Who do you find inexplicably/strangely sexy?
I mostly mean people in media (ie: not people in your daily life, but please feel free to share if you have a real life example). I only have a few but I am always surprised when I find myself attracted to a person I normally wouldn't find physically attractive or sexy.
There is no order here to mine, I'm just listing (a bitting humor is a common theme). Dennis Leary. His "fuck you" attitude (ala (south park's) Cartman "I do what I want"!) really speaks to me. He say's what he want's and doesn't give a shit what anyone thinks. Anthony Bourdain (chef and on Travel channel). He loves to eat and drink, loves to smoke and is un-apologetic about it. The guy is really tall and thin which would normally turn me off (I'm 5' 2") but he has a kind-of "Outsider's" (80's movie) greaser/bad boy life outlook that I love. Mike Rowe (from "Dirty Jobs" on Discovery channel). It kinda cracked me up when I went in the forum's for "Dirty Jobs", there are women who are all kinds of crazy over him. He is obviously on my list but I'm not ga-ga for him. His nose is a bit large and he's a little too facially "marlboro man" for me (I tend towards "pretty boys", but Mike is a bit ripped). His humor when he's doing the jobs he does is absolutely priceless (poo factor's in all too often, in any shape or form). So, who turns you on, for whatever reason, that isin't your norm? Mod's, I think this is a safe topic for General, I'm sure you'll move if not. Ali |
Ditto on the Mike Rowe. His voice, his sense of humor and his build are all primo.
'Luke' on Gilmore Girls. Mmmmmmm Michael Waltrip. He's handsome, funny and I'm a total sucker for southern accents. The actor David Keith. I saw him at the airport in Knoxville, Tn, standing no more than 10 feet away and I thought I'd die. And he was on MY plane!!! Silent Bob. No, I'm not kidding. I'm not sure these turn-ons aren't 'the norm' for me; except for, obviously, Silent Bob, voices are a major turn-on, followed by not-so-pretty rugged good looks and humor. And, except for Michael Waltrip, I like a little meat on the bones. |
I third Mike Rowe, and that's relatively inexplicable considering my gender. What can I say, he's a good lookin' man!
I think this question also works much better for ladies, because most things that guys find sexy are explicably so.. :) |
Ngdawg: I have to admit that Mike's voice is a factor (after reading his bio that he's done narration for gazzilion's of documentaries, I distinctly recognized his voice in two we watched last night). Oh my, I can't stop laughing that you dig a deep voice and "Silent Bob" is on your list, that is too funny (not your liking, just the irony!).
JinnKai::D Ali ! |
Inexplicably sexy eh......
hmmm tough one, I'd say Pink, whom most people I talk to dont think she's hot. umm :\ I guess pink is all I can think of. She could probably ride me longer than I could ride her heh |
Giada De Laurentiis from the food channel, I've posted this before but I find her very sexy and she cooks, travels, wow what a complete package! And that enthusiastic smile, I'm getting excited!
|
Paul Giamatti
Bill Murray kd lang |
Does Tina Fey count? Or is she actually hot from everyone else's POV also?
|
Ed Norton in a Smoochy costume.
|

yes, yes, 1000 times yes. |
Ryan Stiles. Confidence + Smart + Sense of humor = gets me every time. See also: Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Steve Martin, and Rick Moranis.
I'll take Mike Rowe, I don't think that's inexplicible, though. I'm sure I'll think of more later. |
As for the Tina Fey's of the world... Tina Fey. Especially when she was on SNL doing the news. The sexy newscaster thing. It worked for me. Also, Jenna Fisher. If you watch the Office and don't find her sexy, then I think you're crazy. Also, Anne Hathaway, Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz. This is all just today. Tomorrow this list could be totally different.
|
Bwahahaha, thanks! Just remember, this is an "Inexplicibly sexy to you" question.
:p |
Oh right, Sultana. I should read these things better before I post.
Oh well then, let's just say I find you sexy, but I won't explain why (even though I know). lol |
Uma Thurman. I know lots of people think she's gorgeous, but I usually don't. Yet... I can't stop staring at her face and her super awkward body. When I watched Kill Bill, she reminded me of a teenager that never grew into her newly long limbs.
But still... very magnetic. Weird. |
That comment about Sultana is off-topic, Daoust; she's explicably sexy.
Maggie Gyllenhaal is very ordinary looking, I think, but after watching Secretary, I think she's about the hottest thing ever. And I'm not even all that interested in D/s! You know who I'd totally do, but it makes me feel a little dirty to admit it? Anne Coulter. When she talks on TV, you can just tell she wants to be my little bitch. Oh yeah, baby, talk conservative to me! |
You speak the truth, again, ratbastid. I misread the thread title. But I can't go back now... That would be even harder to explain.
|
85% of the people I see on the streets. Seriously.
And Mabel Hoffman, but I think it's only because she can cook. Rachael Ray, the same way, but she's explicable otherwise. (Those big, pink beetles that hang on the grapevines in the spring are what first popped into my mind before I realized the question was "who?") |
Barbara Billingsly from the "Leave It To Beaver" days. No, I'm not kidding. Yes, I am sick. She can starch my apron any time.
Kelly from "The Office". She's like a Indian cheerleader, combining the exotic with the familiar. If I ever get transported back in time, I want that character to go with me. |

