Need help with American clothes sizing!

If a girl is 5 9, and about 110 lbs, does anyone know what size that makes her in American clothing sizes?

It depends - -sizing is generally based on measurements rather than actual height and weight - some designers cut more generously than others do -- so a person can be a size 5 in one designer and a size 7 in another designer.

this might help you out a little bit:

I am just under 5'8" and 135...size 8 ( or medium) for slacks (although I have to buy 'long') and 12 for shirts. As I was losing weight, I noticed the sizes went down one full size for every 10 lbs I lost. (45 lbs-from a 14 to an 8). Junior sizes (3,5,7,9, etc) are cut slimmer than misses (4,6,8,10, etc) and the shirts and sweaters are very short in the arms and bodice compared to their closest 'misses' counterpart.

I agree. American sizing is unpredictable at best... sizes are never quite the same from brand to brand, so you pretty much always have to try on your clothes before you buy them.

Let's take two of my favorite stores, Old Navy and American Eagle. Old Navy's sizes run large compared to American Eagle. A small top at Old Navy is about the same size as a large at AE. A size 4 in slacks at Old Navy is roughly a size 8 at AE. Kinda dumb, I think. I'm just going to start a nudist colony to avoid this whole mess.

I find American sizes funny. Not the female sizing (which is all a dark art to me), but the use of S, M, and L in American shops.

Seems to me that US Medium is Large anywhere else. It's as if the clothes manufacturers are pandering to really fat people who don't want to have to say "I wear a large" or "I need an XXL"

I'm reminded of the Seinfeld episode where he sews a 28" waist onto his jeans.
