Hooking up my external to my dvd player
Hi everyone, I recently tried to hook up my external hard drive to my dvd player through the usb port. I wasn't able to load any of the video files from my hard drive. I assumed that the usb port would be for things like external hard drives or usb keys but it appears that I was wrong, or i'm doing something wrong.
It isn't a codec issue, because my dvd player does play my video files after i burn them onto cds/dvds. When I plug in the external, it recognizes that something is attached, but none of my files show, and i'm not sure why. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Make sure all your files are in DivX format (commonly, it's the .avi extension), otherwise it won't read them. Also, some DVD players have trouble reading large volumes of data, so keep it simple. If you have an MP3 player, copy some movies onto it and see if that will work. I've used my iPod to watch .avi movies from my PC through my DVD player via USB.

Ok, I stuck a file onto my usb key and success! It played!
Now I need to buy a usb key that has a lot more memory . Now i'm actually really curious as to why my external didn't work. Maybe it's because everything is in folders. I'll try it again with some things outside of the folders.

Strange, I thought all DVD players read folders. I've owned three and they all did (two Philips and one Samsung).
