Alright, here is the rest of the galactic shoe collection: Star Wars by Adidas | It's Hyssop Lounge

The collection for the first season is split into three packs — The Characters Pack, the Vehicles Pack and the Direct Pack. The products in each pack take inspiration from the respective aspect of the Star Wars lexicon from legendary characters and crafts to classic scenes and fuse them with iconic adidas Originals silhouettes. The pieces will begin to hit all adidas Originals stores and other select retailers in January. Also, look out for a very special web application announcing the adidas and Star Wars collaboration which will hit the internet within the next couple of weeks. Below is an overview of the products within each pack.

Star Wars: Retold (by someone who hasn't seen it)

{It was also featured by Fremen in this thread}

scenario:
"My friend Amanda had never seen a whole Star Wars film. When I asked
her if she wanted to watch the original trilogy she said that she would, but
that she already knew what happens. So I took out my voice recorder and
asked her to start from the top."

Shogun Vader, the Ultimate Cardboard Cosplay - Los Angeles Art - Style Council

http://i49.tinypic.com/fk1obb.jpg

For those who look down upon the idea of using cardboard in your cosplay, we suggest checking out this ridiculously cool Shogun Vader design created by Alexander Lam. We first met Lam at Tune in Tokyo's New Year's Eve party and then bumped into him poolside at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott during Anime L.A. last weekend. He's a member of L.A. Jedi, a non-profit performance group that teaches people how to properly engage in lightsaber tricks and makes appearances at various children's hospitals. You might have seen the group on BoingBoing TV a while back.

Lam conceived Shogun Vader back in 2007 after reading about the samurai influence on Ralph McQuarrie's conceptual designs for Star Wars. He chose the name because Shogun means "general." In the few years since he began working on Shogun Vader, Lam has gone through three costume designs and is currently working on a fourth.

hasn't Star Wars become so ingrained in our culture that it is impossible for it to be counter-culture?

I finally realized why I titled this thread the way I did: Sion, you are right. Star Wars, and all affiliates that derive thereover from, have, indeed, become so extraordinarily widespread and seen throughout that it now has become commonplace in nearly any culture worldwide to know of this iconic futuristic film series. It is virtually impossible, now 30+ years later, to be in a discussion that revolves around the theme and have one person chime up and say, "But I've never heard of this rubbish before!". Straight liar.

But, when the film trilogy was first flourishing, the diehard fans of the genre were seen as outsiders, geeks, and, in some circles, dweebs. It took decades upon decades of continued rallying for this once "counter-culture", once reserved for the sometimes-too-passionate adolescent who may or may not have enjoyed laser light shows in their basement, to become a mainstay of our now popular culture, where we have anyone from the age of 4 to 74 joining in to, I don't know, marathon the films every 4 years or so.

Simplified: It's an ironic twist in the title of what the history once was, and trying to recapture it, modern day.

Turns Out There's Something Darker Than The Dark Side

Having a zombie overload?

You still might want to save some room for the "zombies in the Star Wars universe" book, Death Troopers,
which came out (sometime in Mid-October). It turns out stormtroopers and zombies do mix. Spoilers below.

The storyline for Death Troopers is pretty simple, really — an Imperial prison barge, during the years right before the original Star Wars movie, runs into some engine trouble. Good thing they find a Star Destroyer in the middle of nowhere, which they can cannibalize for parts. Unfortunately, the Star Destroyer has some kind of weird virus on board, which kills everyone it comes into contact with... and the people who die don't stay dead. And that's about it. The survivors from the prison barge have to run a gauntlet of Imperial zombies and try to escape in one piece, while facing their own personal traumas and uncovering a sinister biological weapons program that comes straight from Lord Vader himself.

No problem. I'm glad that other members have contributed enough material here to make it seem like a great commons for the very best of whatever could be 'Star Wars' related, like the following:

Star Wars Gangsta Rap: Chronicles | animated music video | Atom Originals | Atom

it really is hard to describe how much I loved the above piece. I thought it was gonna be super corny, even though it does have that cheeseball effect to it in the beginning, the producers of the rap really embraced it to make this video, really larger than life. The lyrics are what really draws you in, progressivel becoming more complicated and so character-driven, especially when all the appropriate voice cues are laid down for them; the animation, though, (for me) is a bonus throughout. This would have made a great single regardless.

here is a one minute youtube preview of the 'SWGR: C'...
but if you can, you must really expose yourself to the full-length song. Galactic gangsta genius, I tell you.

great bonus addition: if you go offsite to the youtube video above (oh, you'll have to seeing as how they have disabled the video embedding feature; just click the the title of the video, real simple) it has the full lyrics to the rap, plus a compilation of 3 websites' videos that have all featured the song, either in a new animation, or as a fan response.

LEGO Millenium Falcon (heavily-custom-modified)

Author's synopsis: (heavily-modified by me correcting spelling/grammaticial errors)

The UCS Millennium Falcon from LEGO is brilliant, and outstanding in terms of detail, but I was disappointed seeing the lame interior, so I built the model from the ground up, and adding a full movie-accurate detailed interior, along with some lights.

The work isn't finished I'm still working on the backlights-engine and some other details, so...