|
Sarah Silverman - I think she's hot as hell, but I've heard that others disagree with me.
Kari Byron from MythBusters..... Not sure if she qualifies for the "inexplicably", but she sure as hell qualifies for the "sexy" in my book. |
Quote:
|
The fact that Christian Bale has a slight sort of lisp, or at least his mouth moves a little strangely when he talks only makes him more attractive to me.
|

Cheekbones are attractive.
As a "2.8/0" in all fairness, Herman Munster. |
Yea, definitely Kari Byron from Mythbusters.. but again, I think thats explicable :)
|
kim gordon from sonic youth
|
Joaquin Phoenix only in Walk the Line...I have never liked him or found him sexy but in that movie I'm transfixed.
This next one is REALLY strange....James McAvoy...in Narnia...Until that movie I was not even interested. Seen him in other things and he's ok but man in Narnia I couldn't wait to get home and google him to see what I could find. |
Is Kim Gordon inexplicable? I've always had a thing for her...
I agree with Jess on Uma as well. I also can't explain my thing for Juliette Lewis, other than she looks dirty. |

I'm not sure whether my crush is inexplicable, but I'm drawn to Jodie Foster like no other. She seems really smart, she acts superbly well, and there's something about her that attracts me. I think it's her intense stare and her subtle confidence.
OT: I know that Jennifer Connelly is definitely explicitly sexy. But she is similar to Jodie in that she has one of the most intense stares I've ever seen. I could look into her eyes for days. |
Dwight Yoakam. It's mostly his voice. I'm not a big fan of the "cowboy" look, but damn he looks good in his hat.
I also find Gary Sinise and Sam Neill sexy, even though they are both old enough to be my dad. Jeff Goldblum is definitely attractive in a ....lurpy sort of way. |
Anthony Kiedis. He's not a good looking man. But I'd totally tie him to a bed and ride him till I was sore.
|
LOL: How long would that take?
...that lying mouthpiece who works for W: Condoleeza |
Amy Goodman from Democracy Now! is quite something.
|
NG, I'm sooooo with you on the Kevin Smith thing. Goodbye, horses.
I also find John Cusak incredibly sexy... most of my friends think I'm nuts, "Sexy? Cute, yes, but sexy?!" I'll second the Christian Bale and Joaquin Phoenix. I have a thing for that teeny cleft lip scar... and Bale's twisted humor is incredibly attractive. I'm inexplicably drawn to Hugh Laurie. My SO thinks it's hilarious, but that man turns me on like few others. In a weird, twisted, not-so-much-I-wanna-play-doctor-as-"Do-Me-Now-Bitch!" way. |
As a comfortably heterosexual man, I find Matthew McConaughey a sexy beast.
|
I 2nd Gary Sinise....he's really sexy
and I will also add Christopher Walken, dont know what it is about that man but WHOA!!! |
So I'm attracted to two types of guys, inexplicably. Type number one is the type that's on the Discovery Channel, meaning Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs and Jamie and Adam from Mythbusters, of course. I can't be the only female who fantasizes about having a threesome with Adam and Jamie. Really.
The second type is the "genius asshole" type. This would categorize House and Rodney McKay from Stargate: Atlantis. I think I'm off to go fantasize. |
Would Quentin Tarrantino fit in here? Why yes, I do believe he would.
And Billy Bob Thornton. :D |
These may not be inexplicable...sometimes it's a thin line.
But I think Colin Firth and Daniel Day Lewis are very sexy. oh, and how can I forget the most formative crush of my youth, Tim Curry. |
Ah yes, Mr. Darcy of course! I do think there's a magnetism about him, but he's not overtly sexy somehow.
I have to add Jack Black to my list. |

Tim Curry. (It's becoming clearer why my skirt was misbehaving)
|
Rachel Weisz. Whenever I talk about my future ex-wife everyone thinks I'm crazy. I think I understand why I think she is sexy, though... I like the smart, cute, feisty ones. But it's "strange" so I'll throw it in here anyway.
|
Toaster, that's not inexplicable - Rachel Weisz is hot.
|
I think it's the accent.
|
rodney dangerfield. pants down.

