It was a rare misstep for the republicans.

The screen behind McCain was a giant plasma (maybe DLP. I'm not sure - you couldn't get that close even if you were credentialed media). They were projecting images like a big mansion-looking thing and that flag you see in the one shot early on in this video. Trouble is on the tightshots of McCain, all you saw was green (the lawn of the mansion) or blue (the sky). So that makes it rather easy to chromakey and insert your own video behind McCain, which is what happened here. Usually RNC organizers are a bit more cognizant of camera angles than that.
