Another new, irritating problem today with windows xp
![]() Out of nowhere, I can't see the "my computer" window when I open it up. I can see tab on the bottom of the screen, but the actual window with all of my drives does not exist. When I right click on My computer and then try to select "explore" the same problem occurs, yet selecting "search" allows the window to open and I can view the drives and folders inside. Any idea where I would start with this mess?? |

It could be that the window is appearing on an area of the desktop which is off the screen (e.g. perhaps an area only visible with a higher resolution). XP usually does checks to stop this from happening, but perhaps it isn't working for some reason.
Can you right click on My Computer in the taskbar and select 'maximise'?

Another thing you can try, if it really is just a case of the window being moved offscreen:
-Right click on the My Computer button in the taskbar after you try opening it -Using your arrow keys, and not the mouse, press down until you get to 'Move' and press enter -Look for your mouse. Where is it? If it is all the way to the left, press the right arrow key to move the window to the right. If it is all the way to the top, press the down arrow key to move it down. The window should move into view. -After moving it around, press Enter again and you can stop moving the window around

Similar to the above, open my computer, then alt+tab to make sure you've got that window selected.
Hold alt and press the space bar. Release alt and press m. This has the effect of doing the same - selecting move window, but without using the mouse at all. Then use the arrow keys to move the window around and see if you can get it to come back on screen. HTH!
