So I bought a book called The Encyclopedia of Heavy Metal a couple weeks ago. I brought it to work and let a friend of mine read it. He is quite a bit older than I am, and is into similar music, which I think is very cool. Anyway, while he was reading the book he realized that he hasn't been listening to as much older rock/early metal as he used to and he didn't know why. Today he brought me some classics.

Rainbow - Down to Earth
Uriah Heep - Best of...
Joe Satriani - Flying in a Blue Dream
Deep Purple - Machine Head (I lost my copy recently)

If this is the first of their albums you've bought and you dig it, I'd suggest picking up Still Feel Gone (their 2nd album).

Speaking of Uncle Tupelo, my most recent purchase is the new Son Volt (i.e. Jay Farrar of U.T.) album Okemah and the Melody of Riot. Really liking it.

The Wrens stayed in my cd player for about a month non-stop when I first bought it. What an outstanding album.

For me, our most recent purchase was:

1. Twilight Singers - She Loves You
2. Le Tigre - This Island
3. The Arcade Fire - Funeral

Second, actually. First was March 16-20, 1992 (think that was the name). Liked that one and definitely liking this one. Thanks for the suggestion.

Jumpin - I'm really liking the Wrens as well. Already loved "She Sends Kisses", it just builds up so awesomely.

No problem. If you like those two, you'll probably like their first two albums too (although both have a bit harder edge, showing their punk influences a bit more than March and Anodyne). You really can't go wrong with any of their 4 albums

I just got a cd by a group called Niyaz:
"Niyaz is an acoustic electronic project...to form an exciting new fusion of Persian and Indian influenced music with modern electronics."
I'm lovin it!
Also picked up the latest from TransGlobal Underground, but haven't really listened to it, I'm stuck on Niyaz for now.
Oh, last week got Shakira's latest as well, Oral Fixation Vol. 1. There are a couple songs I'm absolutely obsessed with, and a few others that I just "enjoy". It's good.

Tonight I bought Jack Johnson's on and on without knowing a single song on the album, and Metric's Old World Underground, Where are you now?

Both excellent CDs that I reccommend to anyone who appeciates either 1. mellow
accoustic folk rock or 2. sexy mellow chick rock.

Definitely worth the money.

I picked up the new Wallflowers after hearing it on Rhapsody. I haven't gotten a handle on it yet--I don't know the songs by title yet--but so far, it seems to be as good as the previous three albums I have.
