Visual Thesaurus
Thinkmap Visual Thesaurus - An online thesaurus and dictionary of over 145,000 words that you explore using an interactive map.
I typed in a word, let an applet load, clicked "try" (vs. buy/login) and was totally pleased with the result. You get a word with related words branching from it. Click on one of the branched words and it then opens it's own branches - very cool ![]()

Cool, yes, but I don't if it would be especially useful.
I tried indecisive, certainly not an easy word, and was underwhelmed by the results. That's not a service for which I'd be willing to pay.

I read dictionaries for fun. Got a copy of the OED micrographically printed for a 50th BD present.
The interplay and dance of words can be captivating, don't you think? This link is purely for the cool ![]()

I was looking at it more from a writer's viewpoint of needing the best source to find the most appropriate word. I own several thesaurus, but I've yet to find one that I'd call superb. I haven't spent much time checking out on-line thesaurus.
Reading dictionaries is cool, and comes in handy if you're a Scrabble player.

I found it neat. The visual branches and relationships of words, and the way you can explore and search through them, does indeed work the way your brain does.
But, $19.95 per year, for the on-line version? (Or $39.95 for the desktop version?) It's not that neat. Also, they're pretty stingy with the number of branches you're able to click through with their so called "trial" version. I was barely gettng into it, just beginning to think how neat it was, when I was halted and told I had reached the end of my trial. ![]() |

Yes, unfortunately the thing was short. But it was sweet.
