Halx 08-29-2007 02:48 PM

Yes.. there are supposed to be more. Anyone else having issues?

amonkie 08-29-2007 03:07 PM

I'm not having a problem being able to view the whole list, but I am not the best to go by.

I see the same as Shani.

I've found the problem. Will have it fixed soon.

ShaniFaye 08-29-2007 05:06 PM

I've got them all now

Psycho Dad 08-29-2007 05:26 PM

I can't get it to exclude the EZ posts. Is it something I'm not doing right or are there still kinks in it?

ShaniFaye 08-29-2007 05:53 PM

Same here

Willravel 08-29-2007 06:11 PM

Ditto.

shoegirl 08-29-2007 06:21 PM

Same here!

noodle 08-29-2007 06:33 PM

MexicanOnABike 08-29-2007 08:23 PM

you're so awsome Halx or anyone who helped on the code!!! i've been requesting this for a loooong time now!!

Dilbert1234567 08-29-2007 09:34 PM

yeah, EZ is still there for me... i selected them but nothing goes away.

Redlemon 08-30-2007 06:51 AM

(adding a post so that I'll notice when somebody says this is fixed)

ShaniFaye 08-30-2007 07:03 AM

I also have gaming picked and Im getting those new posts too

ubertuber 08-30-2007 07:04 AM

This is on the radar, but so are a couple of other things. We haven't forgotten about it!

Dilbert1234567 08-30-2007 07:12 AM

could we air on the side of caution and disable the search for EZ and utilities until we get the sorting fixed?

ShaniFaye 08-30-2007 07:31 AM

Doesnt look its picking any of the ones I picked....its showing motors too

Halx 08-30-2007 07:33 AM

Choose the ones you want to EXCLUDE

aberkok 08-30-2007 07:48 AM

What do you actually have to do to the list? Double-click...highlight then hit "save changes"? I don't know what to do.

mixedmedia 08-30-2007 07:51 AM

Maybe I'm not understanding, but I have selected the forums I don't want to see and they are still showing up in New Posts searches.

Halx 08-30-2007 08:13 AM

Well hey.. if this doesn't work, I'll put it back the way it was tonight

Bummer

ShaniFaye 08-30-2007 08:17 AM

thats what I did, I chose all of EZ (the category title and all the forums in it) Weapons, Motors and Gaming....and when I go in and look all of those are highlited, but Im still seeing them

mixedmedia 08-30-2007 09:15 AM

eh, I don't mind it the way it is...I don't mind keeping up with the Titty Board

Willravel 08-30-2007 09:30 AM

Normally it wouldn't bother me too much either, but I have to look over my shoulder at work when I search for new posts.

mixedmedia 08-30-2007 09:44 AM

that's true...

abaya 08-30-2007 09:44 AM

Not working for me, either..........

Sultana 08-30-2007 12:18 PM

Me neither. And my concern is the same as willravel's.

RickB 08-30-2007 02:56 PM

Ditto Sultana and willravel.

ngdawg 08-30-2007 03:57 PM

There's a New Posts option???:oogle:

hambone 08-30-2007 04:00 PM

hey is it fixed?! Or has no one been looking at the porn lately? :)

MexicanOnABike 08-30-2007 04:11 PM

Oh come on!!! i want this feature to work for once!! it would be great to keep in touch with the forums you enjoy. If you remove it, it's not the end of the world but it would be so fucking awesome if this feature actually worked! :D

I would hide the EZ at work and unhide at home. but the ones I took off for now were politics and sports. just because it's all american stuff.

Thats just it, many women are turned off by hard core porn. We cant afford to lose more female members. I shudder at the thought of a board full of hard legs only!

Sorry, but I don't really think that statement is true.
Women like porn.

Maybe not all, but here at least, most do.

abaya 09-03-2007 01:19 AM

Hey Dave, I didn't say that I didn't like porn. In fact, hard-core porn is one of my favorites to watch, and I'm very glad that it exists on TFP.

I just don't like the porn showing up on my Search requests, because it's just plain annoying to see the rather stupid titles "nice tits and ass" "cornhole getting banged" or whatever.

If I want to look at porn, I know where to find it... but most of the time, when I come to TFP, I just want to hang out and read the regular posts and find something to respond to. I'm hoping that the Search board will go back to the way it was, or that the filter function will be fixed soon.

Jove 09-03-2007 05:44 AM

I don't think this is complicated (after searching through the usercp functions for a minute), but maybe Halx needs to be a tutorial on how to filter out threads?

