Really I don't understand the big deal here, if pussy refers to the entire thing, like we have agreed here.
You can say, she has a nice pussy.. and it works. Or you can say I'd fuck her pussy... and it works. or you can say I'd stick a ballpeen hammer in that pussy.. and it works.. How can you misuse the term?? I am really confused why you are so up in arms about this. |

You've still not clearly pointed out WHAT your issue with the word is, only belabored the fact that people are using it incorrectly - in your opinion. You've made a number of assumptions: 1) That we care what you think about the word 'pussy'. 2) That we care what the 'definition' of a slang word like 'pussy' actually is. 3) That we care to change our manner of speech to meet your preferences 4) That we know what you're talking about Since you've made it very difficult to understand your position, (4) is almost guaranteed to be false. If you want us to jump on our bandwagon crusade against the incorrect usage of "pussy", you've at least give us something to defend. As of right now, my understanding is that you think "pussy" encompasses too much of the anatomy or too little, and I'm not really sure which. Really I think this was just a rant because you heard someone call someone else a pussy, you had the jeer directed at you, or it just struck you mentally that you objected to the way people use the word pussy. A rant is fine, really, it is. But it's more suited for a Journal entry than a discussion post. As it is, you've not created much of a discussion. I'm not sure why this thread hasn't been closed already. |
I've always thought of slang as more of an amorphous blob of a definition than a rigid concrete block.
There are words and phrases that annoy me either by their common definitions, usage, or "misuse," but I understand that people use them as they do and don't let it bother me. |
Or......maybe she saw the thread "Do You Find Vaginas Attractive", which technically should have been "Do You Find Vaginae Attractive", and was offended by the use of this word. Since the thread in the ladies lounge was entitled "Do You Find Penises Attractive", I thought I'd follow suit & used vaginas. Although using vulva did cross my mind, it is commonly accepted that vagina is the best generic/medical term to use for "pussy". They didnt use cock, prick, or dick so I reframed from using pussy, slit, or cunt in the title.
I am now officially done...... |

I don't think there's any such thing as the "correct" or "proper" definition for a slang term. Slang, by definition, means whatever "the people" use it to mean. Pussy, other than to refer to a cat, is not a real term for vagina, or vulva, or anything- it's a vulgarity.

I could never figure out why it is considered derogatory. Anybody? Quote:

This thread proves (at least) two unsavory things about the participants: 1. We've got way, way too much time on our hands, and 2. Any-- I repeat, ANY--talk about pussy and we are there.
Meanwhile, I'm still clueless as to why people who actually have pussies think those of us who don't are swine. |
I don't think that.
I do notice the reaction of my male friends when this term is flung their way. I have seen them drop and do 50 push-ups to dispel the 'ultimate insult.' I am not equating 'pussy' to weakness, but some must. I am looking at the original question and the only words that jumped out at me were, God!.. Wrong.. dumb kids..and stupefied. I am stupefied at the moment. |

Well, we can distinguish technical accuracy from vernacular. Technically, external female genitalia are "vulva" and the passage from the cervix to the exterior is the vagina. But in common parlance, people say "vagina" when what they are referring to is the overall genitalia. "Pussy" is just slang for vulva.
More to the point, though, who the hell cares? So long as how you use the term is intelligible in conversation, what the heck difference does it make? |
On a only slightly related note, I think its my calling in life to make 'cunt' a household word.
Here is a fun trick for you gents with rational girl friends/wives (and by that I mean they are willing to use logic over emotion). At some point in a debate say 'Quit being such a cunt about this' or the like. Make sure its not in a real argument though, you want emotions to be even before dropping the c bomb. See the waves of shock and awe on her face. Now for the fun. After she mentally recovers and says something like 'What did you call me!' or the like say 'a cunt? Whats the big deal?' Now is when you can have a discussion on the power of a word, and ask her just why its such a trigger word for women. I've never understood why its such a 'bad' word other then people are taught to think of it as the ultimate insult to a women. This is advanced communication 302, so I wouldn't recommend this unless you already know the outcome based on knowing her personality :) |
Well, the word cunt aside :p, I never knew the word pussy was seen as a derogatory word unless used to describe a man.
Perhaps I should take exception to that but, generally, I'm spurred to debate more by ideas than words. Generally. There are exceptions. But I always thought pussy was fairly acceptable slang just like dick or cock. And they are certainly sexier. :suave: |
N word vs. C word.
I don't care to offend anyone on purpose. Sticks and stone will hurt my bones but words will never hurt me? These things must be done delicately, I can think of more enlightening ways to teach someone the power of a word, and they might still talk to afterwards. forgot the 'me' part, oops. |
I'm still surprised by some people's confusion over what the term "vagina" actually means. It is a scientific term referring to what other people may call the "birth canal." I learned this in 2nd grade. What kind of education did you get?
As for using "vagina" as slang—it makes far more sense to use "pussy" instead. It's simply miscontruing the word and has led to the unfortunate and embarrassing misunderstandings of some younger people in the US. This thread has shown me that there really are several people that don't realize what the term "vagina" actually means because they hear it when really the speaker is referring to the entire female genitalia (pussy). I'm not sure I'd call it just slang... it really seems to be misunderstood. How would you feel if people started using the word "penis" to refer to the entire "package?" And I really hope people don't get that wrong, either... |
That's a pretty silly thing to get worked up over.

