Tilted Blogs
So, I want to develop TFP some more. A little poke at being more relevant.
Tilted Blogs Yea, I know... a) every site on the planet has gone into blog territory and b) we already have journals. Well, I sorta wanna redeem myself for the undertaking that never was, also known as Tilted Magazine. We wanted a periodical, but what we got was nothing but work. A few featured blogs will accomplish the same thing, I think, and provide content at a more constant pace too. Journals are great on the site, but they aren't FEATURES. They have no precedence in content.. they are an equal opportunity playground that anyone can get into. This will be different. Here's what I'm looking for: I want 10+ bloggers. I want each blogger to have their own focus. By that I mean something specific that they will document with each posting. For example, I have a friend who has a blog on MLBlogs.com and his deal is he collects baseballs at baseball games. He's not an ordinary fan - he actually has the record for most baseballs collected at games. That's what makes his experience and viewpoint unique and interesting... and worthy of a blog (an award-winning one at that). So I'm looking for people who do things fairly regularly that the average person does not do and may be curious about. Are you involved in a program or a society that is exclusive or misunderstood? Do you have a job or hobby that allows you to experience noteworthy things? Are you trying to accomplish something that will take dedication and a lot of daily/weekly work? You don't have to stand out with your lifestyle though, you could lead an ordinary life like the rest of us, but have a unique view of the world around you. Can you write interesting entries that are both stimulating and perceptive? Can you make people laugh with your powers of observation? Do you take photos, create sketches, or even record soundbytes on a constant basis? I'm looking for subjects that are appealing from all sorts of standpoints. The main thing, though, is that I want a commitment to update at least once a week. If you would like to contribute to this project, please send me a PM and pitch your blog to me. I'm looking for good writing skills above all. If I get enough response from this, I'll implement the changes needed to get this going and we can begin relatively soon. If you have anything to add or any opinions on the idea, please feel free to post... |
Oh I like this idea!
I already have a food-oriented blog on Blogspot but an actual, ready-made audience would be just what I need to write more. I'll be submitting my pitch to you soon, Halx. |
OO great idea. I can't wait to see some of the ideas people come up with.
Will there be an opportunity to add more blogs down the road? |
I really like the idea. TFP has the biggest collection of smart, funny and interesting people I've ever come across and I'm sure this project will highlight that.
I can't wait  |
This sounds interesting, cant wait to see what people come up with!!!!
I like keeping my blog, but I dont ever focus on one thing....I *observe* wierd things lol |
I may be doing a blog for the sex-ed centre anyway, so if you want something like that, I'm willing to do it.
|
Being probably the oldest woman here (or least the one who admits to it), I could maybe offer insights to the finer points of growing older and the not-so-finer ones.

i am thinking about this but wonder how public these blogs would be---what relation you see them having to tfp as a whole. the journal thing that i have been doing is less a journal than a long series of experiments based on the idea of a journal. i could write about lots of stuff, but need to think about it a little, and knowing how public these would be would help.
|
uhh.. as public as I can make them?
Aren't really getting much of a response on this one. |
I'd be interested in seeing a collection of links to existing TFPer's existing blogs. A blog is a personal thing, and reading through some of the replies here, there are more than one person who's blob I might look up, if it were pointed at in an easy to find way from the tfp.
I'm not sure what is gained by branding a bunch of blogs with the tfp name - yes it would mean they would find an audience here from the folks at the tfp, but without providing full cgi/formatting access, part of the blogger's art (layout, style etc) would be compromised. If that is the case, then it's very kind of Halx to offer to host other people's blogs, but the end result would still have to be accessed via a collection of links - So, why not start off with that collection, just pointing to existing blogs written by TFP'ers, hosted elsewhere? I would really like to see the full creativity of other TFP members, and it might be nice to have a central place in the TFP to access all that creative talent. What do you think Halx? |
interested in the views of a chronic alcholic? been a drunk for 4-6 years now, depending on when you chalk up the "heavy drinking" starting, so most of my blogs deal with the loss and focus on improvement in my life. nothing great, but it'd give people a bit of insight into the dystopia of the jaded young adults of my generation.

People create their own blog sites so they can litter their page forwards and backwards with layout and design. They do this to express themselves, to complain about their lives, and to communicate with their friends. This is not what I have in mind for this project.
I am suggesting something along the lines of the publication of a periodical. Each blog author has an idiom... an angle.. that they incorporate into each post. This is what will drive the blogs - not their flashy photoshopped layout that takes up 95% of the page. I do not want to create a directory of blogs, I want to create a home to compelling literature and social commentary. |
I don't think I'd have anything interesting to tell, but then I have always thought that. But I'd love to nominate a fellow TFP'er that I know everyone loves to read from - CLAVUS.
|
There is a lot of talent here, and I think I would spend every waking moment reading TFP blogs.
I am in. I want it to be fun, and I will help in any way I can. |
And the chorus erupts...
BIG... BEN!! BIG... BEN!! BIG... BEN!! BIG... BEN!! BIG... BEN!! *ahem* ...I think I would enjoy reading an official BigBen blog. :) |
I'm gonna be going over some of the responses so far and give replies. Some are good ideas, some wont work. Either way, I'll be giving each one a response soon as to what I like and don't like.
That said, we need a lot more :) |
any updates on this Hal?
