Ever Have "One of Those Days...?"

So I'm sitting quietly at work when I get a call... "You better come downstairs." Ominous to say the least... Am I in trouble? Who knows? Turns out a garbage truck rolled back and knocked over a lightpole, and the lightpole hit my truck. Lucky for me the dude who parked next to me took the worst of the damage.

Yes, we happen to drive the same kind of truck, Nissan Frontier extra cab 2wd. Although it looks like his may be totaled due to certian engine damage.

Feel free to post your own "One of those days" stories...

Whoa.

Miss Cornelia in L.M. Montgomery's "Anne's House of Dreams" calls them "Jonah days."

I haven't had one in a while, but every time I do, I find it helps to listen to Mary Chapin Carpenter's "I Feel Lucky."

ShaniFaye 04-30-2007 11:00 AM

oh gosh poor trucks!!!

I was thinking of a good place to share this and you provided it for me hehehe. This is how I posted it on my genealogy board (I knew my family history geeks would get a kick out of it since its related to old medical terminology)

I would just like to thank my mother for reminding me today that the Dr has diagnosed me with something that used to be called Erysipelas - An acute, febrile, infectious disease, caused by a specific group of streptococcus bacterium and characterized by a diffusely spreading, deep-red inflammation of the skin or mucous membranes causing a rash with a well-defined margin; Contagious skin disease, due to infection of the blood with vesicular bulbous lesions. Synonyms: Rose, Saint Anthony's Fire.

My 3rd great grandfather died of it at Camp Douglas during the civil war laugh.gif I REALLY needed to hear that today, considering I have the same thing, which today is called Cellulitis and is still life threatening if not treated with anti biotics (although my form is not contagious at all, there are a few different forms of it now, caused by either strep or staph)

I just thought I would share the laugh I got when I emailed mama to tell her what the dr said and her first words were....Gee how nice to know you have the same thing that killed Logan Inman.

hehehehe actually the laugh did me good, I think its scared my hubby though!!

Shani, thats really bad news, makes mine seem trivial. Of course there is still that brown speck in my right eye that "May or may not be cancer." Doctors... meh.

ShaniFaye 04-30-2007 12:07 PM

oh no, its not really "bad" news lol when Im finished with my meds it will be just fine....I think yours is worse, you have to deal with body shops and insurance!!!

absorbentishe 04-30-2007 12:41 PM

Oh, I wish you both the best in your tribulations. :)

absorbentishe: The truck driver had to get out of the truck to open the gates leading to the trash bins. Apparently he forgot to set the parking brake, and the truck rolled backwards.

absorbentishe 05-01-2007 07:46 AM

Oh, now that's another story! What a dumb f**k then. I hope this works out for you, I hate dealing with insurances.

When I was fleeing Louisiana with my three kids, we didn't get any further than the very next town (Lake Charles) when our minivan broke down out in the middle of nowhere in the pitch blackness and I had no idea what road we were on or where we were. Two of my kids were crying and we were parked in the driveway of an auto junkyard where there was a very large and irate doberman barking at our car. I called the police and they were able to track us down by the name of the junkyard, push start our car and escort us to the nearest hotel...where we stayed for five days while they repaired the transmission again and again (each day we were thinking we'd be back on the road) with my unstable and very upset husband just 10 minutes away who knew we were staying in a hotel somewhere in Lake Charles.

It was a harrowing time.

One of those situations where NOTHING seemed to go right.

Had one yesterday. Car stalled out three times. Third time I got stuck in the center lane of a six lane highway (3 each way plus turning lane). I had to push it across alone. Thing must be 3500 pounds, then had to try and get it up an incline alone... urg.

On my birthday in the 6th grade, I got in a fight with my best friend on the way to school over who's bike was faster. Just before my first class started, the local bully punched me in the stomach. About an hour later, they pulled me out of class to tell me my grandmother died that morning.

It is the low-water point that I use to measure not only all bad days but all birthdays. Anything that I can do to find a silver lining.

SaltPork 05-04-2007 01:43 PM

i have "one of those days" just about every day.

World's King 05-04-2007 02:21 PM

I do... but only when I'm awake.

pig 05-04-2007 02:37 PM

i fishtailed a nissan sentra off a countryroad into a ditch and cracked the front axle. totalled the car.

i slipped when running around a beach house and head punched the corner of a concrete block. blacked out.

i had a pile of bricks fall on me when i was eating lunch on a construction scaffold.

countless times, have i had one of those days.

shesus 05-04-2007 04:08 PM

 sorry...a pile of bricks? OMG, that's horrible.

That sucks about your truck. I hate "those days". I used to have those days when my stockings would get a run or a heel would break. But those are trivial these days. I'm hoping to have bad days that consist of just that soon...I need a new job. I'm planning an escape plan now. I would quit, but the paychecks aren't too shabby.

Take today, although this is generally everyday:

I get to work and have parent conferences first thing to talk about how many days the student should get suspended for beating the crap out of another student yesterday. I was told by the principal to schedule this and then got yelled at for not serving outside duty.

Then I finally get the kids to a soft roar and get them somewhat engaged in instruction and I get called to a meeting that was supposedly cancelled (so I was late even though I didn't know) and had to listen to the special ed teacher take passive aggressive swipes at me for about 15 minutes. I remained professional, that's my downfall at times.

Then I get back to my room and see one girl jumping off the radiator, a few boys chasing each other around, and another girl rolling around on the floor (sixth grade mind you). While the rest of the kids are just yelling and fighting.

Then my break gets cancelled and I feel like someone is hammering a nail in the top of my head and the kids are still out of control because the sub was just sitting there shaking her head in utter disbelief...my kids are heathens. I finally get them settled and have to listen to them whine about a test.

Then they've used all the toilet paper, paper towels, and tissues and the custodian still hasn't returned with any so one student has to sit covering her face as snot is running down it because there are no tissue in the bathroom either. I'll stop there, the other half of the day is more of the same...go home, sleep, repeat
