Did you know???

Somewhat mind numbing.

This is a big reminder of why my job can be so difficult.

Taking what an author has put together (especially in non-fiction) and getting it into shape for publication is a challenge when you consider how authors use the Internet for research. Take the overabundance of information and couple it with our ever-expanding language, and you get why people like me have jobs.

Thanks for the link; that was pretty cool.

What am I feeling after watching that?

"Humankind cannot bear very much reality."

Hmmm it does appear to be gone on all the links I had of it.

I do have the *.wvx file on my laptop. How can I convert that to .wmv so I can upload it to Youtube?

jewels 11-14-2008 04:25 PM

BUMP. Finally found another link to it.

I really like seeing stuff like that. I have no way of knowing how accurate each point is, but I tend to believe it.

LoganSnake 11-14-2008 05:36 PM

Looks like Shift Happens with much better graphics and 2-3 slides with updated information.

I believe I saw this presentation in the 1st Qtr of this year, but it was stuck in my mind by the second time I saw it, which was now. Thanks.

India has more honor kids than America has kids, I think this is all just speculative math and statistics, not exactly true though, Jewels will, however get me for pestering her to repost this then doubt it!!

CinnamonGirl 11-15-2008 11:26 AM

What DOES it all mean? Don't leave us hanging like that! Arg!

Seriously, though, that was pretty cool. A little scary in some respects.

If you define 'honors student' as the top 25% of the population, then the statistic is correct (they defined it in the presentation as such).

I like the "If you are 1 in a million, in China there are 1000+ of you."
You think you are smart? Or your friend is?
As soon as the Chinese can get up to speed on finding the talented in their
population there could be a innovation explosion that puts the last 150 years
to shame.
And by the way, if the Chinese Gov't wants to tap into that talent, they will.
For reference please see: the Olympics, their Space Program.
