This is how this thread is going to work. There have been many webcomic threads on here, but I want this one to work a bit differently than others. Here are the rules. Post a single web comic strip per post. I would like this to work a bit like the "Portraits Thread" or Jetée's The Original Animated Short where it has minimal or no comments. I'd like this thread to be nothing but funny comics from our favorite webcomics.

Try to post from a different webcomic per post, but I don't mind if you come back to a comic after posting different comics. I just don't want to see 50 comics form the same comic on here. Let's keep to this format.

Piled Higher and Deeper (also known as PhD Comics) is a newspaper and web comic strip written and drawn by Jorge Cham that follows the lives of several grad students. First published in the fall of 1997 when Cham was a grad student himself at Stanford University, the strip deals with issues of life in graduate school, including the difficulties of scientific research, the perils of procrastination, the complex student–supervisor relationship and the endless search for free food. Cham continued the strip as an Instructor in mechanical engineering at Caltech, and now draws and gives talks about the strip full time

Ha, way to steal an idea of mine without even knowing it! (Really, good on you, Eden, 'cause this idea popped into my head about a week ago, but then I thought that we might have already had a thread like this, so I began searching the archives, then I forgot about it the next day, remembered again, and started waffling about when I was going to gather up enough initiative and free time to begin the process for this new thread about webcomics, or any comic strip, really, in general.)

So, here's my addition:

Wrapped in the shawl of the internet's glorious anonymity, I write to you, oh reader, to ease your sensible--albeit misplaced--skepticism about the nature of this web comic.

Who is the scribe? From what zany world do such perversions of creative thought erupt? Many of you are likely curious about the heritage of the twisted imagination. You may be asking, what ample mind is being pillaged for such golden thought-nuggets? As you surf from comic to comic, narrowly balancing your understanding of the humor with your urge to reach across the internet and punch the cartoonist in the face, you're probably asking yourself why the author is peeing in the mouth of comedy. Who is this jackass cartoonist who so openly coddles puns affectionately and without reservation? If you're anything like the author, you've probably already stopped reading and are thinking about that half-eaten string cheese staring at you from my dinner table and so I got up and ate it and sat back down and am finishing the sentence even though I forgot what I'm talking about. You've come far enough to dig for information about the author of this web comic, and in the spirit of full transparency I will share my story.

Alas, I am, in fact, a dinosaur.

Wait! Stay your premature biases; stay your dino-hate! I am not the cold-blooded killer portrayed in Jurassic Park movies (although I am cold-blooded, which isn't a problem in the 21st century with technological wonders like the Slanket, a backwards robe I wear perpetually for its duel benefit of providing warmth and easy access to the TV clicker). I am not the dinosaur stereotype the media has created--there is no Godzilla-esque thirst for human flesh (I mainly drink Yoohoo!), I do not have a peanut-sized brian. Actually, in fairness, The Land Before Time portrayed everything pretty accurately--especially how they painted Triceratops as dicks (golly, Sarah sucked in those movies, didn't she?).

The logic behind my personal story is epic in its deficiencies: how I survived all these many years, learned the English language, moved to New York City and created a Web Comic to make a living.

But do not judge me for this. Does comedy not transcend the barriers of skin and race? Even those who are different are still prone to experience and share humor. Peel back your layers of prejudice and enjoy this website for what it is--stupid, innocent satire and playful dim wit. Together, let us explore the convolutions of humor, let us push the limits of our perspective, let us use these comics to approach the spirit of jesting from a new and different angle!

With each comic I am metaphorically extending my hand to you--the reader--like a poor adventuresome young man trying to court a woman with diamond-souled shoes in a cheesy romantic comedy. Take my hand, and let us explore my web comic together!

Each comic should be a portal; a backwards-telescope-kaleidoscope-thing that allows you to see reflections of yourself you thought were left behind in grade-school. Laugh out loud. Write (dirty?) comments as reviews. Share comics with your friends. My goal is to help you sweep back the dust from a newly discovered comic, make like a sexy-archeologist-lady and proclaim unequivocally: "I DIG IT!"

I didn't mention newspaper strips in the beginning because I didn't want a bunch of Garfield strips popping up in here. I would rather it feature "web only" strips, as that will gather more readers for the sites which could lead to more money for these artists. I'm not against newspaper strips, (I like foxtrot) but I'd lick to stick to web comics. If the strip isn't as well known in the newspaper comic world, I might be ok with posting it here.

It’s considered an honorific, and used in the same manner as “Jr.” or “PhD”: there’s a single space before it. The exclamation point is not pronounced — though many have tried, often with hilarious results.

