the end of the Rat Pack
Joey Bishop died yesterday I just read.
RIP BREAKING NEWS Updated: 1:16 p.m. ET Oct. 18, 2007 LOS ANGELES - Joey Bishop, the stone-faced comedian who found success in nightclubs, television and movies but became most famous as a member of Frank Sinatra’s Rat Pack, has died at 89. He was the group’s last surviving member. Peter Lawford died in 1984, Sammy Davis Jr. in 1990, Dean Martin in 1995, and Sinatra in 1998. Bishop died Wednesday night of multiple causes at his home in Newport Beach, publicist and longtime friend Warren Cowan said Thursday. ... |
They really were an amazing group and I still think that without any member, including Bishop, the whole thing wouldn't have worked.

Time marches on. The last of the rat packers. A picture of when Vegas was still Vegas.

I'm gonna watch the 'original' Ocean's Eleven in his honor...
Thanks for the laughs... |
Can you imagine what it was like when the Rat Pack was together? Not on stage but after that? I can only shake my head and smile at the thought. I'll bet there are stories that will never be told. But should. :D

Ironic that the place the Rat Pack called their "East Coast Home" (The Atlantic City Sands) was imploded yesterday to make way for a new mega-casino.

Sad stuff. It's truly the end of an era.
Not only are the Rat Pack gone, but there aren't many entertainers of that ilk still around. Makes me really appreciate the Tony Bennett show I saw last month. |
i didn't know much about them considering they're kind of before my time
