We're back!

Wooooooooooooooo! We're back!

Phew, I've missed the forum style. The blog was great in the interim, but a forum is a totally different world.

Did anyone do anything productive in the wait? I just ended up bored at work. :)

One thing that made me laugh, on the day of the crash:

PHP Code:

<div class="sidebarcontent">
  <
h2>Latest Posts</h2>
  <
ul id="latestposts">
  <
li><a href="#">There are none</a></li>

  <
li><a href="#">because</a></li>
  <
li><a href="#">the web server</a></li>
  <
li><a href="#">died last night</a></li>
  </
ul

:)

PonyPotato 02-27-2008 08:30 AM

I've been somewhat productive.. but my procrastination experienced new lows. I actually started watching TV again since I didn't have TFP to distract me.

Cynthetiq 02-27-2008 08:32 AM

The mandatory what did you do? thread

Welcome back everyone!

I figure it's going to come up, someone's going to ask it.

What did you do while TFP was the server was down?

I tried to get in chat as often as I could. I also tried to find something more general to look at for the blog. It was hard to write an entry and not think in "blog" or "journal" modes. For some reason the format stuck in my craw.

But it's very much nice to see the place back, intact, and not really TFP5.0, but definitely a bit above TFP4.0.

Mostly I got work done.

Herk 02-27-2008 08:37 AM

That code snippet is pretty funny. I'm so glad to be back. You never realize just how truly powerless over your addiction you are until the drug is in short supply.

Craven Morehead 02-27-2008 08:38 AM

Great job! Big thanks to all that were involved in bringing TFP back to life.

Shauk 02-27-2008 08:39 AM

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

oh hi.

ring 02-27-2008 08:45 AM

Oooo, white letterings on the peaceful green expanse again.

ratbastid 02-27-2008 08:49 AM

RIP catfish.

Long live anchovy!

I'm proud to have provided a temporary (if not quite resource-adequate) home for the TFP blog!

snowy 02-27-2008 08:51 AM

I read almost all of James Loewen's Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong and finished C.S. Forester's Mr. Midshipman Hornblower. I also had a pretty busy weekend--went to the farmers market, to the annual library book sale fundraiser, and a potluck. That helped too.

ring 02-27-2008 08:57 AM

Thank you ratbastid for the life-raft..
Kudos to Hal and his compatriots for their tireless dedication..

sheesh...I think I'm gonna cry..

Tully Mars 02-27-2008 09:00 AM

I went swimming and to the gym more. Maybe the more often TFP crashes the longer I'll live?

Halx 02-27-2008 09:02 AM

Everyone needs to thank Sty, who is sort of a silent Administrator here. He spent his entire day setting up the server and deserves a LOT of love.

snowy 02-27-2008 09:04 AM

Much thanks to the awesome Sty!

canuckguy 02-27-2008 09:28 AM

Thanks Sty and Hal!!!!!

woo-hoo!

its alive! alive!!!!!

ring 02-27-2008 09:29 AM

Okay..

Thanks Sty person...a whole lotta..

savmesom11 02-27-2008 09:29 AM

Nothing and hated every minute of it

Felt extremely lonely and lost....I agree with the addiction statement above, I didn't expect to feel a sense of loss the way I did. I didn't do squat in replace of the forum which is probably why I have been so crabby these last few days. Glad to be back to the ol' self!!!

I thank everyone involved with helping get the site back up and running, today you are my hero(s)!

connyosis 02-27-2008 09:40 AM

Ahh, nice to have the old forum back. Good job everyone involved in getting it back up.

Cynthetiq 02-27-2008 09:44 AM

thanks to sty, halx, ratbastid, and all the other community members that waited patiently and excitedly for the server replacement

glad it's back and intact.

it's nice to see my mailbox slowly filling with alerts of posts from TFP..

cj22009 02-27-2008 09:53 AM

I am glad to see everyone back great works guys !!!!

Halx 02-27-2008 10:00 AM

Annnnd now that I have a little free time:

Thank you to Cynthetiq and Ratbastid for providing temporary hosting for the TFP while we worked this out.

Thank you to cj22009 for donating the new server!

Thank you to EVERYONE who donated! Your contributions made it easy for us to bring this all together.

You all rock!

jewels 02-27-2008 10:03 AM

Yaaaaaaaaaayy! Welcome back everybody :D It's good to be home.

