The Early Worm Gets the Bird

I have now for the 4th time in four years -a new job. This time I really took my time about it. It took me about 2 and 1/2 months to get this job... Which brings me to my point.

This thread is about the HUGE number of Job Scams that are in the market right now. There are tons of them. If you put your resume on Monster for instance -you will most likely get approached by someone who is trying to pull you into their pyramid schemish world.

I left a Major Insurance Company (Life) because I was sick of working my ass off in an over saturated market. When I say over saturated I mean that there are too many people selling insurance for anyone who is just starting out to make a decent wage. The insurance companies know this and are engaged in an all out war to recruit the most people for thier sales team. You see -for the most part -insurance agents work on a commission only. -So it doesn't matter how many people they hire. They don't even care if you have a background in their field -just if you have enough friends and family to make it worthwhile for them to hire you.

If you meet the people that are truly successful at these ventures then you will find some of them to be a little shady. One of the most successful guys in my class -took me aside one day and was telling me about his pitch to sell people Life Insurance as some sort of alternative to College funding. I didn't roll my eyes then because I was damn near starving and simply asked the guy how he made his money. But this happens in other businesses too.

The other pyramidish jobs are obvious. They always start by telling you that your income is "unlimited". Yeah, try writing that on a loan application:

"What is your salary"

"UNLIMITED!" you reply.

They really are looking for people who are desperate for money. A lot of these companies intentionally try to charge their commission only sales team money because in their rational –it will make them better sales people.

So if any one is looking for work –remember: don’t be too desperate and don’t believe everything that the recruiter says.

Good post. I think it's important to note that this highlighted part applies to everything in life, not just the job market.

Don't believe everything you hear, and don't overvalue the opinion of someone who has a vested interest in your decision.
