Same-Sex Marriage - How Do You Vote?
Quote:
no lengthy comments please... as there is a 5 page thread FULL of debate right here in General Discussion... just curious about the "group concensus" if you will... |
thanks for voting everyone... interested to see the final result over time...
|
Why not, if two people want to make a commitment to each other.
|
I'm with rogue49... further... the 'institution' of marriage has become a legal foundation for most everything a 'couple' does in life... damnit... let's get off our political 'passive agressive' asses and grant legal status to those that are asking for it.
|
You don't always grant legal status just because people are asking for it.
|
go for it.
|
yes, of course.
|
why not?
|
Yes

Although I am not against same sex unions, or commitment ceremonies or whatever else you wish to do to declare a relationship to be a permanent one, it is not a marriage. |

but since this is a democracy... if there is a large portion of the popluation that requests equal rights and/or representation we should at least consider it... and if there is no valid legal reason against it... we should grant it... obvious milestone case in history - Rosa Parks. imo... there is too much legal "foot dragging" and red-tape for MANY worthy causes... not just this issue of same-sex marriage. |
teh divorce lawyers would love it
|
There is no reason not to. The only reason we havn't yet is because of hatred and misunderstandings. Which is fine if you want to live that way. But some people hate black people and we still let them get married. There are to many legal reasons to get married.
|
Until someone proves to me that the world will end because of gay marriages,I vote yes.
|
The main reason homosexuals want same-sex marriages legalized is because they want the tax rebate. The government gives that tax rebate to bribe couples into becoming families and having kids so one day down the road kids will pay more taxes. However, gays can't have kids....so why should they have the same benefits? I don't hate gay people I just don't condone what they do.
|
I did not vote because my option is not there. I do think that committed homosexuals should have the option to have the legal benefits (and consequences) of marriage. I think that the same should apply to any group of two or slightly more people who choose to have that kind of relationship. However, I have a real problem calling it marriage. I actually don't think that the government ought to be the business of recognizing marriage anyway. To me, marriage is a sacrament and a cultural and religious institution. There should be a seperate but corresponding legal relationship for the puposes of taxes and financial dealings and next-of-kin type issues that is purely contractual.
I may be a lone wolf on this one. |
I voted yes.
Although, I'm against marriage no matter who it is. I just think the concept of marriage is dumb. There is no need. If you love someone and you're living with then why do you need it? I just wonder what happens after a same sex marriage ends in divorce. Lets face it, the man always gets the shit end of the stick so who loses out when two guys get a divorce, and who wins big when two chics get a divorce? Another thing. Never, and I mean NEVER should a same sex marriage raise kids! It takes a mom and dad to have a kid. A man and woman. A dick and pussy. If those things are not present then forget having a child. I just think it's a fucked up situation to raise a kid in. What a skull fuck for a kid. There are also many heterosexuals that I think shouldn't be having kids. Most people are not capable of raising a kid properly because they are not responsible themselves. If you do drugs, drink, and/or smoke you're on the list of people who I think shouldn't be raising kids too. I have a rather large list which I myself am a part of, but at least I'm smart enough to know I'm not ready. |
thanks all for your votes and thoughts...
please remember to try to keep the comments simple and to the point... this topic is being hashed out over 5 pages in another thread, and i didn't want to start the "mud slinging" again... i just thought a poll might bring the general TFP concensus into focus a bit... so... with that said... please refrain from using statements of judgement, or spouting your view on what's "right & wrong"... i am interested in everyone's opinion... just hoped to avoid a duplicate, emotionally charged, heated debate. thanks! :) |
As far as I remember I haven't stated that I'm against or for same sex marriages. Only that, "just because people ask for something or want something doesn't mean that they should get it." Sorry if I misunderstood someone's reply.

Absolutely yes. Homosexuals are really the only main minority group in this country yet to benefit from civil rights. Women, African-Americans, Hispanics, Jews....all have more or less been given equal rights (at least on a legal level).
My feeling is that people's problem with gays in general stems from religion, which shouldn't get mixed with politics (though it always does). Believe me, if you could "see" that someone was gay (like you can see they are black or female) my guess would be that gays wouldn't even be allowed to vote in this country. |
If two people are happy with each other and in love then I feel it should be their freedom to wed if they so desire.
|
yes is kicking ass, so can we assume that the general population would be for the same?

My "yes" vote says enough. ;)

after participating in the somewhat heated debate on this topic here in General Discussion did this Poll come about... i'm simply interested in our community here on the TFP and what the "general consensus" is... not claiming any scientific standards here... :) |
