Homemade Sattelite PVR basics?

I'm getting a new PC right away and I'll soon have an idle PC that I wanted to turn into a dedicated PVR. I was wondering if anyone had experience recording sattelite broadcasts via PC and if there were recommended brands or pieces of hardware that I should look into.

Thanks,

lwx

I'm not sure about a satellite PVR--you have to have a tuner card to make a PVR, and I've never seen a satellite tuner card for a computer. Not to say that one doesn't exist, but I've never seen one, and seeing how restrictive satellite TV companies tend to be with their tuners, I'd think they'd try their hardest to shut any down anyways.

It's generally done by remote to a normal sat receiver. I haven't seen a true PC tuner/receiver. Check out Freevo and MythTV. Wish I had time to keep up with this stuff.

Edit:URL Whoops.

Unfriggin' believable. I couldn't have asked for a better step-by-step guide. I have a StarChoice setup as well, so this is absolutely tailor made.

Thank you, thank you, and thank you again!
