Old?
Yes, but very accurate.

The URL contained a malformed video ID.

Um, URL is fine. Awesome vid, and mostly true!

Willravel 02-14-2008 10:35 PM

It must be old. He's talking about Macs freezing, which hasn't been common since the mid 90s. Not to mention he has his shirt tucked into his jeans, so he's not a Mac user.

The whole video is littered with inaccuracies and misunderstandings.

I'm Will, and I've been using Macs since 1987.

lktknow 02-15-2008 08:59 AM

I wasn't sure if it was old or not, since it was added in dec 2007. but the comedy value of it, for all PC's at times, was enough for me. lol.
Even if you are very computer literate, they do test your patience at times.

I prefer to be more evenhanded in insulting operating systems... as done by 3 Dead Trolls in a Baggie:

(If you are impatient, jump to 1:25, which is where the intro ends.)

dd3953 02-15-2008 08:33 PM

while i have never experienced any of that (and i have had my mac for about 3 years now) i couldn't help but laugh. that was funny. thanks for sharing.

now, this one, i found a while ago, it is more "evenhanded" and it's done in a nice south park type style.

Better copy of the original video.

ubertuber 02-15-2008 10:29 PM

I always liked this one best -- it's a little more dry.

Charlatan 02-15-2008 11:26 PM

When I was using a mac classic, back in 89 or 90, it was a pain the ass to use. I swore off them for years.

When I started using Macs a year and a half ago I was pissed because I was so happy with my pc.

I love my mac now. It's very stable. Rarely freezes and does everything I want it to do.

Wyodiver33 02-19-2008 09:28 PM

I like macs but if they are so great why did Apple go to an Intel platform? Macs have always been overpriced. And software availability has always been lacking compared to the PC. I think eventually Apple will stop selling computers and will eat away at Microsoft's sales of various OS's.

PowerPC was no longer able to keep up with Intel, so Apple switched.

This hasn't been the case for years. Remember that performance-wise, Macs are about on par with Alienware and higher end PCs, so you have to compare them as such. Apple just doesn't really have a bottom of the barrel. You won't find a $299 Mac, but you also won't find a Mac that's worth as little as $299.

Macs are the best Windows machines on the market. One of my best friends has XP running on his MacBook Pro right now as I'm chatting with him on AIM.

1) Because the platform is defined by the OS, not the chip architecture. Intel had a better product pipeline.

2) Not necessarily overpriced when you compare the whole package -- software, hardware, and the infrastructure of the retail operation (classes, personal training, genius bar consultation for free, practically giving away replacement items)

3) Software isn't really lacking. Autocad is the only thing that has been consistently missing. Most other programs have mac versions or analogs.

4) Hang out in an Apple Store for a few hours. They can't keep their machines on the shelves in the back. People buy at all times of the year, no matter what the stock market is doing. The recent sustained increase in market share certainly doesn't point to Apple stopping computer sales.

I'm not saying Apple is likely to become dominant or even a plurality in the foreseeable future. That would require a reassessment of the enterprise market, which I don't think they are interested in.

I totally agree with this, despite my previous blatant fanboyism. While Apple has been slowly rising over the past few years, I don't see it becoming Dell for many, many years. I think Apple is around 7% market share for computers, 15% for laptops, and around 85% for mp3 players.

... or ever.

Sorry but I have not had one good experience on a Mac, even when I was not operating the Mac but was partnered with one that uses Mac exclusively. I empathize with everything in this video. I like my Windows and I like my Debian. I don't care if you call "shill!"

Charlatan 02-19-2008 10:07 PM

I don't think MAC aims to be Dell. They don't make clones so it would be hard to capture that much of the market.

I just want to say again, how much I like my MacBook (and I was an early and dedicated Windows user).

Willravel 02-19-2008 10:21 PM

I'd be happy with a 15-20% total PC market share for Apple, Inc. Also, I'd like to hang that guy who was threatening Mac users by his thumbs and make him listen to Faust on an iPod for the rest of eternity.

1, 2, 3, 4, die right now, then die some more. 5, 6, 7, 8, now you get why Mac is great...

Charlatan 02-19-2008 10:24 PM

That's Leslie Feist... Faust is a whole other thing.

HA! I'm not even going to edit it. @ myself.

I have to say, I have been buying/using Apple computers since before Macs. I love their machines. I have not had problems with a Mac freezing up since I owned a Mac II. The only reason that my laptop is a PC and not a Mac is that, unfortunately, you just can't get Hebrew software for Mac. But now that Mac has dual-platform machines? Never buying a PC again. I have had more problems with my HP laptop/Windows XP than with all the Macs I have ever owned, combined. The best Windows OS is basically like the best Mac OS from 5 years ago, except less intuitive and user-friendly.

ubertuber 02-20-2008 07:12 AM

Well, anyway... Let's get this thing back on track. This one isn't really making fun of macs as much, but it's pretty great.
