ram expansion doesn't work
On my 500mhz Thinkpad I had added a 64Meg RAM chip to bring me to 96Meg, worked fine for about three years, had a problem with the screen, replaced the screen, then about three weeks later the computer suddenly only registers 32Meg of RAM. Got new chip and installed it and it still registers only 32Meg (as shown on boot up). Win2000 is the operating system. System is as slow as blazes, trying to toggle betwwen applications is brutal! What could make this go bad so suddenly? Is there a software solution, even to check problem if not solve. TIA

Ive never seen it happen personally but it almost sounds like one of your Ram banks no longer register. Why does it not fit? Memory Banks are pretty standard man, meaning if bank1 takes sdram then bank most def takes sdram as well. Try again and see if it will fit.

Thinkpads are great. I own more than one. Go <a href="http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?lang=en_US&catalogId=-840&categoryId=2035724&cgmenbr=1&langId=-1&cgrfnbr=2035724&cntrfnbr=1&storeId=1&cntry=840/>here for Thinkpad info and drivers. Since you have changed the original setup you might have some problems.
Either way, Thinkpads are the, (enter your modern jargon here) bomb. UhOh, My post was a bad thing I guess. Mods deleted my link to IBM. Gotta love a powerful 'puter with an illuminated keyboard, small footprint, nice video for the 15" screen. Yadada, the Thinkpad is the way to go! Last edited by poof; 06-06-2003 at 09:35 PM.. |
