That's more a matter of whether one is a daredevil thrill seeker than of whether the technique itself is dangerous. I've never felt the need to "take it to the next level", so to speak. For that matter, I've never used it throughout an entire lovemaking session either. One or two rounds usually suffices, after which normal heavy breathing carries it the rest of the way.