"Goodnight Forest Moon" by Noah Dziobecki

http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/3...creen03ef1.jpg
Quote:

Dilemma: The first birthday of our friends’ child was approaching, and little Alaster already had more than enough stuffed animals and blinking, beeping electronic doo-dads.

Solution: Ignore work for three or four days and illustrate a Star Wars-themed take-off on a beloved children’s book instead.

Added bonus: It will also make a great gift for our own forthcoming Little One.

Result: I think the parents liked it more than Alaster, who was probably still reeling from his first sugary birthday cake experience. And I’m not sure, but I may have detected traces of jealousy on the faces of other parents in the room.

However, rather than publish and sell copies of this as was suggested, I’m much happier releasing it freely to the world. The catch: you have to print and assemble it yourself. But don’t worry, I won’t leave you high and dry...following are step-by-step instructions to produce a good quality book with a minimum of fuss.

Grab the PDF of the book here.

I don't want to have to get back into this, but I asked both The_Jazz and Cynthetiq not to include the [NFSW] tag in the title of this thread, and if any 'questionable moral' content should arise, it should be up to the original poster to either post the photo as a link with a short description, or to post the picture inside the [hide="title"][ /hide] tags.

Also, I'm not a fanboy of either franchise, but most "Star" afficiandos don't like when the other encroaches on their turf. (Star trek bodypainting in a SFW Star Wars thread seems like a double faux-pas, but I don't mind it much).

It's no secret that all Jedi Masters display extraordinary skills on the battlefield, but it seems one in particular has the impressive ability to rap and breakdance like a hip hop legend. As the Revenge of the Sith DVD makes its way off of store shelves and onto TV screens in homes around the world, fans are quickly discovering the Hip Hop Yoda Easter Egg of the beloved Jedi Master surrounded by clone troopers as he takes a much needed break to show off his street dancing skills.

Fans curious about the backstory of Yoda's breakdancing debut can look to Virginie Michel d'Annoville, one of the Lead Animators on Revenge of the Sith. During Episode III postproduction, Michel d'Annoville was responsible for various tasks such as breaking down any assigned sequence shots and evaluating the animation times. On a supervisor level, she advised each animator on his or her shot and helped to guide the acting performance of the various animated characters.

"The original idea was only to have Yoda dancing Jackie's routine and integrate the animation into the class video," Michel d'Annoville says. "Then modeler Franz Zach mentioned the idea of having clone troopers in the background following the rhythm of the song. CG supervisor Philippe Rebours came up with the background plate with Technical Director Christian Foucher. They took care of the lighting and rendering of all the elements. Additionally, Cloth Simulation Lead Steve Sauers offered to work on Yoda's robe. Finally, Compositor Mark Hopkins put together all the files and layers. It was the combination of all these amazing talents from ILM that allowed Hip Hop Yoda to reach this level of quality."

"The biggest challenge was to stick with it to the end," Michel d'Annoville says. "I knew once the production of Episode III ended, everyone would be off in separate directions, so there was definitely a deadline. Yoda is entirely key frame animated for about 1,500 frames (one minute) so it was a lot of work and sometimes I felt I would never finish. To save time, the clone troopers animation was pulled from the motion capture library and key framed from the waist up."

Any fan who has been paying attention to interviews with Animation Director Rob Coleman knows all too well about his extreme dedication to get Yoda's mannerisms just right, in so far as dangling off the sides of stairwells to capture the essence of Yoda's painful fall during his fight in the Senate room with the Emperor. Unfortunately, in order to keep the Hip Hop Yoda clip a surprise, Coleman was not asked to breakdance for motion capture footage.

Once the project was finished and everyone saw the finished masterpiece, Coleman wasn't the only one impressed with the results.

"I'm not sure how George Lucas found out about Hip Hop Yoda," Michel d'Annoville says. "I received an email from the producer Denise Ream telling me how much George loved it and his intentions to put it on the DVD. You can of course imagine how excited I was to hear that!"

In order to place the clip on the Revenge of the Sith DVD, ILM contacted the band The Roots for permission to use their song as Yoda's rapping soundtrack.

"The Roots were very enthusiastic, however they requested to have Yoda perform a specific dance move characteristic to their style," Michel d'Annoville says. "I was impressed with the way animator Maia Kayser was able to incorporate their request so seamlessly into the original animation."

As more and more fans discover the Easter egg on the Revenge of the Sith DVD, Michel d'Annoville says she hopes they enjoy Yoda portrayed in a more amusing way than they may be used to seeing him.

"I hope the fans will appreciate Hip Hop Yoda with a smile and laugh as much as the Star Wars team did during our Episode III 'monthlies' screening," Michel d'Annoville smiles. "Yoda is a wise, old Master Jedi who can always surprise us."

A very unique way to celebrate your collegiate degree: regale yourself and other
proper geeks by donning a Stormtrooper outfit for your graduation ceremony.

Via stuff.co.nz:
Manja Pieters, 36, is one of 1360 Canterbury University students to graduate this week,
and she paraded through central Christchurch in the costume yesterday before receiving
her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, majoring in film.

“I have graduated a few times before and I thought, `This is my final time – I’m going to
go out with a bang’,” she said.

“I also wanted to bring a few smiles to people’s faces. It’s been tough, with the recession
and redundancies.”