*checks new posts * Well, it doesn't work just yet. *looks around*

SecretMethod70 09-03-2007 07:27 AM

No, Halx known how to exclude some forums from ALL new posts searches, but he's hoping to give everyone the option to *choose* which forums they do and don't see.

Anyway, it's a holiday weekend, give it some time.

JumpinJesus 09-03-2007 08:06 AM

Honestly, we're complaining about the presence of porn or porn searches on an adult site?

Remember, this is an adult site. If you're cruising adult sites at work, what do you expect to find? Instead of complaining about content on an adult site, maybe you should refrain from viewing adult sites while at work.

ShaniFaye 09-03-2007 08:13 AM

oh great advice there, thanks for that (yes Im being extremely sarcastic there)

we've had years of those not showing up now all of the sudden those of us that could care less that there is porn on here are inundated with it....I dont think " complaining" is unthinkable in this situation.

Hal set it up so that each user can customize the new posts to fit what they want. Some people want the porn. Some don't want the discussion. Right now, Hal is working on fixing it, but you need to be patient.

ShaniFaye 09-03-2007 08:27 AM

I was being patient, I just dont appreciate jumpinjesus remark one bit. Some of us are allowed to surf at work as long as we stay away from naked people. For 4 years (for me) up until last week that wasnt an issue here and to be told that we should just "stay away" is bullshit.

Psycho Dad 09-03-2007 08:40 AM

As a useless side note, last time I refreshed about 20% of the new threads were from EZ (your mileage may vary). That's pretty telling IMHO what an impact pr0n may have on tfp as far as bandwidth and such.

Right now there is another post from halx about getting out of the EZ and using some of the other areas. I think this explains why he has to make those posts.

I'm 'cruising' a site that is about current events, politics, philosophy, and entertainment. I'm not here for pornography, especially when I'm at work. I post in TFP while I'm on the phone, typing up reports, or whatever I'm doing at work. I love using TFP at work in that it keeps me sharp yet relaxed.

TFP isn't about pornography. It's about discussion, debate, and evolution of self.

Frosstbyte 09-03-2007 10:22 AM

This is a total threadjack, but am I the only person who browses this site in its entirety and leaves all the forums open and just clicks his way to threads/subforums that interest him? I guess so.

Nope, that's what I do too. There is an option not to have the new posts show up for you. If you're having issues, go back to just seeing all the forums and surfing through the forum. When I surfed at work, I didn't go past Tilted Creativity. At home, I don't go to EZ unless I want to see porn. I'm not affected and obviously a lot happier for it according to the outrages in this thread.

I don't see what the big problem is. If you don't use the new posts feature, you can still see new posts because of a little symbol by the post.

Let me reiterate that this is an adult website. Adult websites contain adult content. That's why no one under 18 is allowed to join. If your patience is wearing thin, then do what a lot of members do and not use the "new post" function but browse the board in its entirety like frossbyte does. That way, you can avoid any naked people that might appear in the erogenous zone.

Also, my earlier post was not directed at you, so any hostility you feel from it is self-created and not my fault.

TFP isn't about pornography. It's about discussion, debate, and evolution of self.

let me put this in layman's terms: There's a thread in the Hall of Fame forum where somebody asked about the origins of TFP. It can be found here:
http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showpos...42&postcount=8

It might do a lot of us some good to remember what this site is and was about.

And, really this is for everybody: is the constant complaining about a problem that we're told is being worked doing anyone any good?

MexicanOnABike 09-03-2007 11:24 AM

I can wait for the porn problem to be fixed. It's really not a problem. with FIREFOX, you can do a search and highlight every word so i do that for the TB and i just avoid those because they are highlighted.

I seriously want this function to work for more than just the porn. I want nonsense to be available all the time and if I want, the porn as well.

For about 1 or 2years, all I did was go from forum to forum looking at the new posts that way. it's really not that bad and i still do that once in a while.

if you have problems at work, then don't use the site at work. TFP is the only place (out of my daily sites) that I never checked at work on regular hours because theres too much things that are NSFW including avatars, signatures, text and of course, pictures.

You may want to have a talk with Halx if you think this site, in it's current incarnation, is about pornography. I've had a few conversations with him about TFP, and I don't recall him saying TFP was about porn. It's in the TFP Green skin: "The Evolution of Humanity, Sexuality, and Philosophy".

Just as fishing isn't about the bait, TFP isn't about the porn. It used to be about Unreal (Halx is crazy at Unreal). Then it was about whatever. As more people joined, Halx developed the rules and it turned into the TFP we all know and love today.