Redlemon 02-27-2008 10:18 AM

Wow, it's really ALL back. It even kept the "new content since last visit" status from before the crash. Nice job to everyone.

snowy 02-27-2008 10:25 AM

I gotta say...I am super-glad the data is intact. I remember the crashes when I first joined TFP, and I would have been crushed to lose my journal. I suppose I should consider backing it up somewhere else, but that seems difficult at best. Hrm.

SSJTWIZTA 02-27-2008 10:36 AM

:D im so fucking happy right now.

the blog was okay and all, but this place just feels like home.

green and white, avatars and quotes, titties and nonsence.

allaboutmusic 02-27-2008 10:37 AM

Yay, we're back! Glad to finally have donated, should have done so sooner.

SecretMethod70 02-27-2008 10:43 AM

Yes, thanks sty, cynthetiq, ratbastid, cj22009, halx, and everyone else!

Glad to see the site back up and running :)

And, snowy, it may not be quite what you're looking for, but while you're in your journal, you can go to journal tools (top right), and select to download your journal in TXT or XML format :)

blahblah454 02-27-2008 10:49 AM

I studied my ass off, I am in the middle of midterm week.
I also had all my bank info stolen and used in another city. So I have been dealing with that.

All in all a pretty productive short while.

shoegirl 02-27-2008 10:57 AM

I was sick! I really missed TFP while I was laying on my couch. Welcome back!! :)

cj2112 02-27-2008 11:29 AM

I missed this place horribly, I was literally sick to my stomach when I thought it was gone for good.

Ditto on all those thanks. We have some amazing administrators and members in our family :hearts:

And thank you, SM. I had never even noticed those journal tools. Duh.

Baraka_Guru 02-27-2008 12:24 PM

This was one of those you-don't-realize-just-how-much-you-value-something-until-it's-gone kind of moments.

Thanks to everyone who pitched in during this difficult time, and welcome back everyone!

That's EXACTLY what I'm looking for. Thanks for the heads up, Smeth.

toxic515 02-27-2008 01:58 PM

Welcome back, and thanks to Sty , Cyn, Hal, CJ and Ratbastid and anyone else who helped donated, etc. Glad to donate again to the cause, it's too easy to take the site for granted and forget that someone's got their personal time and cash in this thing! Glad to see it, us, etc. all back up and running. I for one welcome our new anchovy overlord.... or something.. :-D

Ace_O_Spades 02-27-2008 03:13 PM

Back! Huzzah!!

I killed Bethany, my old girlfriend, with a nail gun, and some man uh some old faggot with a dog last week. I killed another girl with a chainsaw, I had to, she almost got away and uh someone else there I can't remember maybe a model, but she's dead too. And Paul Allen. I killed Paul Allen with an axe in the face, his body is dissolving in a bathtub in Hell's Kitchen. I don't want to leave anything out here. I guess I've killed maybe 20 people, maybe 40. I have tapes of a lot of it, uh some of the girls have seen the tapes. I even, um... I ate some of their brains, and I tried to cook a little. Tonight I, uh, I just had to kill a LOT of people. And I'm not sure I'm gonna get away with it this time. I guess I'll uh, I mean, ah, I guess I'm a pretty uh, I mean I guess I'm a pretty sick guy.

There are no more barriers to cross. All I have in common with the uncontrollable and the insane, the vicious and the evil, all the mayhem I have caused and my utter indifference toward it I have now surpassed. My pain is constant and sharp and I do not hope for a better world for anyone, in fact I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to escape, but even after admitting this there is no catharsis, my punishment continues to elude me, and I gain no deeper knowledge of myself. No new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing.

uncle phil 02-27-2008 03:48 PM

"law and order" needs a new plot...

hotzot 02-27-2008 04:08 PM

I won't lie and say that I wasn't a little upset at maybe losing TFP, but I was!!! Good to have you folks back.

Kaimi 02-27-2008 04:31 PM

Thanks to all of you who worked so hard and donated to bring back the forums. And those who keep it running every day.

Now, I swear that if it were possible I would inject TFP straight to the vein. I am definitely addicted.

Dick 02-27-2008 04:43 PM

HURRAY!

Grasshopper Green 02-27-2008 05:14 PM

We got a new computer over the weekend and have been internet-less until today...so I really didn't have the opportunity to "miss" anything.

DonnieBoy 02-27-2008 05:23 PM

Yippee good job guys...

noodle 02-27-2008 05:25 PM

i was bored, that's what i was.

thankyouthankyouthankyou

i was bored out of my mind. sooooo happy TFP is back.

