Seeking "normal" cell phone ringtones online...
 

I just finished watching Training Day and really liked the ringtone of the phone used by the man that was ultimately shot by Denzel Washington, with a shotgun, in his living room.

I tried recording the clip of the tone from the movie, but the quality was too poor to have anything that would realistically transfer back to the phone well in edited form.

A clip of the movie, with ringtone, can be found HERE. In reality, the tone is lower pitched and not as "tingy," but that did not transfer well through my phone's voice recording.

As a more general question, I am curious if anyone knows of any online resources that provide "regular" (non-musical) phone ringtones? I am not fully satisfied with the standard ringtones on my phone, and I'd prefer a custom real ringtone over a musical one.

If anyone is able to link to a source that has a ringtone similiar to the one featured in the sound clip above, that would be icing on the cake.

Let me know if you find a good archive. I grew tired of junk & made a few from my own music & show library. Instrumentals mainly, and a couple loud traditional rings. Helps to create & download a tone sequence so you know which frequencies work best on your model.

The only site I've come across that does have a free ringtones is HERE. The site has four business ringtones, but I'd like to find others online.

How did you alter the volume of your ringtones? Mine are ridiculously soft. So soft that I can't even hear my phone going off if it's in my pocket...

Increase the volume on your cellphone.

I already figured that one out :D

But it's still the same. I can't hear it even if i'm walking around outside when it's in my pocket.

Most phones have sweet spots in their output range that sound loudest. Find these by creating a ladder ringsound and noting which are loudest, then make euro-siren ringers or whatever that just use those frequencies.

What phone is it? If it doesn't allow keying in custom sounds directly you can use MIDI sounds. I _think_ every phone on the market accepts MIDI. Grab a freeware sequencer and use a cable, SMS, email, or whatever to move the sounds to your phone.

I use GoldWave and dBpowerAmp to create and convert songs to ringtones.

Getting them to the phone itself is the tricky part, as that tends to vary depending on model and provider.

Is there a way to create your own "regular" ring tones?

I don't like my phone's pre-packaged ringtones, and am tired/uninterested in creating ringtones from songs.

What is required to create my own regular ringtone? I've seen MIDI sequencer mentioned in this thread, but I am not sure what that is/means.

but aren't hideously obnoxious ring tones so much more fun? Just imagine sitting next to someone that had "popo zao" playing every ring.

I'd prefer a classical phone ring, similar to the one's that my parents had with the old cordless phones. Nothing fancy.