ShaniFaye 09-03-2007 12:35 PM

Another vote here for "don't want porn, coz I can't look at the site from work"

Also - in every forum BUT EZ we NSFW posts - in EZ all posts are considered to be NSFW.

Hard to look at the site to see what's happening when my boss (who I share an office with) walks past my desk and sees thread titles like:

@l$scan -Angela - fist in ass + pussy + bottle + gapes + amylee fisting her
"Suck It or Fuck It"
Monster Clit
ANAL MAXIMUM...(NOT FOR DIAL-UP)
Poll: not shaved, then shaved...you decide
"REAL" firm tits and some nice "PINK"
Tits and Ass....what could be better? (CAUTION:T/A OVERLOAD!)

Yeah, I don't even have a boss... those titles just annoy me. Once again, I LIKE porn... I just like to have it in a place where *I* can go to find it, not where it shoves itself in my face every time I check out the TFP.

Not to mention... for such a tasteful place (the rest of the site), why the heck do we have such annoying thread titles in the TB?... not a huge thing, just curious about why standards go down so far in the TB.

mixedmedia 09-03-2007 01:37 PM

I think these titles are appreciated in the Titty Board for reasons having nothing to do with tastefulness and standards. Nor should they.

But like has been said before, Hal is working on the problem. Let's give him the chance. :)

Daniel_ 09-03-2007 01:45 PM

Just for the record - I have no problem with those titles (and even some of the posts are interesting and arousing, I'm sure - I've not looked at them all), but they are not of a piece with what I normally can comfortably have on screen at lunchtime.

abaya 09-03-2007 02:16 PM

Point taken. Come to think of it, the titles never really bothered me when I only saw them within the context of the TB... but once they started showing up in the "regular" search for New Posts (surrounded by plenty of non-sexual titles), they struck me as being distasteful and out of place. So maybe that's where my reaction is coming from.

The_Jazz 09-03-2007 03:52 PM

I've noticed several regular posters in the TB choosing names that seem to be a little more work-friendly. Certainly not all, but I think that the concerns are being heard by most of the members.

And the problem should be resolved shortly anyway.

Willravel 09-03-2007 04:16 PM

I think it's working!!! Woohoo! Much thanks to Halx!

teflonian 09-03-2007 05:35 PM

Willravel 09-03-2007 05:43 PM

It used to be under "Edit Options".

ubertuber 09-03-2007 05:49 PM

I don't think it is that the feature is working. I think teh EZ and Nonsense were pulled from the New Posts search scope. That's how it used to be, as I understand it.

You're right. It was designed to revolve around adult topics, the operative word has always been adult. Adult doesn't automatically mean porn, but it also doesn't preclude it.

I still don't understand why people are complaining about having to turn away from adult content on an adult site.

Even if the porn disappears, we're still gonna have titles like "I want my wife to do me with a strap-on" and "Fisting" and stuff like that in Sexuality. Are we going to start crying about those when the porn is gone?

I think maybe because it is content that they don't want to wade through unless they want it. I don't think most people would give two shits if there were porn available here or not.

There is a marked difference between "Saudi Arabia and the arms deal" and "http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/images/tags/celeb.gif a real MILF !... Monica Bellucci (B. 1964)". A site being adult and a site being for adults have two very different meanings. Being for adults tells me that there will be conversations that require an ability to concentrate and that have a prerequisite of some schooling and some experience in the world. To me, that's TFP. Simply being adult means that there might be some tits.

will, I'm not picking on you, but this is the problem with this entire conversation wrapped in one single post. No one person can define the tfp because it's so general. Some people define it as a porn board, others as discussion, and the way I've seen this site evolve over the years, I think it's a combination of both. To deny either would cripple what this place truly is. Discussion is what we're striving for, but the porn is what brings in new members. You can define the site for yourself however you want, but neither the discussion nor the porn is going anyway for quite a while.

shesus 09-03-2007 07:47 PM

This site is what it is. It's the best of the adult world: intellectual with sex involved. It is 18 and over, which I think is great because you can have not only intellectual conversations, but also sexual discussions without worrying about an underage audience.

This thread is baffling me. I'm not sure what the argument is exactly. There has always been porn on this site. Some people are suddenly surprised or embarrassed or shocked...I don't know.

There are ways to surf at work without going there. I work for the schools and came here safely with 7 year olds in the room. It is easy to filter the sex-adult out of this site. Do it. At home, enjoy it.

