This thread will act as the Galactic Empire of Star Wars trinkets and pictures found within our medium of modus and makeshifts.
I recently found this blog that has tons of Star Wars vignettes that I wish to use in the future here; also, if anyone wants to go to the effort of posting either the Robot Chicken and/or Family Guy specials, feel free. I also noticed that out of my 580 fav photos in flickr, I think that one out of every 33 pictures is somehow Storm Trooper/Star Wars-related. I'll post those as progress further along. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/188/3...f4d5dc01b4.jpg by DiscoWeasel |
Part 2 of Ryan vs Dorkman. It's been around awhile, but I love it. Who wouldn't want a lightsaber?? |
Oddly, I've never seen that before... very cool.

Was the (NSFW) tag title really necessary? I always disliked having it attributed to a favorite thread of mine, just 'cause of a singular upskirt shot, or a transparent bra. I know the pic above is neither of those things, but it was darn funny.
Well, there's nothing to be done about it now, unless more people knew about the always-handy but lesser-known [hide="your title here"] [/ hide] feature, which could have saved Shauk's post above. http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...d-238x1024.jpg |

Quick heads up- several members are following this thread at work. I've made one NSFW image into a link. You can still view the photo, just have to follow a link to get to it. Since people are interested in following this at work could we please keep this thread SFW?

I have no idea how I just "happen" to find these gems. It's just like on Wikipedia; I click a link that leads me to yet another link that is present on a page leading to another thread that mentions a blog owned by whichever website, and voila! I come up with a picture like this: (it's got to be a recent shot) http://4.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_kq3...lbozo1_500.jpg |

These are great... just curious. What about these is counter culture?
Should the title of this thread be Star Wars Culture? Just asking. |
Quote:
Star Wars, and all the characters, universe, jargon, and influence, has undoubtedly spread to nearly all facets of cultural identity that make up what it means to be a spectator and participant of it recurringly, even now, more than 30 years since its debut. From the nerds to the cool people, everyone can identify with the series. But... as I just recently had the misfortune to find out, all members of The Today Show dressed up in a Star Wars motif, I think, a week ago. It was horrible. Maybe outside this thread it's a Star-Wars Faux Culture, trying too hard to make it fit, but with my aim, I'm merely fidning & sharing the most obscure and really, the best interesting pictures that just happen to include a Stormtrooper or two. |

The Japanese V-Sign
A Historical Perspective Attachment 20522 "V for Imperial (Vader)Victory" So why exactly do most Japanese folk do the V-sign when having their photos taken? According to Wikipedia, the earliest confirmed usage of the V-sign was by Winston Churchil during World War II - the V-sign meaning "Victory." The Japanese Wikipedia for the entry Peace Sign however says that there is a theory that the two fingers mean that two nuclear bombs where dropped on Japan meaning that peace is near... During the 1972 Winter Olympics in Japan, skater Janet Lynn (who was also a peace activist) was photographed by the Japanese media doing the V-sign. Although the V-sign was already recognized in Japan, it was apparently these photos of Lynn that popularized the use of the V-sign. The Japanese entry in Wikipedia does not mention Lynn at all and instead says that the V-sign took off in the 80's when usage of the V-sign was used when kids were having their photos taken. |
do not have a pic of it, but looking at the black friday flier from Walmart, the price guarantee symbol they use is so close to the empire symbol its not even funny......... seriously, go look.....

Luke Skywalker on a Tauntaun Costume
Star Wars fans have always dressed up in robes and adorned face paint to look like Jedi’s and Sith but this wasn’t enough for Scott Holden, for he wanted to go over the top and make himself an action Tauntaun costume.
For those who do not know what Tauntauns are, here is some Star Wars 101. Tauntauns are beasts of burden and transport on the planet Hoth in the world of Star Wars. They featured in Empire Strikes Back as the mode of transport for Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. Scott made this amazing costume from scratch. Using designs made in Solidworks, he started to outline the Tauntaun. The head mold was detailed using clay, then a mold was made , then it was cast, and on and on. The horns were made in almost the same manner. Tedious process some say; I say it was passion for what he was doing. The entire process for the costume's creation is outlined here: Scott Holden's Tauntaun Costume theatrical version: http://i46.tinypic.com/eqthmv.jpg real-life recreational version: (click for youtube clip) http://i50.tinypic.com/i1lld2.jpg |

Taking a Tour of The Vader Project The Official Star Wars Blog The Vader Project at C4 - a set on Flickr ............. http://gigazine.jp/img/2007/03/30/wa...ne_darth_m.jpg "Waaaay up near the top of the tower of the Washington National Cathedral, there is a carved grotesque (a structural element to deflect rainwater from the building, similar to a gargoyle) shaped like … Darth Vader! How did the Star Wars villain get there? Turns out in the 1980s, the Cathedral sponsored a sculpture design competition for children. Four winning designs were chosen: a raccoon, a girl with pigtails and braces, a man with large teeth and an umbrella, and lastly, Darth Vader. If you must know, the Darth sculpture was proposed by Christopher Rader of Kearney, Nebraska." |
