2007 VMAs

Britney Spears...

- Looked like a 35 year old stripper at the end of a long night
- Didn't even attempt to lip synch
- Didn't even attempt to dance
- Was awful and painful to watch
- Better not be allowed on the Ghostbar deck

Sarah Silverman...
- Shouldn't mess with anyone's kids. That IS off limits.

Anyone else struck by anything they saw?

Cynthetiq 09-09-2007 06:40 PM

horrible production. One of the worst.

This is the first year that they didn't have any of the event and technical people that have been there for years and it shows.

SecretMethod70 09-09-2007 07:56 PM

Onodrim and I took advantage of TiVo to fast forward to the interesting parts. There weren't many.

Britney Spears was horrendous. I actually have no complaints about Sarah Silverman - in fact, she was the best part of the whole night. We were disappointed that TiVo said Lily Allen was going to perform yet she didn't. Rihanna is ridiculously cute, but I don't think her music is too special. I think that pretty much sums up our thoughts on the show.

And you would be the one that would know...

Sorry you channel has gone down hill... Since 1981.

Menoman 09-09-2007 10:47 PM

didnt see it, but sarah silverman is fucking hilarious in anything I've ever seen, so I'll have to check it out I guess.

When she was slamming celebs are the last awards show I was almost dying, especially the paris hilton slams.

SecretMethod70 09-09-2007 11:29 PM

Menoman: she only came on briefly at the beginning, right after Britney Spears' "comeback" performance. Like I said though, best part of the whole thing. I particularly enjoyed watching her say how there wouldn't be any Paris jokes (which prompted the camera to show Paris Hilton smiling and nodding approvingly) and then she proceeded to...take a jab at Paris Hilton :)

Menoman 09-10-2007 12:00 AM

excellent lol that means i dont have to watch all the garbage to see the funny!

Wow. Just... wow.

Is she drunk??

edit: I am referring to both Britney and Sara. Seriously, WTF?

SecretMethod70 09-10-2007 01:26 AM

I dunno about drunk, but Britney Spears definitely seemed out of it.

As for Sara Silverman, I can't say I thought she acted any different from her usual self. She bombed with the audience, but who there wants to be seen openly laughing at some of those jokes? Reminds me of the time Stephen Colbert was at the White House press dinner. No on there laughed either, but it's not because it wasn't funny.

Lady Sage 09-10-2007 04:57 AM

Yikes, at first she seemed off step and off balance but her dance moves got a little better as the number moved on. What happened to her snap? She used to snap into whatever move and position, now she just kind of wiggles like jello. Her facial expression- she looked scared as hell.

Kudos to her for getting her body back after the kids though.

SecretMethod70 09-10-2007 11:18 AM

I'm normally not into celebrity, but Britney Spears is such a trainreck I can't help but find it entertaining, and thus I'm posting here...but I feel dirty that I keep coming back to this thread :p

Anyway, I'd hardly say she got her body back. By average standards, she's obviously not in terrible shape. But by Hollywood, old Britney Spears standards, she's about 30 pounds overweight. Certainly not in the kind of shape necessary to wear clothes like that on national television.

*Nikki* 09-10-2007 11:59 AM

I much agree with SM on this one.

Cynthetiq 09-10-2007 12:01 PM

The actual show really was horrible even though I enjoyed Silverman's sarcasm as always. I also enjoyed Britney Spears shakin that thick ass all over the place, her performance was God awful but no matter how bad she performed or how many losers she bangs, Im really diggin the nice thick body on that broad.

Emotion 09-10-2007 07:37 PM

Brittney Spears should be finished.

Crack 09-11-2007 08:28 AM

I ran over a squirrel today driving into work. I looked back in my rear view mirror and saw the poor thing lying there in the road twitching, and I felt really bad for it.

I feel the same way about Brittney Spears.

I also kept right on driving...

Mister Coaster 09-11-2007 12:06 PM

***Brittany rant ahead***

Good Christ in Heaven, I hope and pray that the frikkin world would please lose their collective obsession with Brittany fuckkin Spears. She was AT BEST a figurehead that was created by the hype machine. Yes, she used to be hot. Yeah, 'her songs' were catchy. Yeah, she used to be interesting, but all that is gone. She has been outed LONG ago for being a no-talent, trailer-trash ditz that has deep emotional issues.

Every goddamned day on every goddamned station you hear about what goddamned Brittany Spears has done in the past 24 hours since the last goddamned Brittany Spears update 23.9 hours ago. Brittany yells at a store clerk, Brittany falls down, Brittany eats a sammich, K-Fed sues Brittany... WHO THE HELL CARES ANYMORE??? Yet every day, more BS about BS gets crammed down my gullet.

When will the media STFU about this has-been? If they stop reporting every second of her now meaningless life, would the world lose interest? I guess we'll never know, as for now I guess we are stuck with this bitch on TV and radio 24-7.

Ditto on Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan...

Sorry, back to your regularly scheduled topic.

StellaLuna 09-11-2007 02:02 PM

I hate the VMA's. They don't really play V's on that station anymore, so they shouldn't get to hand out the MA's. Give that to Fuse or something.

And not to drive Mister Coaster crazier... but I want to buy Britney some underwear. She can do what she likes (yell at a store clerk while eating a sammich, for example) but babygirl needs some panties.

surferlove007 09-11-2007 02:27 PM

I don't think it was so bad...lets see some of you people get up on stage and dance after having kids. She was a bit slower than normal but oh well. I think it fine.

TotalMILF 09-11-2007 04:34 PM

I think the point people are trying to make is that Britney shouldn't be up and dancing after having her kids--at least not until she gets her shit together, stops partying and abusing god-knows-what substances, and maybe gives her kids the attention they deserve.

