Happy Birthday, TFP!

By my count, today is the TFP's 5th birthday. On this day in 2002, I submitted a link to Fark.com to drive traffic to my dead little forum. The link got posted and hundreds of people started coming to the TFP. I then used the traffic and shaped a community out of it and this is what we have 5 years later.

I'd like to thank everyone for their role in making this the great site that it is today. From the moderators who put in a great deal of their time to making sure this site is top quality, to the donors who have helped me keep this site afloat throughout the years, to the contributors who give this site it's unique flavor, to the lurkers who have the potential to be another great member. Thank you all.

In "celebration" of this lil event, I've created a Wikipedia page for the TFP. Tilted Forum Project. Feel free to fill out the page with whatever information about the site you'd like to add. I simply wrote up that little ditty just to get the page up there.

Anyways, here's to another five years. Hopefully we can expand some more and grow with the new age. After all, that's what evolution is all about.

Oh well, happy 5th, TFP!

Five Years?

mixedmedia 01-20-2007 03:57 AM

Happy Birthday, TFP! Wish I had met you earlier. :)

Sharon 01-20-2007 05:16 AM

Happy Birthday!!

eribrav 01-20-2007 05:26 AM

Very cool. You, in particular, should be very proud of what your creation has become.

laconic1 01-20-2007 05:34 AM

Wow, hard to believe it's been that long. I'm a bit hesitant about adding anything to the wikipedia page since I don't want to put any misinformation down, but I was thinking about putting down info about each version as far as dates, etc. However I only really know about the end of 3.0 before the hard drive crash and 4.0

analog 01-20-2007 05:40 AM

Ah, it's been a long road... so fun, though... and there's so much more to look forward to. :)

Happy birthday, TFP. :)

grumpyolddude 01-20-2007 06:24 AM

I think that the "notability" of TFP may get challenged by the wikipedia community, and the article may get nominated for deletion. To help prevent the article from being deleted, we need something that argues for its notability.
Anyone any ideas?

mixedmedia 01-20-2007 06:52 AM

I fixed a typo...changed "fourty" to "forty"....I'm compulsive that way, eh-heh.

Sultana 01-20-2007 07:04 AM

I wonder how TFP will be doing in five years from now at it's 10 year birthday? Can we take TFP out drinking on it's 21st?

Happy Birthday, TFP, many more.

Dilbert1234567 01-20-2007 11:05 AM

yay! 5 years.

thanks for the memories.

Halx 01-20-2007 11:10 AM

Like I said, if you have more to add, please do. I have 2 references, but it doesn't seem like they work... if someone can get them working, that would be great. I built the writeup based on Fark.com's entry.

cj2112 01-20-2007 11:10 AM

sweet! This place is incredible!

TexanAvenger 01-20-2007 11:16 AM

Five?

Found this place on Fark, and then TFP pretty much replaced Fark for me. Haven't been there in months. But I check in here nearly each time I'm on the internet.

Thanks to all that made this possible.

Typical wikipedia... no sense of scale.

Well, the only way to fix this is to prove TFP's notability. I am not sure that this can be done. As internet forums go we are pretty small (598th by post count according to this site). The fact that TFP is the GREATEST forum on the internet would unfortunately not considered be considered neutral and objective by the wikipedians! :(
So unless we were mentioned in some print publication or something like that then I don't think that there is much that we can do to prevent this article from being deleted.

there isn't anything that could or should be done
wikipedia has a criteria for articles about websites, and it's posted:

Quote:

Criteria

Notability on Wikipedia for Web-specific content[3] is based on the following criterion:

* The content itself has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent of the site itself.
o This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper and magazine articles, books, television documentaries, and published reports by consumer watchdog organizations.[4] except for the following:
+ Media re-prints of press releases and advertising for the content or site.[5]
+ Trivial coverage, such as (1) newspaper articles that simply report the internet address, (2) newspaper articles that simply report the times at which such content is updated or made available, (3) a brief summary of the nature of the content or the publication of internet addresses and site or (4) content descriptions in internet directories or online stores.

The above is the central criterion for inclusion. Below are some criteria that make it very likely that sufficient reliable information is available about particular Web content. Web content that satisfies at least one of the items below may merit its own Wikipedia article, as there is likely to be a good deal of verifiable information available and a good deal of public interest regarding it.

* The website or content has won a notable independent award from either a publication or organization.[6]
* The content is distributed via a medium which is both well known and independent of the creators, either through an online newspaper or magazine, an online publisher, or an online broadcaster.[7]

The article itself must provide proof that its subject meets one of these criteria via inlined links or a "Reference" or "External link" section. Even if an entire website meets the notability criteria, its components (forums, articles, sections) are not necessarily notable and deserving of their own separate article.
TFP has been a lot of things for me, and I'm pleased to be a member, but it doesn't warrant a wiki page.
