Anyone play any instruments?

In my first posting of a new topic, I'm just wondering if any of you out there play any instruments?

I myself play mainly guitar. Although I have played a bit of bass, piano, harp, and I even sing once and a while(if you consider voice an instrument).

MexicanOnABike 04-05-2007 09:17 PM

I play the keyboard. and a little of the mouse.
and the guitar. i can rock like 60 songs no problem! only took a few weeks to learn them on hard! haha!

seriously, i can play the keyboard(piano) for a few basic songs. i never had instructions so my technique sucks. and if i had a guitar for real, i'd be playing that a lot! never tried. only on Guitar Hero.

Willravel 04-05-2007 09:23 PM

I've played piano since I was like 3 or 4. I'm addicted.

SSJTWIZTA 04-05-2007 10:55 PM

Hell yeah. I play the guitar. I used to play the trombone along time ago in band, i still dabble with it every now and then. I love my guitar though, its an Ibanez Talman TC-420, great for what i play. I believe noodles from the offspring adopted the series and its now called an "NDM."

pornclerk 04-06-2007 08:17 AM

I majored in flute in university.

hambone 04-06-2007 08:25 AM

I can play drums, bass, and a little bit of guitar.

Its fun :)

Ourcrazymodern? 04-06-2007 11:17 AM

OMG! Why am I only coming up with prurience? The instrument I play (with) best produced musicians.

Zeraph 04-06-2007 11:39 AM

A little piano, and guitar. I like the piano way better, I wish I had the time and money to get some good lessons.

stevie667 04-06-2007 02:04 PM

Used to play the trumpet, was never much good, didn't practise enough!

radioguy 04-06-2007 02:45 PM

THE TROMBONE...BEEN PLAYING FOR 16 YEARS!!!!! YA, I GET THE CHICS! :)

SecretMethod70 04-06-2007 02:53 PM

Played saxophone (primarily alto, but also tenor and baritone for a little bit) between 4th and 12th grade. Played the bassoon from 9th through 12th grade.

It's a bit of a stretch I suppose, but I think the voice counts as an instrument as well, in which case it's the one I'm most trained in, having been taking lessons since about 7th grade and majoring in vocal performance for my first 3 years of university before switching to political science.

CptAJ 04-06-2007 03:55 PM

I've been playing the guitar for a short while. But I have terrible practice habits so I suck really badly. I also seem to have a very bad music ear but something trivial like that is not gonna stop me.

I wish I had a sax or a good keyboard/piano. I love those two instruments but I've never had the money to get one.

Music should be free to try out, damnit.

spectre 04-06-2007 05:16 PM

I've been playing guitar off and on for a several years now. Used to play the drums when I was a kid.

Mister Coaster 04-06-2007 05:24 PM

Sheesh, what didn't I play?

I started playing flute in 5th grade, and stuck with that until my Junior year in High School. Then I switched to the tuba because our band had very little low brass, that and because chicks dig tuba players. (yeah right). 2nd semester of my Senior year I played trombone in jazz band and bassoon in concert band, also played bass drum in drumline.

I then was a music major in college, (majored on the tuba) where I had several classes where I had to pass tests in numerous instruments (almost all of them) including... voice, piano, clarinet, all precussion, trumpet, trombone, bassoon, flute, violin, viola and conducting. I had some experience in a few of those, and none in others. Obviously I never was "good" at the ones I was learning for the first time, but I passed all the tests.

Surprisingly, I never learned guitar, but thats the way it happened. And yes, I now am a working as a graphic designer/ illustrator. Go figure.

Years ago, I played the tuba and the trombone. Now I just mess around on the guitar. I am not very good and don't play as much as I should.

newtx 04-07-2007 03:04 AM

Tenor sax player with some alto as well. Played piano and organ as a child but didn't stick with it. Trying to teach myself harmonica currently.

flat5 04-07-2007 09:34 AM

..

roachboy 04-07-2007 10:07 AM

me too.

Halx 04-07-2007 10:46 AM

This is like a band geek reunion.

I'm not a musician, but I play one on TV.

shesus 04-07-2007 10:59 AM

I play the piano. I don't have a piano anymore though because we move too much. I would love to have one again and start teaching piano lessons. Maybe one of these days I'll talk my mom into giving me hers.

healer 04-08-2007 07:31 AM

I played the piano when I was younger and am now trying to get back into the swing of things. I'd love to learn how to play drums though. I got a pretty good ear for percussion so I'm looking into getting a cheap 2nd hand set.

connyosis 04-08-2007 07:42 AM

I used to play the clarinet until my teacher died on me. I took that as a sign...

