Just prevent messages, or do you actually get to "ignore" their posts too?

it hides a person's posts as well as prevents them from sending messages to you.

I'm sorry Mr Mephisto, I'll stop sending all of those messages

I'd like the ignore function (I don't use it here, but I have on other boards in the past) if it completely erased that persons account for me. I know that's not possible, but it'd be nice not to see the persons name at all. I think as it is you see that the person posted, but it's just blank?

Edit:
Yup, you get a message saying "This message isnt shown since so and so is on your ignore list"

I just noticed it today when I was looking at someone's profile. I guess I never noticed it before. Was it so obvious before the recent format change?

PS - I've never used it and would be loathe to do so, but I can see its utility.
