HDMP (XP Trouble Report) Files...

I have about 600MB worth of these hdmp files in one of the folders in this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\**myname**\Local Settings\Temp

Two questions-

1. Can I delete these HDMP files? I've searched over a dozen sites google lead me to regarding this file extension, and none of them say if I can delete them. Like I said, it's 600MB, so i want to get rid of them if I can. Do they serve a purpose, assuming all is well with my computer and don't need them for data recovery?

2. I'm assuming no, but can I delete "everything" in the Temp folder there, because it's literally all temporary shit? Can I just select the entire contents of the folder and delete everything, or do I have to be selective about it?

Thanks very much for the help!

HDMPs are just dump files. Sounds like you've let them build up for awhile. Kill them unless you're developing and need them for debugging.

Nothing should use TEMP files beyond the context of the current boot. View by date and kill up to today or when you last booted. The worst that should happen is you discover some of them are open by a process and resist deletion.

There's likely other temp junk on your drive. Try crapcleaner. Excellent little temp & garbage remover. Remember to tell it not to delete cookies for IE, & FF in the apps tab if you use it.

If it’s in a temp folder, it SHOULD be safe to delete, your only problem may come if the file is spy ware, or something worse, if you remove it manually, it could screw stuff up, these are as Cyrnel said, safe to delete.

Everything in that folder is safe to delete, you may have a problem deleting some system monitor files (perflib_perfdata_xxx.dat), or other files still in use by the computer, just omit them and delete everything else.

Use built-in disk cleanup to nuke it, or as Cyrnel said, one of my new favorites, CrapCleaner.
