hey ya'll!

i did a spur of the moment thing with another friend and booked a plane ticket to New York For December.

ill be in NY 13th-21st December.

if any of you guys would like to catch up at some point or go for a drink, let me know. ill be doing all the touristy stuff the first day or so.

if you have any suggestions on things to do in NY, then let me know! im open for suggestions.

im also looking for a hotel now. ive only got my tickets booked so far. what areas should i be looking at staying?

New York at the holidays is a really pretty time to be in NY - the store windows are decorated, the tree is up at rockefeller center, and people are just a bit nicer :)

there's a thread or two bouncing around on touristy things to do -Im just too lazy to search for it :) but it really dependson what you like

If you're an art sort of guy, MOMA, the Guggenheim, are worth seeing, there's a ton of galleries in the Village and Soho where are different... THe Museum of Natural History is very cool...I love the dinosaurs and the blue whale...



Depending on what you want to spend per night - you're going in prime time - so it won't be cheap... check places like www.hotels.com or some of the other discounters - or even thru where you've booked your flight, sometimes there are package deals.

If you're a littlemore adventurous and trying to be thrifty, New Jersey (a quick train ride away) or Brooklyn/Queens might be an option for hotels as well

Damn, I wish we could be there to meet you, dlishs. There are plenty of fine TFP'ers in NYC, though, so I'm sure you'll have no shortage of cool people to hang out with. Any chance that your ticket has a stopover in Iceland??? :)

abaya - wish there was a stop in iceland! unfortunately my itinery is dubai-ukraine-new york and vice versa on the way back. but im sure ukraine's as cold as iceland surely! would have loved to meet u and ktsp..dammit!

maleficient - thanks heaps. i just want to explore as much as i can in the week that i have. everything from landmarks to museums is on my list.

as for a hotel i booked through expedia. im on 94th street wherever that is. nothing too crash hot, but i wont be there most of thetime!

Ukraine!!! wtf. Iceland is so much cooler (and probably colder). We're just gonna have to swing by Dubai... or, any chance you'll be in Leb this Christmas?

hmm..maybe just before for the Eid long weekend. i can go there anytime for 2 or 3 days (thursday fridays and saturdays) as long as im back at work on sunday morning for work. our weekends here are weird, but its friday saturday. i can usually get an afternoon off on thursday and shhoot off for the weekend.

are u going to be in leb for xmas? if so how long u gonna be there for?
i got it wrong, im only in NYC till 19th, so im back on the 20th in dubai. if you give me enough notice, i can probably be there.

i am suppose to be in lebanon tomorrow for a long weekend (end of ramadan) but i just cant find a single ticket!

as for ukraine..dont ask me! wasnt my preference, but it was the cheapest ticket i can get for that time of year! i have n idea what ill be doing for a half day stopover in ukraine...catchng up on slep most likely lol!

Where in Ukraine are you staying? Kiev? I can ask my dad for some nifty things to do while you're there, he goes every couple years. One thing, Ukranian women are beautiful. Aids is a big problem over there. Make sure everyone in your party acts accordingly.

yeah ill be in kiev. havent got the slightest as to what is there..or what its like..other than that its cold and that the legendary pole vault champion sergei bubka came from ukraine.

Aw, Kiev. If you went to Odessa, I'd give you some very cool places to visit.

I went to NYC this past May. We stayed at the EconoLodge on the 47th and 8th, I believe. One block away from Times Square. I highly recommend watching at least one Broadway show. I saw Chorus Line and...forgot the other one. It's about a guy's birthday and all his friends come over.

I've been in NYC twice and I personally liked Times Square area, just walking around, oogling at the wide-ass streets (Chicago wishes its streets were that wide), Pier 17, The MET, and some other places we were dragged to that I don't remember.

He goes over to visit family :) I dont think the Ukraine is THAT cold...I mean compared to Australia mebbe but its not like you're going to Siberia. It's the bread basket of Europe!

I'll ask my dad for some suggestions on how to kill a day, the easy answer is drinking. Mmmmmm...Vodka

I may find myself in NYC when you're there. It remains to be seen how much I can manipulate my schedule between now and then, though.

jazz.. abubka was only the greatest pole vaulter of all time! and of that era, was probaly the only athlete not to be acused of drug use. even carl lewis got busted. so i have the utmost repect for him!