I really like Jim Rome from ESPN i.e. Rome is Burning, too. Kinda strange because he can be an arrogant ass oft times. But he's hot in a "take command" way. Top of my list is: David Krumholtz from the TV show "Numb3rs"...he plays Charlie Eppes the math genious who solves all the crimes for his dorky brother. Love that smart geek like Jewish look! He's got a sweet side too... Next is: Yep, Silent Bob aka Kevin Smith....too bad he's happily married. He's got that chubby huggable teddy bear look that makes him approachable. Oh and Not to Forget: yournamehere of tfp Fame. He's really handsome in a distinct Hollywood handsome way. Talented & creative like no one else. Nice thick beard too....yum. |
Queen Latifah
|
Jeff Goldblum
|
- Samantha Bee. And if you got look at pics you don't see it but if yo watch a clip...

I don't find this in the least bit difficult to understand. She is my ideal of an ideal woman. She looks great, is upbeat, and seems to be fairly well rounded in her education. She turned down an easy career from her family and worked hard to reach the top in a career she chose because of her passion. Not to mention she likely has a great trust fund. I also have to agree on the Sarah Silverman and girl from Mythbusters thing. |
speaking of Daily Show correspondents....Steve Carell
|
I'm extremely attracted to Joaquin phoenix, but he's hawt, so I guess that answer isn't strange, lol....I have to admit, I'm finding myself attracted to bill Clinton, lol...maybe cuz I know he's a freak, lol
|
I could give a list of explicable sexy people, some of whom are on this board. Inexplicable, as of this morning, is more interesting, at least to me.
Candace Parker - I generally don't find athletes sexy while they're competing, but last night I had to shift uncomfortably in my chair when she put up 24 points and didn't play for over a quarter of the game. And looked great doing it. Martha Stewart - I don't think she's physically attractive, but the way she's always in control and buttoned down makes her sexy in my mind. Carol Marin - she can ask me tough questions any time! |
Quote:
|
Jazz... Martha. I am with you on that one.
|
Samantha Bee and Uma Thurman, absolutely.
Also, and to my great shame, Ann Coulter :P. Although I think that was prompted by this site. |
How about Owen Wilson? he may be sexy to others also, but he's not really my usual type at all...
I don't usually go for caucasian features, so the issue is probably more that my tastes are unusual than that it's unusual to find Owen attractive. |
Had to resurrect this thread because I just recalled a dream last night in which I had sex with Jeremy Irons. And, no, I haven't watched Damage recently.
And he was fucking hot. :) |
Thanx Mixed, it felt too weird to resurrect my own thread. There have been so many people that I agree with and didn't think of (namely, Jeff Goldblum, if anyone care's, my favorite and slightly obscure film of his is "Mr. Frost").
MrSelfDestruct: No offense to anyone who finds her explicably sexy, but I agree with your comment about Giada De Laurentis. Not only do I think she has a big head, her grin that shows all of her teeth and gums as well as her high forehead and pinched nose turn me off and just bug me to no end (and I am a straight woman that does appreciate women sexually). Hunnychile: I too think Jim Rome is hot (and yes, his attitude plays into it even though he can piss me off sometimes, though I like his attention to the NHL lately). He's not on anymore but my hubby got a little tiffed with how I drooled over Max Kellerman! I even have a little thing for "WillyBuns" (Michael Wilbon from "PTI"). Ali |
If I might be allowed to ask,
am I alone in a curious hankering for Ginger from Gilligans Island, or would Mary Ann be considered a more respectable crush? |
CNN's Jeanie Mose.
|

