Crazy sex education idea

This past week I went to my first birthing class, and sadly had to watch a video of a woman giving birth. Yes, I have to say me & my wife wow, that was scary and ick. Sorry I know it is natural and all that but still scared the shit out of us.

Now if we made kids watch that I think that would definitely help make sure kids have less sex, and use protection.

LoganSnake 05-06-2008 05:38 AM

I had to watch it in my Health class, Freshman year of high school.

Cynthetiq 05-06-2008 05:42 AM

I had to watch it in my health class, freshman year of college. (this was a catholic college.)

We even had to watch video on STDs, disgusting to see a woman with genital warts that looked like the elephant man.

Glory's Sun 05-06-2008 06:07 AM

thankfully, I never had to go to birthing class.. and I refused to watch my daughter being born.. of course I didn't have to worry about it since an emergency C-Section had to be done..now that was cool to watch.

as far as this being a crazy sex ed idea, I can see where you're going, but most kids will just have the same attitude of "it can't happen to me" regardless of what video they watch.

dlish 05-06-2008 06:34 AM

i watched one of those videos when i was 14. grossed me out so bad.. i didnt have sex till almost a decade later!

A woman giving birth was a feature of the girls' sex education video I watched in 4th grade. In 5th grade, the boys had to watch the girls' film and vice versa.

I think working in childcare does a better job of illustrating the consequences and challenges of having children; it also emphasizes the responsibility it takes to be a parent. And childcare has its share of bodily fluids involved, too.

Gotta agree with the Gucc on this one. This would quickly go the line of the "Blood On The Highway" and "Red Asphalt" films that we had to watch in Driver's Ed. Just one more thing to joke about, and probably about as effective.

For some sure, but for a lot I think this would definitely help make them think twice.

Birth is far more disgusting than seeing a severed head

Same, except the 4th graders watched a movie about how cheese was made and the 5th graders went and watched the boy AND girl ones one after another. I still remember the birth one.. fuck! I also remember wanting to know what the 5th graders were going to watch while we watched the movie about how American cheese was made.. all I remember of that one is lots of cows..

blahblah454 05-06-2008 08:07 AM

I watched a birthing video in health class (in Catholic school) in grade 7 I believe.

Willravel 05-06-2008 08:32 AM

OMG so hot.

BadNick 05-06-2008 09:51 AM

I think it's good to have kids watch such vids if they're well done and directed toward their understanding level ...but I highly doubt it would have ANY effect on kids' decisions to have sex, protected or not.

After going thru birthing classes, breathing excercises, LeMas, etc. together, I watched my first wife give "natural" childbirth to our daughter; it was a great experience, huge emotional rush but I also like to watch the "technical" side of these things, if possible even when they're being done on me. My second wife had to have C-sections for our two boys, that was also cool to watch but she was mostly sedated and not as able to participate in the emotional impact.
Being "old school", I went to Catholic parochial elementary school in Philadelphia, then Catholic "prep" boys' high school and then Villanova U, I don't recall these subjects ever being discussed in any of my classes ...other than the engineering project we had to evaluate stress analysis on a brassiere.

I don't think this is too crazy. I've heard this idea tossed around before amongst my friends, and we all agree that it'd probably do a pretty decent job. I say, go for it!

no vag should ever have to go through that.

ugh, horrifying

Willravel 05-06-2008 06:05 PM

Oh yeah, baby. Push.

lotsofmagnets 05-06-2008 06:15 PM

if only i could post the robot chicken sketch of a woman giving birth to about 20 kids, a football, a parking meter and a grizzly bear.

ironman 05-06-2008 06:29 PM

I't does not gross me out, I was in my son's birth and thought it was beautiful. To each its own I think. Now, I don't think it would work as sex deterrent, but as a natural birth deterrent, I see people asking for C sections in order to avoid what they saw.
I think 2 girls 1 cup would work better against sex.

n0nsensical 05-06-2008 06:48 PM

Is it really that disturbing?, thats how you came into the world. Yes Ive seen one (video).

guyy 05-06-2008 06:48 PM

"Man with a movie camera".

"A very private eros".

Great movies you guys can never watch.

I have to agree with ironman & nonsensical.

I don't think birth is "gross" or "horrifying". And yes, i've cut cords and poked at placentas and all that. I'm completely OK with birth, but i hate movie gore. The end product of the real thing is cute.

Maybe i shudda been an obstetrician or a midwife...

MSD 05-08-2008 07:02 AM

What was that Jeff Foxworthy line? It's close to, if not word for word, that you don't want to watch your child being born so you don't burn in the mental image of "your wife's cooter looking like a catcher's mitt full of baked lasagna."

The_Jazz 05-08-2008 07:11 AM

I saw both boys being born. I wouldn't say it was "gross" or "beautiful" or anything it between. It is what it is. There are only two ways any of us is born - either c-section or vaginal birth.

And if watching your child being born grosses you out, then get ready for a lot of masturbation and dealing with an only child. Me? Didn't really bother me.

You want a good birth control movie - shoot video of having to get up in the middle of the night to change a poopy diaper only to get peed on. And make it the 4th time you've been up that night. And give the kid cholic. And an inefficient eater so that it takes at least 20 minutes just to feed them, not counting burping and getting them back down.

The only way we're having another anytime soon is if there's a big mistake.

You forgot the part about that formerly hot woman, now still carrying an extra 20lbs from the pregnancy, stretchmarks lining her stomach, hair greasy, shirt stained from leaking breasts, a little smidge of puke on her shoulder, dark circles under her eyes and smelling vaguely of sour milk and poop.

telekinetic 05-08-2008 04:08 PM

This thread is why I'm glad the wife isn't on TFP...just what she needs with 2 months left... :D

You mean Britney Spears?

Seriously, she's a birth control ad all by herself.

Psycho Dad 05-08-2008 05:04 PM

So this concept would be to condition kids that childbirth is scary and or gross in hopes that they won't have intercourse themselves?

I'm in favor of teaching facts and equipping the children to make better decisions before they have children themselves.

I didn't come out that way. I came out alien style. :)

I don't have a problem with watching it. I've never seen one in real life, so I'm not sure about the smell. I would be worried about that more than what it looks like.

Psycho Dad 05-09-2008 02:44 PM

After seeing three of these, I can't recall any smell associated with it.

genuinegirly 05-09-2008 04:33 PM

I watched it in 7th grade biology. It was at a public school, just part of the district-required curricula. Miracle of Life or some such nonsense was the name of the film. Pretty messed up.