Furthermore, no one in this thread has evidenced ANY lack of understanding about the difference between the two. They're either made jokes (the whole cunt/snatch thing) or have simply questioned why drawing the distinction over slang and casual conversation is so important for you, which you've made no attempt to clarify. Finally, since you're making an ultra-technical definition-based point, you should probably get your definitions correct. "Pussy" as it is literally defined does not refer to the "entire female genitalia" as you indicate, but rather only to the vulva. Not that it matters or makes any difference, but just so we're clear. |
I am still not understanding what is the meaningful difference?
|
Is there a difference between a Dick and a Penis?
|
Maybe it is a compartmentalized cultural thing that is important to you in a way I do not understand.
Disambiguation perhaps? I need a tylenol. |

That is not in dispute. What is in dispute is your assertation that you can only use the word 'pussy' one way. 'Pussy', is slang, and the offhand way you assert its definition indicates that you have no idea what the confusion is, and have only been reading this thread not to understand that noone has a fucking clue what you're talking about, but to point out how you're right and we're ignorant and wrong. |

How do you think all these SUV-driving, Gap-shopping idiots reproduce? ... I was hoping they did it with eggs or spores, but no... they got man parts, too. |
Wow, the Gap is still around?
Anyway, let's keep the focus on the matter at hand: Pussy! Edit: Wait a tick! The Gap? Pussy? Hmm.... :orly: ...maybe we weren't that far off topic afterall.... |
cyborg ninja, while successful at creating a thread that generated responses...I still have no idea what your point is....
people misuse terms...and what?...how is that relevant to us? slang terms have no concrete meaning...so are you worried about people misusing slang terms, or misusing medical terms, what? and I'm sure there has been a time where a component you use regularly has failed, and in your attempt to describe the problem, you did not use the correct terminology. (automobile, bicycle, electronic device...ever heard someone refer to a computer as a CPU?) |
Speaking of derogatory slang... My wife says that tits or titties is derogatory and the acceptable words to be breasts or boobs (boobies). What do some of the ladies think about this?
|
I don't mind them.
The words, that is...:p |
BOOBIES!
TITTIES! How utterly satisfying a plural noun can be! |
It's all a matter of who is on the receiving end of the words.
The word, "fanny," in the UK is an offensive word used to describe a woman's genitals. It's probably worse than cunt to some (which means that American tourists talking about their "fanny packs" are even more offensive than their choice of belt suggests). You would not use the word, pussy, to describe female genitalia to your grandmother or in mixed company (by mixed company I mean a place where you do not know the people to whom you are speaking). It is a slang word and as such is potentially offensive to those who may be more sensitive. As for the anatomy lesson... Quote:

this whole thing has turned lolrific

So I call a pudendum a vagina, big whup. I suppose that you will call me wrong if I use a facial tissue and call it a Kleenex, use a photocopier and call it a Xerox or call some one on my wireless phone and call it a cell phone. It's a very slight extension of the word.
|
I'll accept your assertions given that I am wearing a LAB COAT.
But I'm not. I'm in casual clothes. Therefore... pussy = vagina = cunt = love pocket = reason for living Is this entire thread really about semantics? |

Nike Vag: Just do it. Chevy Vag: Use your cock. Pringles Vag: Once you pop. |
not at all
"fanny" is nowhere near as "rude" as "cunt" - at least no anywhere in the UK. |
haha this is crazy, I've never had a conversation where "pussy" was used and had to be explained...its pretty self-explanatory, and its definitely not scientific. I think we're over thinking this a little too much
