleep proceed to initiate sexual activity with their bedmates.

The condition, detailed in the June edition of the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry, appears to be a mix of sleepwalking and adolescent wet dreams.

Amazingly, not all partners of such people are distressed or irritated by the novel experience of having an unconscious person make love to them.

Some almost prefer it.

The article, by three researchers from the universities of Toronto and Ottawa and Toronto Western Hospital, described sexsomnia as, if not a new condition, a "distinct variation" of sleepwalking.

The researchers discovered it by interviewing patients referred to a sleep clinic for normal sleep-related problems.

"Only subsequently did the issue of sexual behaviour during sleep emerge," wrote the researchers, although they noted prior cases of indecent exposure during sleep.

"We anticipate that the number of potential cases is large but sexual behaviour in sleep is not yet recognised by physicians as a behaviour of note or a problem."

There were 11 case studies, mostly male.

One married man, 35, had sexual dreams and "enacts these by having intercourse with his wife, who is convinced he is asleep . . . [he] is only aware of his behaviour from his wife's reports".

Two girlfriends of another 43-year-old man "independently confirmed that he frequently engages in sexual behaviour while asleep".

One describes him as a "different person" during these activities - apparently he is a more amorous and gentle lover and more orientated towards satisfying his partner."

By contrast, another man, 37, is "more aggressive and more amorous" while asleep, according to his wife. "He indulges in behaviours while asleep that he does not undertake when awake . . . there is no stopping him."

But when he once grabbed her neck, she had to slap him.

my gf woke up when i was fingering her in my sleep once...apparently i was sitting up and really goin at it.

She's grabbed my goods in her sleep, but she's never actually proceded to do anything.

i could see it happening.. i like sleep.. i like sex... I wouldn't be adverse to having them both at the same time :)

This happens to me regularly, but I wake up usually in the early or middle point. It's kinda weird and really nice.

I wake up, and my wife and I are in the middle of making love. She tells me I awoke her, and started things off, by I have no conciousness for the early stages.

She does'nt mind middle of the night suprises usually so it's all a good thing for us.

I've always though ot it as a form of sleepwalking, but not a problem.

Sleep fucking. Gotta love it.

Mango 06-26-2003 07:46 AM

I used to do that all the time. My wife finnaly figured out that I was sleeping and started telling me about it.

denim 06-26-2003 09:39 AM

Was it good?

Slims 06-27-2003 12:19 AM

I did that too, talk about ruining a girl's self-esteem.

I'v e had my wife maneuver my hands into a pleasureable position while she was asleep, but the instant I started doing anything she slapped my hand away.

She denies any knowledge of the incident. . .

And all this time I just thought it was a really good excuse. Heh...

livingitup101 06-27-2003 10:43 AM

on a couple of separate occasions i've woken up with my gf on top of me. i definitely wasn't complaining.

OzOz 06-28-2003 01:01 AM

Well, it looks like they'd get more than 11 case studies out of the TFP. That is such a weird but fun concept!

^Oni^ 06-28-2003 07:27 AM

Weird butt fun? I think that's a separate topic altogether. ;)

WhoaitsZ 06-28-2003 09:59 AM

hmm

orgasms have always awakened me instead of making me sleepy.

never heard of another guy with this condition before.

Conclamo Ludus 06-28-2003 04:29 PM

One of my roommates fell asleep during sex with his girlfriend on more than one occasion.

Vyk 06-28-2003 06:33 PM

I've had intercourse on several ocassion where I was asleep and woke up towards the end. I've also been told I had other forms of sex with the girl I was sleeping with after getting up in the morning. Kinda like sleep walking but more fun.

Though, having just recently started dating a girl who's a virgin waiting for marriage, I am hoping to avoid this behavior.

*crosses fingers*

I sometimes get in trouble for not finishing what I didn't know I started, but when I actually wake up enough to deliver, the missus doesn't mind at all.

alisa 06-29-2003 05:48 AM

hubby always wakes me up to have sex, sometimes i think he is still sleeping...:)

PHYcos 06-29-2003 10:32 PM