|
Stephen Chow and Jim Carry. Both are funny and terrific actors. I'd gladly be sandwiched by them if I were a girl.
|
Jamie Lee Curtis, Geena Davis, Queen Latifah, Dana Delaney, Sela Ward, Jessica Lange, Meryl Streep, ..... strong, very intelligent women that also have a sense of humor.
There's more but those are the big ones. Of course none hold a candle to my Lady Sage. |
ahhh, so many I hate to narrow it down. But a couple of people that fit this "perhaps somewhat oddly sexy" theme for me:
Christian Amanpour ...damn she's hot and gutsy Nigella Lawson ...the cook lady, hhhmmmmm yummy |
Quote:
|
Sam freakin' Waterston. Maybe it's the crazy eyebrows, I just don't know.
|
David Bowie
|
I'm going to confirm the Samantha Bee thing, not because I'm so hot for her, but because I get it. And she is hot. Other comic chicks that I lust after include Maya Rudolph, Rachel Dratch, of course Tina Fey, Tina Fey, Tina Fey, Tina Fey, Janeane Garofalo, and Tina Fey.
|
James Bond. :p
|
Why thank you.
|
you ho.
Excuse me, I mean smooth headed ho. |
Christa Miller - Unbelieveably so, especially on the Drew Carey show
Sarah Harmer - I just saw her a couple of nights ago in in The End of Silence. |
Laurie Berkner. Anyone who has the cable channel "Noggin" (and a kid or three) knows who i'm talking about
|
Drew Carey.
Bob the Builder. There's just something about a man who is good with tools and machinery. |
Quote:
|
Did they?! And I thought he just had a cold. (Actually, I did for a short while.)
|
Geena Davis. I dig tall women.
Serena Williams - The scream she delivers while firing back an overhand makes me shiver like those hyenas who shiver at the name Mustafa. |
i love it when my boyfriend's mouth tastes like beer
|
Kathy Najimy... because I'm not generally attracted to big girls.
Helen Mirren... because I'm not generally attracted to women this old. |
I'm finding Flo from the Progressive Insurance ads to be sexy.
|
Quote:
|
I'm just waiting for someone to say Sarah Palin - any takers?
|
I second Noodle's John Cusack and Shani's Gary Sinise and add Stephen Colbert and Kevin Spacey.
Nancy Pelosi used to be hot, so although she's up there agewise, she's still kinda sexy. |
Quote:
|
Yes to Sarah Palin...
Some of these were already said but.... Janeane Garofalo, Samantha Bee, Christiane Amanpour, Mitzumi Takahashi a Montreal newsreporter, but OLD, she got me through puberty though so I'm attached to her kinda. Bush Jr's wife, Mrs. Clinton Jr..... Tina Fey is totally explicable. |
Amy Winehouse.
Also, it's like watching a train wreck. |
Christopher Eccleston the first Dr. on the new Dr. Who. Just something about the way he plays the Dr. that I find sexy.
|
I see I'm not the only Jeff Goldblume fan :-D
|
Hmmm.... Inexplicably sexy....
Janeane Garofalo (shrill, but hot), Chelsea Clinton (kinda hot-- and who could've guessed?!). Giada DiLaurentiis (whom I have been known to call The Ridiculously Hot Chef), Rachael Ray (something about that cheerleader/sorority gal thing: "Let's make some tacos and then screw ourselves silly! Woo hoo!"). Queen Latifah (mmmm...cleavagey goodness!) Sarah Silverman (if she's that crude professionally, what would she sound like in bed? Inquiring minds want to know!) Any female Israeli news anchor-- for some reason, Israelis like their news delivered by hot chicks! Maybe it takes the edge off... |
There is no such thing as my norm or inexplicable.
I find anyone ''attractive", given that their personality and the way they treat others is not ugly. I did have this cool dream about Chewbacca one time. |
Quote:
And my own, in no particular order... ladies first: Tilda Swinton Helena Bonham Carter Rachel Griffiths Cate Blanchett Jillian Michaels Toni Colette Franka Potente Gillian Anderson Ellen DeGeneres And the gents: +1 Steve Carrell +1 Ed Norton +1 Mike Rowe +1 Jeremy Irons Hugo Weaving Philip Seymour Hoffman Bear Grylls Lance Armstrong Brett and Jermaine from Flight of the Conchords Dennis Quaid |
Quote:
... I get turned on by women's deodorant commercials. I can't explain it. |

Kevin Spacey is probably the odd one out for me. All the other hottie celebs I'm sure plenty of others would agree with me.
|
Nigella Lawson is a wow! i looked her up since i didnt know her.
but i would say, Diane keaton for some reason. |
