I've had luck getting strange cable configurations from these guys:

http://www.cablestogo.com/

They probably make an internal 40-pin to 80-pin cable.

Did you ask about custom cables? Almost anything can be made but it can get expensive.

The simplest solution would be to buy a SCSI controller card. I'm afraid there is no such solution as an adapter from an IDE interface (40-pin) to a SCSI (80-pin). I'm not sure how much they run, however.

Yep. That's fibre channel. You'll need to get a fibre channel card.

The QL2200 is a pretty generic card. You'll want to make sure that you don't get a "branded" one. In other words, QLogic puts a chip on the card that makes it only compatible with IBM or Dell servers.

Then you probably SHOULD get a branded one from IBM. They're a lot more expensive though. Sometimes you can find used IBM QL2200's on eBay though.

For $15 I'd try the generic one though.
