"GM buys Specialized Bicycles" : Fessed up this morning: http://www.bikebiz.com/news/29459/GM...ican-ownership

"Carbon wrap kit for aluminum bicycles": http://www.cyclingnews.com/tech.php?...arbon_wrapit08

As a "steel is real" kinda guy that one really makes me laugh. The aluminum must keep the carbon from flexing and the carbon hides all the cracks in the aluminum.

Yes, both bike geeky. For the gmail users, gmail announced "On time, every time" with the ability to pre-date your emails, the screenshot shows someone using the "feature" to remember their grandma's birthday.

edit: ah, thread about the gmail feature: http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthread.php?t=133356

Super Pii Pii Bros

Amazing Virtual Pee Experience from Japan

As any good geek should know by now Japan has some of the wackiest and most unusual products anywhere. So when we were visiting Tokyo recently and saw lines of Japanese schoolgirls waiting to play an amazing new game for the Wii called Super Pii Pii Brothers we were only a little surprised. After all with games like WarioWare and Raving Rabbids the Wii is no stranger to crazy gameplay mechanics... but it was quite unusual to see the "strap-on" style accessory and peeing action that Pii Pii Brothers provides. Normally ThinkGeek doesn't carry video games, but we were so blown-away by Super Pii Pii Brothers that we immediately got our trusted Japanese importer on the phone and arranged to bring over a limited quantity of this amazing Wii game along with some cross regional boot discs to allow play on USA Wii consoles.

The play mechanics are simple. Prepare yourself by strapping on the included belt harness and jacking in your Wiimote. A series of toilets are presented on screen and the challenge is to tilt your body to control a never-ending stream of pee. Get as much pee in the toilets as you can while spilling as little on the floor as possible. Sounds easy eh? Well the toilets open and close whack-a-mole style and occasionally the stray cat or other cute critter pops up. Spray a cat for extra points. Get too much pee on the ground and your game is over. With realistic fluid dynamics for the pee and over 100 different bathrooms from bars and palaces to automatic Japanese style toilets you'll be entertained for hours. And wait until your friends see the multi-player mode with dueling pee streams...

According to the Japanese text on the box "Super Pii Pii Brothers promotes good bathroom skills and allows women to experience for the first time the pleasure of urinating while standing." What we say is that virtual peeing is damn fun!

A comic book forum I go to added the words Superman, Batman, and Spider-man to the list of censored words.

Last year they added the word "The" so every post would have ### in every other sentence.

hehe. Super Pii Pii brothers. Good find, Cyn.

Here's mine... heard about it on CNBC this morning:

Google, Virgin Launch Hoax Mars Settlement
by Cassimir Medford on 01 April 2008, 10:57

Google and Virgin Group in an April Fool's Day prank on Tuesday launched Virgle, a joint venture that touts open-source development to establish Earth's first human settlement on Mars.

The April Fool's Day announcement spoofed Google's supposed goal of world domination, unveiling details of Virgle's 100-year plan, which includes an IPO along with the first manned expedition to Mars in 2016.

Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page said they will share leadership of Virgle City, the first Martian municipality, with Sir Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group.

By making Virgle's Mars project open source, Google and Virgin will tap into Earth's global talent pool or "the Long Tail of human creativity" as they call it.

NASA spokeswoman Stephanie Schierholz thinks Virgle's Mars exploration timetable is very aggressive compared to NASA's.

"NASA is currently working on plans to return to the moon by 2020 and what we learn on the moon will prepare for a trip to Mars, but we have to learn a lot more than we currently know before we tackle something like that," she said.

The round trip to Mars could take a year and when one includes a minimum 18-month stay on Mars, the trip could last four years, Ms. Schierholz said.

A manned mission to Mars is a NASA goal, but that would occur no sooner than 2030.

And Virgle’s space travelers must figure out a way to produce food and other staples on Mars since there is no room to pack enough for a four-year trip.

Google’s extravagant hoax, which includes pages of explanation and a YouTube video featuring Messrs. Brin and Page discussing the project, is not the first April Fool's ruse for the search king.

The Mountain View, California-based firm's April Fool's stunts date back to 2000, when the company unveiled MentalPlex, a search technology that "reads" the user's mind to determine the query subject.

In 2005, Google unveiled the Google Gulp, a drink that could expand one's intelligence, and in 2007 Google introduced Gmail Paper, a free service that would convert email to print and send the letters via snail mail.

One of my favorite pranks was the San Serriffe hoax done sometime in the 70s. You might try Googling it.
...

My own prank today was the following email sent to Tpop:

Hello Tpop. I have not been feeling well for the past couple of weeks and went to see my doctor yesterday. She took some blood and will have some testing done. At the same time she suggested a pregnancy test to which I said that would be impossible because you've had a vasectomy. She asked that I humor her. It came back positive.

(Of course he called right away to reiterate that he loved me and that he had not put on deodorant this morning and he was sweating. I laughed and told him April Fool and reminded him that he had had a vasectomy 8 years ago.) What a schmucky schmoo.

World of warcraft has a few april fools jokes today. A new console game announcement and a new class. On their forums all posts has leetspeak randomly placed in everyone's posts.

The BBC's big one today was a news story that penguins can fly. Because I stayed up all night and was very tired, when I saw it on TV this morning it took me about 20 seconds to realize that it was fake.

Church 04-01-2008 08:28 PM

Not sure if that Zelda thing is actually fake. I did some investigating and I found this site as well.

So who knows? If it is a hoax, its quite an elaborate one!

ROBERTS TRADED!

OMG, it finally happened. I guess that's what a day of DeRosa and Theriot going 0-for 6 does for you.

A news conference has been called this afternoon at 2pm at Wrigley. I'll let you read the article (link below) for the juicy bits, but here are the highlights:

... It appears that MacPhail got his man after all, as the Cubs are parting with highly regarded outfielder Felix Pie. Other players in the deal are all names we've heard before: Ronny Cedeno, Sean Gallagher, Sean Marshall and Donny Veal.

Roberts heard the news from teammate Millar this morning. Reached for comment via Blackberry, he responded, "It's bittersweet. [Baltimore] is the organization that I came into baseball with, the only organization I've ever known. But Chicago is a great town and I'm looking forward to giving my best for a historic franchise."

"...I'm glad to have it finally done with because the rumors were getting old. I mean, who keeps a player for opening day and then trades them on April 1st?"

You can read the rest in the Chicago Sentinel.
This fucker had me swearing up and down and moaning in agony as a Cubs fan, until it hit me all of a sudden that today is April 1.

I. Am. Not. Smart.

Our office has all of these Motivators posters all along the walls. Overnight, somebody came in and replaced them all with Demotivator posters.

The funny part was how long it took our boss to realize what happened.

April fool's joke

thespian86 04-03-2008 12:18 AM

I called my Mother crying, saying someone had broken into my house, and stolen a bunch of stuff. I said the cops are still here and she asked what was gone. I said a list of things, including made up gizmo's that I said I had bought recently. She, for the first time ever, fell for it and I got to laugh at her with satisfaction until she hung up on me.

"Wired" magazine reported that the earth is running out of Helium, and that the major source of Helium on Earth is under the Texas Panhandle and it will be gone in 9 years.

Whoops, my mistake. Apparently this may not be an April Fool's Joke after all!
