tattoo smoke

Sorry wasn't sure where to put this as this isn't actual artwork but a question about it.

Does anyone know if smoke can be tattooed well? I'm getting a tattoo soon of a phoenix and want to know if smoke can be added. And even if it could would it age well?

Sure it can be done but dark billowing clouds of smoke probably won't look very nice let alone age well.

What sort of smoke are you looking for?

I plan to, but Ive got a lot of design work to get done before I see one, and knowing if I should just take the smoke out now would be a big help.

The type of smoke I guess is explosion smoke.

It can be done well, but I would still ask the artist early on. Some will be better than others and you may be able to see some of his past work and see if that is what you are picturing in your mind.

My buddy had a very detailed idea and took it into a great artist and the guy totally revamped it but it ended up looking awesome.

You realize of course that tattoo artists are just that. Artists. Ask them any design issues you want, I garauntee (if they're a decent tattoo artist) that it will be helpful. It's not like they spend all day just "copy, pasting" images on people.