Always with the drama /end Sopranos quote.

cyrnel 09-03-2007 08:16 PM

The current situation is disruptive. I bow down before a great tittyboard post but it distracts from the whole of TFP. I'd rather they not show up by default, even during a testing phase.

Why is this so difficult?

There are ways to roll out new features that smooth things out: Minimal exposure testing followed by full-scale roll over _afterwards_. Complaining about people noticing a screwup is childish blaming of the victim. Competent development includes more than coding.

Willravel 09-03-2007 08:22 PM

I'm not denying TFP has a TB or that a lot of people visit it. But, as Halx has said, "Come for the porn, stay for the conversation". The pornography is the hook. The good stuff lies elsewhere. The TB is only one small part of the whole.

BTW, I'd never say remove the TB. A lot of people enjoy it. Even I enjoy it on rare occasion.

Frosstbyte 09-03-2007 10:08 PM

Not to mention it was put back to the old arrangement. 5 days of semi-demi chaos out of 4.5 years of the new post button ain't bad. And to think it was a long weekend...

Elphaba 09-04-2007 12:37 PM

I look forward to the new post feature when and if it becomes available, but I am also grateful for the step back to where we were before. Thanks!

Nimetic 09-05-2007 03:38 AM

Ah. I was going to make that request just last week. Looks like you beat me to it. Good move.

telekinetic 04-10-2008 08:20 AM

Was this too buggy to enable? If so, not to start a firestorm, but is it possible to flag Exhibition as being part of EZ? I'd rather not risk clicking on "just a few" or "its been years since I've posted here" while I'm on a conference call.

If not, it won't be the end of the world...btw I found this thread by digging for this option in my control panel, as I remembered it got enabled and couldn't find it.

SecretMethod70 04-10-2008 09:01 AM

Yeah, there were unfortunately too many bugs.

As for flagging Exhibition, we prefer to keep that separate from EZ in as many ways possible. Practically speaking, this is to discourage users from viewing it in a similar light and then posting in such a manner. But beyond that, we view Exhibition as its own special area. It's much more than a place to go to see naked pictures. It is a display of the body as art, it is an outlet for members' eroticism, it is a place for voyeurs and exhibitionists alike. It is very important that we place it in Tilted Creativity and not the Erogenous Zone.

It's a shame the feature discussed in this thread was so buggy, because I do sympathize with the slight difficulty it presents. There's just not much that can be done while retaining the proper emphasis.

telekinetic 04-10-2008 09:10 AM

Oh, I absolutely agree. I was just asking if it could be flagged into the universal "do not show in new posts" on the similar basis that it is full of unlabled NSFW (sometimes behind rather generic thread titles). I assume it's technically feasible, since we have Nonsense flagged also...so I guess I should have really started a Tilted Suggestions post. I just wanted to ensure that everyone knew I was aware of prior art.

I wouldn't dream of suggesting it be moved to EZ...Having it moved to EZ is clearly not in keeping with the intention of the subforum.

Jinn 04-10-2008 09:22 AM

It's technically possible, though doing so would, in effect, discourage (to some degree) participation in Tilted Exhibition, by nature of excluding it rather than including it.

I sympathize with the issue, but I can't say I like the idea of doing anything that would make Tilted Exhibition less visible to those who have access.

One suggestion: When at work, browse with images and attachments turned off (and avatars are a good idea too). That should take care of your risk management.

I understand the logic behind wanting to encourage (or at least, not discourage) traffic to exhib, but listen to yourself for a second: has there ever really been a problem getting traffic there, however? I mean, seriously? You feel like you have to 'lure' people to look at nude pics of our members? You must also admit that the incognitio and unlabled NSFW threads are more than a bit out of place amongst the rest of the search results.

Certainly an option, but seems like extreme overkill since the only forum with unlabled NSFW that shows up on 'new posts' is Exhibition. I used to have avatars turned off at work, but there aren't currently any frequent posters with NSFW avatars these days that post in in the discussion portions, plus the difference between a 80x80 picture of boobs and a 1280 x 800 picture depicting fellatio is not insignificant.

Before anyone says, I know I know, check which forum it is in before you click. I use the 'new posts' specifically so that I can participate in ALL discussions, regardless of my bias towards whatever subforum they happen to be in.

Nevertheless, unless a solution is adopted, I shall be more vigilant from now on, to avoid dickrolling myself in the future. Anyways, good talk.

yes, there has been a steady decline in exhibition, mostly by posters not posting themselves.

dickrollling... interesting
