New Aussie Ad Campaign
Hopefully this link works - it is to a video file of the new Aussie Ad campaign to attract tourists.
video link There is a bit of controversy about the closing line (which I'm not going to print here) - I'd like to hear people 's reactions without any warning. So, what do you think? I'll happily tell you my opinion a little later... |
I thought it was a cute ad...certainly showed all the things people think about when they think about Australia. I don't think I would've even noticed "that word" if the title of the video hadn't pointed it out to me.
Here in America, at least, I don't think it's seen as a bad or indecent word...so I don't see what the big deal is... |
Umm, what?
I thought it was a good ad. I also would not have even noticed it except for this thread. Is that word supposed to be a curse word or something? |
it's a cute ad... I'm not sure it's going to do the job of attacting people- -though the shot of Ayer's Rock is beautiful -- makes me want togo back there... (at least I didn't have to sit thru that insufferable I still call australia home... so the ad campaigns are improving... :D
Bloody is a bit of a cuss word-- so you'd think they'd pick a better word |
Well, the girl finishes the ad with "Where the bloody hell are you?".
Especially in the older generation, this term is/was quite a normal part of speech. In Australia it really doesn't have much power as a "cussing" word. I'm certainly not offended by it. I think the supposed controversy is perhaps a thing they were banking on to get the word spread a little - this thread shows it is working :) |

Kinda like freaking/fricking?
You freakin idiot! You bloody idiot! |
it is also the "hell" part.
"bloody hell". e.g. you see a car crash - "bloody hell, someone call an ambulance" |
yeah, i can see the "hell" thing, but i really didn't find it offensive.
|
And Americans wonder why we aren't liked outside of the US...
There was no problem with that ad, and I wouldn't mind spending some time on the beach 'down under'. |
snowy - It's a bit stronger than that, but not much. It sort of depends on context too.
I'm not easily offended, so I'm probably not one to judge by. It's a bit of a gutsy marketing decision though; you know most people won't be offended by it, but the ones who are will be very vocal (as it seems they have). Personally, I say if I get a spot on the beach next to that girl, I'll go and book my ticket today... |
Bloody hell... tempest in a teapot.
Bloody, Ron Weasley says, Bloody Hell in the bloody Harry Potter movies all the time. Bloody Hell is nothing. |

That and even though I replayed the video 3 times I couldn't understand what the hell she said at the end. Even with the volume up all the way... |
Having a career in marketing and advertising I saw the ad as great. Nice visuals, light upbeat music and a hook,..'bloody hell', which causes controversy for those who care to look for it. Good ad. We are discussing it, remember the country that is being touted so therefore my professional opinion is that this ad is a success.

I'm beginning to think that some people just love the buzz that they must get while whining about how offended they are about something or other. |
ya, i couldn't catch the words the first few times either. but "bloody" and "hell" go together don't they?
not offensive in the slightest. * the girl that said "we've been practicing for 40,000 yrs" is a real fox... |
