Now that I've started getting back into comics I've discovered quite a good artist in Amanda Conner. Her Power Girl is quite good.

As is her Firestar.

These are both commissioned pieces from comic shows. Here is a more finished piece.

Thank you for sharing, fill23ca. You aided in contributing a few Power Girl takes a while back, too, did you not?
Actually, you beat me to the punch, in a sense, as I, too, have an Amanda Connor's illustration to feature...
(the truth of which: I was supposed to share yesterday, as a beginning part to Fanservice! Wednesday.)

oh yeah. thank you for contributing once more, fill23ca.
(I'm sure the above was in my queue, but in all liklihood, the audience at large would not have peered upon it until after the summer, at the earliest.)

you've also reminded me... (before FF! comes into effect...)

‘Action Double Feature’ Is Everything We Want In Digital Comics [Review]
This [month] saw the release of Action Double Feature #1, and it’s one
of the most exciting comics I’ve read in a long time. Released digitally
through a dedicated iPad app and a downloadable PDF by Four Star
Studios, ADF is a showcase for its creators to take risks with brand
new concepts and characters, and as the name suggests, it’s split be-
tween two short stories: Jack Kraken, by Hack/Slash’s Tim Seeley
and Ross Campbell, and The Answer by Dennis Hopeless and Mike
Norton, the current artist of DC’s Young Justice.

But it's not just that it's a pair of solid adventure stories by some
fairly well-known creators that makes it so exciting, although it's
certainly got that going for it. What hooked me, though, was that
it reads like someone found a list of everything I want
in a digital comic and did it.

you can probably already guess what today is called

I'm starting to get my work week figured out here, and while it has a nice alliterative nature,
I'm thinking I may only be able to keep this for two weeks at a time before I run out of steam.
Any thoughts, comments, (pleas for me to give up archiving the internet)? Guess I'll go on...

Read ‘Afrodisiac’ Online: Blaxploitation Flicks x Trashy ’70s Marvel Comics
Quote:

If there are two things we love, it’s gotta be blaxploitation movies and trashy ’70s Marvel comics. Blaxploitation films managed to capture the zeitgeist and turn a thirst for social justice (and hatred for injustice) into compelling entertainment. ’70s Marvel books were full of scary monsters, talking ducks, demonic motorcycle riders, and daughters of Satan. The heyday of both genres are long gone now, but luckily, Jim Rugg and Brian Maruca share our tastes and created Afrodisiac, an incredible graphic novel that blends the two.

If you somehow managed to miss it, Adhouse has been kind enough to provide us with an online copy of entire book — which was nominated for an 2011 Eisner Award for Best Humor Publication — and you can read it for free at ComicsAlliance.

Cave Man by Liam Brazier

Can you please tell us about your fascination with pop culture characters? {artist's axiom}
I'm a product of my generation, I would surmise. I'm creaking on into my thirties now and those big tent-poles of pop iconography were really cementing themselves in every child's cerebellum during the 80s and 90s. Star Wars, for example, WAS a good part of my younger years not only to me, but to many. When asked to illustrate an image of a coffin I came back with zombies.

That stuff never leaves you, it just sort of sits there in your subconscious infecting everything you do from then on in - it becomes not an entertainment but an education, of sorts. Bottom line; I draw this or I draw that because a) I'm not the best at over-thinking things, and b) I felt like it in that moment. As a writer should 'write what they know', an illustrator should draw what they like.

Man Up by Liam Brazier

How were these illustrations made? Illustrator? {author's comments}
I suspect if I had ever used Illustrator it may have saved me more than one headache in the past, but no. When I first started dabbling in the geometric 'style' about ten years ago it developed out of method; I was carefully, (too) obsessively, scalping out tiny triangles of different colored paper and spray-mounting them onto board - a hugely lengthy process that was just as dull as me explaining it.. never the less, nowadays Photoshop's triangular lasso tool has simplified things a little as I draw and color each shape, stepping back, checking and adjusting as I go.
