The 'Pose Method' for runners
Hi all. Has anyone had any experience with Dr Ivanov's 'Pose Method' for runners? It is a style of running that was developed in the 1970s that is supposed to reduce strain on the knees and hips. From reading Runner's World, I understand it may be enjoying something of a comeback, but it has its sceptics as well.
Being a keen runner I would love to keep going for as long as I can so if you have found it to be effective in reducing stress on the knees I would be interested to hear from you, or anything else you may know of the method, pros and cons. |

never heard of it, I'm 35 now, been running since I was 20, I've never gotten the problems with my knees you're supposed to get from running. I think it's all hooey! I also play hockey, don't know if that hurts or helps, but I've had two knee injuries (minor) in hockey & have always healed more quickly than the doctors had predicted. I believe the shorter times are due to running, and my knees being stronger and more limber than others. I could also be full of crap, most of my friends accuse me of that regularly.

Hey c172g - running's great and I hope you don't get any problems. I've been been running for over 20 years now but I'm now 40 and have had a few niggles in the last few years. I guess we're all built differently so some of us would be more prone to injuries than others. I used to run with some older friends (ultra marathon types who would tire me out after 15 km and keep going the same pace for another 35 just for fun!) but when they hit their mid-40s they started having problems eventually needing surgery. Don't want to end up like that if I can avoid it
On my Saturday run I often see a guy shuffling along who'd have to be around 80. Always smiles and says 'Hi'. That's one of my goals - 80 and still running! |

I never could get to "marathon" level training. Tried my darndest but my body just isn't cut out for it. I can run 1-2 miles every day, and throw in the occasional five mile run, but I absolutely can not get into the regime required for a marathon. Maybe it's due to my low regular mileage that I don't have any problems, who knows. Like you said, everyone is different.
We have a few of the older folks who go out regularly. I'd love to make it that long, running when I'm that old is a bonus! |
