Here in Portugal people spit on the ground a lot. I find it disgusting to do that, or see it done, especially somewhere public, where people have to walk. I think it's quite rude too. Tissues people - and I'm pretty sure you don't actually need to do it. I never have and I'm fine.

I hate it to the point that it's pretty much a dealbreaker for me, I could not be with a guy who did this.

I have a funny spitting story (or sad one, however you want to see it). I was standing on a platform waiting for a train a few years back, and I heard the most beautiful whistling I had ever heard. Seriously, it was so beautiful that I was trying to work out who was doing it. I love music and this was really special. And then...he made a sound. The most revolting sound. Hocking - really loudly. And then...he spat. I was... a little shocked. Don't laugh when I tell you it taught me a lesson of sorts :p

I try not to spit in public but sometimes it just has to be done.

I sometimes have trouble suspending the thought that this is one of the things that separates the peasants from the gentry.

Some people have hygiene and disease control in mind. Others just don't want any on them.

I know my biggest complaint is when someone does it upwind from me while walking along a busy sidewalk. As I make my attempts to step over the area and self-consciously wipe my face with my hand, my immediate thought is, "Fuck, you better not have gotten any on me!"

In the very least, people should use handkerchiefs, or spit somewhere well out of the way. It is for similar reasons that I not only refrain from coughing in people's faces but I also tend to cover my mouth. The same goes for sneezing.

C'mon now ... Aren't there any bodily functions that you'd prefer not to witness? Anything that makes you sick to your stomach?

You can call me uptight and anal if it legitimizes your actions. I think it's disgusting and selfish and it makes me nauseous. Plus, it would cause me to wonder about the spitter's hygiene habits.

oh coarse there are bodily actions that i would rather not witness in public, spitting just happens not to be one of them. I would much rather be rid the stuff from my mouth than swallow it, thats icky if you ask me.

why would you wonder about hygene if the person spits? i see it as that they would rather rid their body of the substance than just...swallow it.

as far as my actions go, i only spit when needed, and ive never hit anyone (excluding that time when i was 9 or so.)

I see it as a disrespect for others' rights to cleanliness and not feeling nauseated. It just makes me wonder if he's up to keeping other things clean. /shrug And if you need to get rid of it, what's the problem with carrying a tissue? Or a nice manly handkerchief? Considerateness goes a long way with a lot of women.

its just that we dont care. to tell you the truth if i was walking down the street, and seen a someone sitting a puddle of their own shit, masturbating like a madman, drooling down their chin with bile and vomit on their shirt, i wouldnt be phased one bit, and nor would one of my friends.

but we would sure get a great laugh out of it later over a cheap burger and fries.
