air temp sensor

here's the deal. I built a custom intake for my 00 maxima. It has an ambient air temp which is plugged into the air pipe of the intake but before the filter. I was wondering if i should plug in the sensor inside of my piping or just leave it as "ambient". I don't want to drill because that means i have to go do some more fabrications.
Thanks
Eugene

You should be able to get away with leaving it outside of the intake tubing, as long as it's not too close to the engine or other heat sources. A good spot would be in/near the fenderwell.

Personally I'd do the job right and mount it where it belongs, though.

its the intake air temp sensor, and its importnant part in the calculations for fuel metering. power fuel economy, and drivability wil suffer with it tucked out of the way.

Yes. This is a piece that needs to be properly installed. Drivability and overall performance can suffer with it NOT where it's supposed to be. BTW, it should be AFTER the filter.

kool. yeah it was wierd because the stock location was before the filter and I read up that our MAF's don't have a built in air temp so that is why it is seperate.

It shouldn't really matter if it is before or after the filter...the filter shouldn't change the temperature of the air charge. Just suck it up and drill a whole like you're supposed to