777 02-27-2008 07:09 PM

Lately, I've been reading a ton of comics with TFP down. Now I'm mostly caught up with all that happened in Marvel's Civil War, and I'll recommend Marvel Zombies to any fan of comics or zombie films.

Merlocke 02-27-2008 09:02 PM

shock and dismay when it went down
surprised and ecstatic that it is back :) Yay TFP

pig 02-27-2008 09:20 PM

Thanks to all who put in the time and effort to get this place back up...I didn't miss it that much, but I'm too busy right now to be regularly around...it did kill some of my work breaks...or rather wasn't there to fill my aimless void. I am glad we're back up and going...

To all that thankless wonders...hat's off...

PayUp 02-27-2008 10:05 PM

Thank you and fantastic work to everyone involved. Sure is a lot of heart here at TFP.

Zooksport2 02-27-2008 10:18 PM

This all so comforting green layout has returned.

Thanks to all that had to work to fix it.

cheers

moot1337 02-27-2008 10:58 PM

Will: I'll make sure never to get a more classy business card than you, k?

Also, hallo everyone! I missed y'all too!

Starkizzer 02-27-2008 10:59 PM

I'm so glad we have such hard working and devoted people. Every time I saw the white screen I felt sad and useless that I couldn't do anything!

However, I actually was able to get some studying done for biochem, woohooo!

healer 02-28-2008 02:55 AM

First off, a big, hearty thanks to all the TFP staff who were able to get the TFP Green back up so fast. It really speaks to the quality of individuals we have in this community.

I was sad as hell when it went down. And checked back a few times each day during the downtime just in case things went faster than planned. :)

It's good to be back. I missed you guys.

abaya 02-28-2008 03:09 AM

Sigh, I was being SO productive with my PhD research, not to mention going to the gym and sleeping earlier...

But I'm still glad to have y'all back. :)

fatboss 02-28-2008 05:05 AM

#Guess who's back.............back again............tilted's back............tell a friend#

I think someone summed it up earlier, you don't know just how you miss something until it's actually gone!

Everyone that helped restore peace and tranquility - YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!!

 XXXXX

roachboy 02-28-2008 05:47 AM

thanks to the collective that got tfp back up and running...
someday i'll be able to help at a level beyond cheerleading.

i did what i normally do, whatever that is, except without the microbreaks that tfp enables. maybe i was more productive, maybe not.
i did find myself wanting to write more things with words and not words-and-images, so maybe that's good. maybe it's not. one never knows, do one?

one thing that started happening while the site was down that i liked, however, was that stories that were posted to the blog were sometimes greeted with other stories. so they started mutating into collective stories instead of just being one story with a series of affirmations or silences attached. this is an interesting potential and maybe we should think about how to take that further--something like the communi=blog (which i also like and which i hope more comrades play with) but more complex....

alicat 02-28-2008 10:28 AM

Soooo happy TFP is back and intact!:D I started back to work this week so it really helped keep my mind off of the waiting game (well...mostly).

Thanks to all who worked tirelessly to bring our intraweb home back.

I was pretty upset when I saw there was a blog and no TFP...I thought, what we're a blog now? Nooooo blogs suck. It was ok for a few days though.

I've been pretty busy with work so I haven't had the time to miss TFP too much. Plus you put it all back up so fast I only had to blink and we were back here!

Thank you Hal, ratbastid, cj22009, Sty, and everyone who put us back on track.

I think if TFP were gone I'd definitely feel very sad...this is a very cool place and you guys are awesome. I definitely wish I had more time to get more involved and get to know people a little more closely though. Maybe it's something I should work on right?

TFP is really amazing, I am always in awe of how long it has lasted and how committed everyone is to this community. It's truly amazing in this weird world we live in. Cheers everybody!

I think you'd prefer the peanut butter soup with smoked duck and mashed squash. New York Matinee called it "a playful but mysterious little dish."
You'll love it. And then the red snapper with violets and pine nuts.
I think that'll follow nicely.

Oh, Will, Will, Will... that shirt? Not doing it. C'mon, brother... you've to wear clothes in proportion to your physique. There are definite do's and don'ts, good buddy, of wearing a bold striped shirt. A bold stripe shirt calls for solid colored or discreetly patterned suits and ties.

Wished alot that I had contact info to a few people.

Hoped alot that the new server would be up and running soon.