Brightwater 04-08-2007 10:08 AM

Like many people, I played the piano when I was younger (very young, I'm still only 20) but gave it up. For me, other obligations like schoolwork had to take precedence. But now, also like many people, I regret not being able to play any longer. Sometimes when I'm at my parents' house for semester breaks, and no one else is home, I'll sit down and play a bit- which is easier now that my mother (who is in a similar situation regarding this) is taking lessons and has several beginner-level books of sheet music. I guess principally the reason that I do it secretly is that my otherwise good-for-nothing younger brother is an accomplished pianist (whereas I gave up piano for academics in middle school, he went to an arts school for it) and if I really acknowledged that I played then I would inevitably have to be compared to him... and I'm a prideful person.

Manic_Skafe 04-08-2007 10:20 AM

I just got back from a two hour guitar lesson. I've only been playing for a few months and between my job and girlfriend (2nd job) - I don't play as much as I should. But I'm getting there thanks to my awesome instructor.

I played the drum and violin in elementary and junior high but I took that about as seriously as the New York City Board of Education takes teaching music appreciation - not very seriously at all.

Pumbar 04-10-2007 08:54 AM

Drums, bass, keyboards, triangle and guitar (Epiphone Les paul goldtop, a thing of beauty). Really want to learn the cello someday.

Sultana 04-10-2007 09:22 AM

I play zills (while dancing!) and a little bit of the doumbek.

I <3 percussion instruments.

BadNick 04-10-2007 10:52 AM

For the last year or so I carry a harmonica in my car, two actually, little Hohners one G and one D ...so when I get stuck in traffic I whip one out and start tooting on it. Lately I'm also playing it as I drive down the highway ...this morning I was trying to make chords/sounds like Neil Young, kind of off key/rough, I think I did pretty good.

I also have a "special" Fender Mustang under my bed that I practice on a little but not enough. I got this about 10 years ago for my daughter who had to have a guitar just like Curt Cobain, but she moved on to something else and gave it back to me as sort of a repayment of a loan.

I also have a trumpet that I toot now and then.

The only lessons I ever had were piano lessons for about 8 years when I was a child ...over 45 yrs ago, then clarinet lessons for a couple years in high school.

Vincentt 04-10-2007 11:03 AM

I play classical guitar. I actually can't strum cords well, but my finger picking is good.

I have wanted to play the piano for a long time, I need to just buy a keyboard and start learning. I'd like a computer-keyboard interface for learning, does that exist, if not I should make it...

I don't want to put the money up, if I leave country again it would be hard to take with me. That is my excuse anyway.

Ballzor 04-10-2007 11:05 AM

I've been playing Guitar for 8 years, Drums for 4, and I've been trying to teach myself how to play piano, which so far has been unsuccessful. I've got a few songs posted on my myspace if anybody wants to hear.

Anyone else recorded somethin?

RadRuss 04-11-2007 09:27 AM

I've been playing piano since I was 8, and I'm almost done with a music composition degree (not that that's related to my instrument necessarily).

777 04-11-2007 10:05 AM

I play the cowbell ;)

bluepolaski 04-11-2007 10:54 AM

Guitar, Piano, String Bass, and Cello

ryborg 04-11-2007 08:21 PM

I can play the trumpet and I write music on my computer.

hiredgun 04-11-2007 08:31 PM

Played trombone when I was younger... now I stick to the guitar. Tried my hand at piano, but the learning curve is so much steeper that I prefer to stay with my six-string :).

knightmyre 04-12-2007 03:54 AM

I played the trumpet in jr high, switched to baritone my freshman year. I then was asked to play the tuba for the graduating senior class and never went back. I actually got a scholarship from playing that giant twisted hunk of metal and have always loved to pick one up at our reunions to play the school song with the rest of the band geeks.

biznatch 04-16-2007 12:36 PM

I play the drums, and love them.

Ger.Man 04-17-2007 10:28 AM

I've been playing the saxophone for about 10 years. I have to say that this is probably one of the very few things I'm talented in, but I never practised a lot. I played in a symphonic orchestra and a big band. When my teacher left, I quit. I also played violin for a year, but I totally hated it. I have a keyboard at home, but I feel that you need a teacher to get halfway decent.
Today I play the guitar and I think it's the perfect instrument for a lazy and impatient person like me, because it's quiet easy to learn and I can just pick it up anytime and play a few songs.:)

archetypal fool 04-18-2007 02:58 PM

Wow. Only three people have tried the violin and none liked it? I've been playing for 8 years now. It's been my soul companion since I started, and it's useful for wooing girls...:)

ItWasMe 04-19-2007 09:14 PM

I play MusicMatch. Often.