I really don't think anybody is going to take her seriously again. I mean, look at her VMA "comeback" performance--it was pathetic. She's completely lost any spark she used to have. She really is a has-been, and it's nobody's fault but her own.

I hope next year's VMA's are better, hehe.

Uhm...? That's fucked up. :grumpy:

Lasereth 09-11-2007 05:55 PM

I'd like to come in here and say that Sara Silverman is completely unfunny and really annoying. Yes, I "get" her jokes and "get" her sarcasm. But instead of it being funny, she comes off as trying WAY too hard to get a reaction from people and it fails everytime. The audience rarely enjoys her and her jokes never yield a response. It's like she's talking to herself.

filtherton 09-11-2007 08:02 PM

I'd like to come in here and say Lasereth is wrong about sarah silverman.

Cynthetiq 09-11-2007 08:08 PM

yeah she's just not funny to him, nor Skogafoss.

JumpinJesus 09-11-2007 08:12 PM

Mtv knew damn well she'd suck. They brought her on for the train wreck factor and it apparently worked.

By the way, the youtube video is down. I'd like to see it, though. I like train wrecks.

it's britney bitch...

of course the video embed doesn't work because they want you to go to mtv.com for that impression advertising dollar.

A shame, then, that MTV already had its thunder stolen by New York radio station Z100, which debuted Spears’ new song, “Gimme More,” last week. And that fact is telling in itself. When was the last time radio scooped anyone on new music? Spears herself is a relic from a time when pop stars ruled the airwaves and selling a million copies of an album was taken for granted. By tapping her to open the show, the VMAs are dwelling on that period rather than looking forward.
I wonder what the odds are on her as the darkhorse in the deadpool.

JumpinJesus 09-11-2007 08:35 PM

Thanks, cynthetiq.

If I didn't know better, I'd say she just got out of the hospital, was dizzy, had never before worn heels, and just learned that song yesterday.

Gays to Britney: "Gimme More"
Leave the antibiotics at home, because Britney's latest burning sensation is ... her new song!

At several gay clubs in West Hollywood this weekend, patrons cheered when "Gimme More" blasted through the room. Homosexuals loves me, y'all! Sources inside WeHo hotspots Fubar, Here Lounge, and Eleven tell TMZ that on top of the overwhelmingly enthusiastic crowd reaction, the dance track is currently one of their most requested songs. At least there's some loyal men in her life!

If tonight's VMA performance turns out to be the final chipped nail in Britney's career coffin, she can always play the Gay Pride circuit alongside Toni Basil, Katrina and the Waves, and Tiffany! Ding dang!

SecretMethod70 09-12-2007 04:25 AM

That video scares me.

SCARES me.

I hear ya, LPM. Not that I'm a fan of Britney in any sense of the word, nor am I even a fan of her outfit in particular, but I don't have a problem with celebrities like her looking "normal" (at least in terms of body shape/weight) in the public eye. Young American girls need to see more of that.

SecretMethod70 09-12-2007 05:09 AM

No doubt about that, but it's important to be realistic as well. This was supposed to be her mega-awesome-super-fantastic comeback performance. You gotta play by Hollywood's rules in that case. I'm all for promoting realistic expectations among girls regarding their bodies, but if someone's trying to make a comeback like Britney Spears was, she's not exactly in the position to be making that kind of social statement (and, honestly, I'd be much more willing to forgive it if that's what she had intended, but really as far as I can tell she's just delusional regarding her diminished sex appeal as well as many many other things - she needs some serious help).

And, let's be frank here, while she's not in terrible shape - and I said so in the post LPM was responding to - she's also not exactly fit. I'm all for responsible messages in the media, and there should be more "average" bodies seen on television. People should understand that they are not alone in being out of shape (as most Americans are), but that doesn't equate to acting like it's reasonable wear an outfit that barely fits and shows every roll and stretch mark on national tv for what is supposed to be a comeback performance. There are other clothing options that are still sexy but more appropriate for her current body - and MTV apparently tried to get her to wear one of those, a corset - but that's not what she chose. She was trying to recapture her past sex appeal and glamour, and for that she is, as I said, about 30 pounds overweight (maybe 20, I'm bad at guessing weights). If she gets the rest of her shit together and wants to use her star power (assuming getting her shit together helps regain it) to promote more acceptance in the entertainment industry for varying weights and body types, then I'll get right in line to support her for that. For this comeback attempt, though, it was a terrible decision.

Very true. I suppose no one knows what she was intending or thinking... but you're right about that corset thing. As I said, I thought the outfit was a very poor choice, which perhaps reveals more about her state of mind than anything else (since she wasn't forced in any way to wear that). I noticed that much more than her body, I suppose.

actually if you paid attention a good number of the girls that were on the show were not svelte skinny little things like you normally see. I was quite surprised actually about that fact and even commented on it to Skogafoss.

Sultana 09-12-2007 06:18 AM

Woah. She's so lethargic in that performance, it's like she was sick or something. She hardly danced at all, just stepped through the choreo.

At least her back up dancers looked good. God, what a cool gig that would be (general back up dancers, not Brit back ups).

flat5 09-12-2007 08:57 AM

"one that won't get copyright violation removed"

Only plays in the USA, not Europe.

I don't really care.

varrybarry 09-12-2007 09:52 AM

She is horrible... it's a shame to see how much she's gone down hill. Hopefully she just stops trying to seriously entertain people.

I agree.
I think its good she's atleast trying to get back into entertaining.
I believe people are far too critical of her weight...and besides we're not there with her seeing what shes doing substance wise or how she treats her kids...therefore I think there should be a little more compassion on her side.
Also I think she looks fine, she's freaking healthy.
So what she's not a toothpick like other celebrities, but she didn't look bad.
Jeez.

my two cents...
