What's your purpose?

I'm tired of all this bullshit about the purpose of our species or some yet to be proven entity's purpose for us. What is your purpose? And if you don't have one why are you alive?

It's obvious that we don't need an explanation to go on breathing but then are we truly living are just existing?

Scientists say that we're an accident, a blip on the timeline of universe, an infintesimal possibility, a fluke. There is no real deep philosophical reason for our existence on this rock. The only reasons to be found are unique to each and every individual on the planet, at least the ones that matter.

Do you live for your god?family?business?brand name apparel? perpetuation of the species? spite?love?hate? or is it just because there really isn't any pleasent alternative to it? I don't have the fucking anwsers, I'm eighteen, what the hell do I know? But do you?

just because were young, doesn't mean that we dont konw things... what is it, Hindu i think beleves that we live in 7 times, or something like that... meaning that just because we are young now doesn't mean that were not older than a person that is say 60.

However you pose a question which only opens more questions. What do I live for? I would like to say I live for something, hidden perhaps, but even if were a mistake or an infintesimal possibility there has to be some reason that we happened when we did. Personally since I can't prove what I'm living for or for that matter my own exsistance for that matter I choose to live for my dreams.

You're right but with age comes a wisdom that is attained through experiences that unfortunately as a young adult I have yet to experience. This however does not mean we are not intelligent and capable like any human being.

Why does there need to be a reason for the primordial soup to bubble and eventually spawn us? There certainly is no evidence to this effect. Without proof of a reason or purpose behind the universe it can be argued that we therefore have no purpose or reason for exisiting.

I personally applaud your courage in shedding whatever negatiev and pessimistic inevitabilities the world waits to pass down to us and find self-fullfilment. By choosing to live for your dreams are you though? Words must be backed up by action no? Is that where we find satisfaction, in the completion of tasks and the actions that drive use to ever greater heights?

Is it just 5am in the morning here and I lack the capacity to fall in a much needed slumber?

I believe that each man defines his own purpose and that cosmic "truths" are essentially beyond human reach. However, with that said, there is enough joy and tragedy on this "rock" to justify a thousand lifetimes.

We all have our own purposes and destinies and those are that which we create and decide. We have been given the free will to choose who we are and what we do- and the essence of us is One- we are that essence, and our thoughts put the energy of that essence in motion to recreate. There isn't ONE purpose, there isn't ONE Truth, because of the simple and marvelous facts that we have the free will to choose what that is.
To see our species as one race, one entity, without having to divide any part of it, and to know that we are all connected by one great force that we are all a part of, that which contains no conditions, no flaws, no fear, no darkness, no anger, and keeps on going no matter what- that is enough purpose for me.

See AVATAR...........

I actually have a goal of having a legacy. I want my name to be in textbooks or spoken for years after I'm gone. I want to take my time on Earth and make something of it; make a change to the world that will effect many people, in my generation, and the following ones.

A purpose is gained only through consciousness. Any living being can choose either to follow its own purpose or be guided by another being.

The decision to continue living is reversible.
The decision to stop living is not.

That's why.

i live for life.

I used to have a very grim outlook on things, allmost nihilistic, and death was sort of a given for me, a "neh, whatever". Now im terrified of it. At the age of 18 im feeling time is running out on me, i need to live life to the fullest, only sorround myself with happy and positive people/things/memories. When you die you turn into dust, there is no intelectual process still running, you arent reflecting on your life, you are nothing and nowhere. That is what scares me, not to feel happy, sad, pain, regret and any other human emotions again.

I'm genuinely and deeply curious how you can see no purpose in this world when you have 2 wonderful women you care for and who care for you. It seems like you might believe you at least exist or have a reason to continue to exist to be happy, or to make then happy, or both...?

I couldn't possibly think I don't have a purpose when I have a person I love and who loves me.

It's doesn't have to be a purpose outside of yourself, but a purpose you create.

I'd like to think that the purpose of human existence is to experience living. There is no definite point that we all must live to and there are no set purposes we all must fill in order for our lives to be fufilled.

We exist to exist and experience until the end of that existence.

That in itself is reason enough for me to live.

As for the after-life, I worry not about what I know not of. I've seen no proof of any sort of after-life and so I don't waste any of the time that I'm here in fear of the inescapable inevitability that is death and I certainly don't waste time worrying about what's after death. When it comes it'll be here and if there's anything on the other side I'll let it all be sorted out there.

The most holy thing I know is my own existence - it's the closest thing to god (take that as you will )that I've ever experienced so I do the best I can and just LIVE.

I live hoping there will something else when I die. I believe life is a test, and whether you fail or pass the test determines what happens when you die. Or atleast thats what I hope. I hope death is just the beginning.

analog,
my life has a great deal of meaning for me. "Meaning" is something I come to conclusions about on my own as a result of lived experience. My life means a great deal to me for the reasons you describe and for others as well.

I take purpose to mean something outside of myself or some overarching external reason that is larger than the provisional meanings I can come to conclusions about.

So to reiterate, my life has meaning to me but I don't believe there's any any purpose to it all.

I'm pretty much with ARTelevison on this one. While my life has my own meaning, in the grand scheme of things whether or not I exist doesn't matter.

I used to think it was to make sure every man I met had at least ONE good blow job in their life ha ha

I've grown up, and now I've decided I dont care if I have a purpose, my life has meaning to me and thats good enuff for me

Absolutely.

No cause could succeed without followers behind the leader.

We like to think of ourselves as leaders always. It is what we are taught to strive for - to be the team captain, the CEO, the President. But those people are nothing without backup.

It could be your purpose to serve, to follow, to be the spear carrier, the right hand man, the assistant, the canon fodder... The world needs followers.

(In fact, it should be SOMEBODY'S purpose to serve me a beer. I'm getting a little dry.)

funny you asked that. because i'vebeen trying to think of a good answer for that myself.

My girlfriend can't say she loves me anymore because she says she does not understand me. she says that there seems to be nothing driving me. No ambitions, she says.

I can't even begin to understand that, i just don't make myself as complex as most people would like.

i do what pleases me. i do things out of love and out of spite. I do things with a minimuml foresight.