I’m currently the Supreme Commander of Publicity & Promotions for TopatoCo, the world’s most interesting artist-direct merchandise website. In the past, I’ve been a professional movie trailer editor, a volunteer search & rescue pilot, a freelance firearm specialist for film & television, and a picture-framer. Sometimes all at the same time.

In 2009, I began turning down all other work to focus on Wondermark and TopatoCo, and currently I’m one of the small (but growing!) number of individuals supported entirely by the exciting medium of Comics on the Internet™. My income comes mainly from book and apparel sales, as well as (in much smaller measures) private commissions and the sale of advertising on this site.

Wondermark is created from 19th-Century woodcuts and engravings, scanned from my personal collection of old books and also from volumes in the Los Angeles Central Library. Most of the books are bound volumes of general-interest magazines such as Harper’s, Frank Leslie’s and Punch, but my collection also includes special-interest magazines such as Scientific American, Sears-Roebuck catalogs, storybooks, and primers.

Wondermark began in April 2003. It’s been in several papers over the years (most notably in the print edition of The Onion from 2006-2009) but these days is found mostly online or in collections from Dark Horse Books.

In addition to creating comics, I also write on the subject of beards, the comic strip medium, advertising, media literacy and business. I live in Los Angeles with my wife Nikki, and I love kittens.

Control + Alt + Del

Ctrl+Alt+Del (CAD) is a gaming-related webcomic and animated series written by Tim Buckley. The name of the comic refers to the Windows command Control-Alt-Delete. It premiered on October 23, 2002, and is currently updated every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The comic's focus has gradually shifted away from single strip gags towards longer story arcs and greater continuity. Buckley makes a living from Ctrl+Alt+Del, placing him in a small group of web comic artists devoted to their comics full-time.

Reese: If you hide the images behind a link, it will be ok. Personally I'd rather you post a comic than a comment, but that's just me being anal.

This is his first comic of the series, it's a bit rough artwork wise compared to what he does now, but it's also the first comic I ever read on the net. It does give a good representation of his sense of humor.



Something Positive

Something*Positive is the story of a few friends - namely Davan, Aubrey, PeeJee, and Jason - and their daily lifes, struggles, and the occasional mass catgirl cataclysm. The story began in Boston in 2001. Since then, it's expanded to Texas, California, and a few other nightmares along the way.

These are people you know, although you may not admit it. It's just a comic about trying to live you life and bringing a few friends with you so you don't kill anyone. At least, not anyone you might get in trouble for.

I thought about doing the same thing about two weeks ago, but most of the sexylosers comics are part of a bigger series and history ("kenta and his mom", "the suicide girl", etc.) so it wouldn't be nearly as funny (inside-joke-wise) unless a strip was displayed with links to the next successive comics in that particular universe. Too much work, I thought.

Born on a cold day in February in 1987, I have come to know comics are a true friend and a common enemy.
After many an attempt at webcomics, I try once more and started Gunshow in September of 2008.
Currently, it is my only source of income, but that is not saying a lot.

It's a "slice of life" comic, with Hazel and Jamie as the main characters, and their friends in supporting roles (this one features Jameson and Maureen.) A Softer World is a comic that was created by Emily Horne and Joey Comeau so that people would recognize them as important artistic geniuses. Sometimes the "comic" is sad or harsh. It should be noted that this is in the tradition of George Simenon's 'romans durs' (or 'hard novels') and not in the lesser traditions of comics like Peanuts or anything else not French.

Mainly the multiple strips (panels, "comics", whatever) per post for the same webcomic would be alright, especially for shorter strips (just don't overload it 2-3 would be max). I just like to keep it to one webcomic per post, so that you don't' get confused about the links to each comic. I want this thread to 1) be about posting funny comics and 2) be about linking those those comics so people can read the archives (which brings money to the authors in advertising sales and sometimes mech sales). Like Cinn's post, I sent her the link to that one comic, which as she said she read the whole thing. Now that comic has a new regular fan of the series.

What is HijiNKS Ensue about?

-Nothing, really. Geeking for the sake of geekery. HijiNKS Ensue doesn’t really follow a story. Most of the comics use one geek pop-culture reference to make fun of another geek pop-culture reference. That sounds stupid when you read it out loud but it ends up working in the end. If you are into SciFi, Technology, Comic Books, Cartoons, 80’s TV, Non 80’s TV or geek-life in general you should find something to laugh at here.

Looking for Group is a fantasy-themed Canadian webcomic written by Ryan Sohmer and drawn by Lar DeSouza. The Comic follows the adventures of Cale'Anon (an elven hunter) and Richard (an undead warlock), as well as their companions. Since its launch on November 26, 2006, it has received positive attention at Stratics and the World of Warcraft community.
