Good Computer Stores in USA
I live up in Alberta and am looking to getting my new system probably within 6 months. There is a really sweet computer store up here that will custom make anything you want. If anyone cares to check out the site it is www.memoryexpress.com
I am wondering who is a good computer store in USA, specifically who will help custom build you a rig. I have heard that USA is way cheaper than Canada for such things and wouldn't mind comparing them. And as far as the warranty goes most parts can be shipped straight to the company who made then if there is a problem. I have an aunt who works for fedex and is all over USA all the time so it probably does not matter where the store is, so long as they have a good web site to check out and potentially design the system from. Here is a general Idea of what I am getting Product Name Qty Unit Price Price ANTEC - P190 Advanced Super Mid Tower w/ Neo-Link 1200W Dual Power Supply ILC: 761345819008 SKU: MX17698 1 $409.95 $409.95 Intel - Core™2 Duo Processor E6850 3.00GHz w/ 4MB Cache ILC: 735858194457 SKU: MX18131 1 $294.95 $294.95 Thermaltake - Sonic Tower Fanless Heatpipe Cooler for P4 478/775, K7, K8 ILC: 841163000670 SKU: MX7857 1 $69.95 $69.95 Asus - Maximus Formula w/ DualDDR2 1066, 7.1 Audio, Dual GB Lan, 1394, Dual PCI-E x16 CrossFire ILC: 610839156375 SKU: MX18939 1 $279.95 $279.95 Corsair - Dominator Airflow Fan for High Performance Memory Modules ILC: 870584008095 SKU: MX16153 1 $24.95 $24.95 OCZ - 2GB PC2-8000 EL Platinum XTC Edition Dual Channel DDR2 Kit (2 x 1GB) ILC: OCZ2P10002GK SKU: MX11911 1 $299.95 $299.95 SEAGATE - 1TB Barracuda 7200.11 SATA II w/ NCQ, 32MB Cache ILC: ST31000340AS SKU: MX18814 1 $369.95 $369.95 3WARE - Escalade 7506-4LP Parallel ATA RAID Controller ILC: 693494750645 SKU: MX3616 1 $399.95 $399.95 SEAGATE - 1TB Barracuda 7200.11 SATA II w/ NCQ, 32MB Cache ILC: ST31000340AS SKU: MX18814 1 $369.95 $369.95 eVGA - e-GeForce 8800 GTX SuperClocked 768MB PCI-E w/ Dual DVI, HDTV-Out ILC: 843368000356 SKU: MX16130 1 $629.95 $629.95 Zalman - VF700-Cu Ultra Quiet Video Card Cooler ILC: 823884007008 SKU: MX5940 1 $34.95 $34.95 Assemble - Assemble Hardware ILC: BUILD_SYS_HW SKU: MX1616 1 $40.00 $40.00 Kaspersky - Internet Security 7.0 OEM ILC: KIS-OEMDIS7 SKU: MX18912 1 $34.95 $34.95 Sub Total $3,259.40 IPR Warranty $485.95 Shipping $0.00 GST 6% $224.76 Total $3,970.11 Last edited by blahblah454; 11-11-2007 at 09:11 PM.. |

NewEgg is the best parts store in the US but they don't actually assemble the PC for you. They do sell barebones systems with CPU/mobo/case put together every now and then but you gotta settle for what they have instead of ordering it based on what you want.
Also I have to recommend you downgrade the videocard and power supply. A $150 power supply with do fine and the new 8800 GT videocard is $250-$300 USD and is around 5% less powerful than the videocard you listed. Also, that RAM is massive overkill also...you can get 2x1 GB ram sticks for $50 now!! For both of them! |

you're going to have to find an independent builder if you want a fully custom rig that you don't build yourself. When I build a system it's in full consult with the person for whom I'm building it, and every system is 100% custom.. right down to the paintjob and lighting effects. The larger companies don't generally do that much custom work.
(no, this is not a solicitation, because my plate is full already and I don't have time to build you or anyone else a computer. And even if I did I certainly would not solicit that business here ) |

If it came down to it I could build it myself. The only thing I don't want to do is mount the motherboard and my brother can do that just fine.
And Lasereth I read your graphics card thread right after I posted this and noticed about the new 8800gt. And up here in Canada its still $50 for 512 MB of ram... if it is honestly that much for a 2x1 in USA then you bet your ass that is where I am ordering my parts from. I knew about newegg, its just the shipping I don't know about. I don't know what there rates are like and am afraid I will get stuck with a $200 shipping bill if I order 20 parts from them (most online stores I find charge like $10 a piece, doesn't matter its size, and they don't combine shipping) I just tried to sign up for a newegg account but they don't even have an option if I live in Canada. States only I think. Last edited by blahblah454; 11-12-2007 at 10:53 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |
