Gran turismo 4
Official release date on 22nd. Whos getting it? Outpost.com has it for 39.99 preorder. Im about to go all out and get the 900 degree logitech steering wheel. Ive been waiting for this game for so long! just wondering if there are any other GT fans here.
|
I'm very excited. It looks incredible.
|
I'll probably get it, like I got the first three. But I started getting annoyed with GT3 because I kept running the damn two hour endurance races and winning by like 10 laps, then when it got to the part where you get a random car, it ALWAYS without fail either gave me the worst car of the four that was worse than cars I already had, or even worse, exactly the same car I already had! Man...
The version they had at E3 was very similar to the previous games, except when you hit a wall, it shook the screen and your car was slower for a while. The Hong Kong course was pretty cool. Of course it helps that Hong Kong is my favorite city visually. Graphics were a little rough but I'm sure they've been cleaned up a lot. It's also disappointing they took out network play. I got a network adapter so I could play the EQOA beta, I ended up playing that beta for about 2 hours, and have never played another PS2 game online since. I'm hoping they have got more Porsche- Lamborghini-type licenses, what's the story with that? I know there's going to be many more cars than GT3. |
I'm debating whether to buy a PS2 simply for this game (currently have no gaming systems, or a computer at home). I played the first three WAY too much!
|
i'm going to wait until i hear reviews and maybe play it myself before i buy it. if it's too much like gt3, then i probably won't get it. i also would have to get the steering wheel and pedals too, which brings the total for one game to about a hundred bucks, and i don't really have a hundred bucks to spare. but, we'll see.
|
I'm getting this game without a doubt.
I heard it's gonna be online but not right away, So your saying that it's not gonna be online at all? NFSU2 i play that online but gettin bored of it. That's gonna blow if it's not online, Still grabbin it though..By far gonna be the best racing game ever..Plus it's got rally racing which is insane racing. |
Definitely, definitely getting it. Been waiting quite a while for it. I spent a good portion of my life playing Gran Turismo. Same with 2 and 3. Won't pass this one up.
|
Already pre ordered. I've been waiting for this game for a while. Graphics look intense. Depth of cars and tracks look insane. Can't wait.
|
I ordered from EB for 49.99 I hope they drop the price to outpost pricing
|
Nice a GT4 topic, I was too chicken to start one with my massive post count and all. So anyway, I've been playing GT4 (import) over at my buddies and we have succefully worn out a second gen PS2. Which brings me to having an excuse to buy a new toploader.
As for the GT series, yes they have pretty much dominated my gaming life since the Street Fighter series has fallen off. So without a doubt I'm getting this, something about the Seattle course just screams drive me.. and with that said I pop GT3 into my dying PS2. So now how am I supposed to get 100% in GTA:SA? |
After doing some looking into it, I'm sold. They have the Golf I GTi ('76) in the Japanese release. I am going to wait simply to confirm that this car is in the U.S. release and if so I will buy a PS2 simply for GT4, and disappear for about a month.
|
Waiting for it as well. Been looking for it since last summer. Gimmegimmegimmegimee.
|
If you're going all out you have to get the Nike/GT4 package, which has the game and a pair of Nike shoes together. What they have in common, who knows, but there's your ultimate package. Oh yeah, good luck finding that :)
|
Waitin here as well. My favorite game series ever.
|
I'm starting to hate my self because of this games upcoming release. It was originally supposed to be release in Nov 2k4. When it got pushed back, I figured it would turn out like Halo 2's release date. It did. Since it was delayed so long, I got rid of my PS2 (technically I just gave it to my brother). Now he claims it as his and doesn't let anybody touch it. I hate him.

This game is going to be the best driving simulation game ever. I got GT4 prologue and played it and was suprisingly displeased with it. But since then they have said to make major improvements.
My major problem with GT4 Prologue is when you are on a track like the Canyon and it seemed like the car was staying still and the track was moving around the car. That pissed me off. But they said it is all fixed now. I remember when it was supposed to come out in April of 2004, then June, then Augest. Then it just said 4th 1/4 of 2004. Then it said Dec 22 2004. Which I was looking forward to getting for X mas. They it went to Dec 31st. Then Jan 5th. Then Jan 30th. Then Feb 15th. Then now Feb 22nd or 23rd depending on where you read. I even was told like April or March at the start of Jan by my local games store. Im glad its coming out sooner. I mean they have already got commercials on TV for it so it has to be coming out soon. I hope that the cars sound more realistic this time though. Also there is not going to be Ferrari or Lamborgini in this one. They couldnt get the licenses in time. And the models for their manufacturers were not going to be ready for a release before Summer even if they did get the licenses. So they are not going to be in the game. I guess you guys are going to have to live with Ruff and Koenisegg (sp?) |
I get my Porsche driving fix from Need for Speed : Porsche Unleashed (back when Need for Speed still made quality driving games).
|
My pre order has been paid off for a while now, just waiting for it to hit the store shelves. I love the GT series and just think this one will only imporve on what already is an awesome franchise. I hope that the online play comes sometime even thought they said it is not in the release of the game.
|
Ive been reading up on online line play, from what ive read you can play online the "ghetto" way by using those private servers. It makes the playstation think your playing over lan. i can live with that

I just went out and got the Locitec 900 degree steering wheel. Put me back a whack of cash but it is so worth it. Ive been playing with it on GT3 and its really good. Took me a while to get used to it, like an hour or so, but when that was done it was wicked.
If youre like me and have already beat GT3 on a few occations this wheel makes it easy as pie to drift cars. Way easier than using the controller. Mind you you have to set up the cars for drift mode. Like lower the suspension in the front all the way down and the back a bit higher than the front. Change the front tires to super sticky and the backs to like medium or less so that you can get effective spin going. Also take out the traction control if your car has it but its a blast. Just watching the replays of linking 6 corners in a row sliding sideways through Seattle Circuit is wicked. This wheel gets 9/10 score from me. The only thing I dont like is that if you are using the wheel to select options on the menu you have to return the wheel to the normal position before the pedal will work to select what you want. But thats ok. Get it. |
I've had money down on this game since April of 2003. It was scheduled for release that May. I'm really getting tired of waiting. Honestly, I'm not sure I really want the game anymore. I was all excited for it last December, when it was coming out on the 17th, but now I'm just not feeling it. :(
|
I have the Japanese version and I recommend this game to anyone who loves the GT series, or who loves cars. There's so many different cars in this game, it's nuts. Just cruising around the city is amazing with the beautiful graphics. I haven't tried it with the steering wheel, but hopefully I will be able to make a purchase on it.

Has anyone picked up GT4 in the US yet? I'm personally waiting for some confirmed car lists to make sure certain cars I wanted that are in the Japanese version are also in the US version.
|
I picked my copy up today..It seems alright, Shit loads of cars..Even pick-up trucks. Graphics are are great..Car control seems good, Just got wait till i can starting getting the high end cars..That's when the real fun starts.
Let me know what your looking for kurt and i'll see if it's in the american version. |
Specifically looking for the VW '76 Golf GTi I (maybe Rabbit GTi for US version).
In the Japanese version you cannot buy it, you have to win the German Cup Races to win the car. That would be aweomse if you could let me know if it is in the US version! |
Ya 76 golf GTI is in it..Can't buy it either..gotta win it i suppose.
I hope you weren't actually gonna pass this game up because of this one car not being in the game..It's pretty good. I was also kinda worried the car i wanted wasn't gonna be in the game..But my Acura RSX is there. |
If your looking to get the game at a cheaper price then $50, I have a deal for you!
http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/deta...=email,ECOSTCJ $39 shipped from a trusted seller. Very hot deal. I wish I would have saw this before, I spent $50. What a great game, so addicting. The graphics are amazing. I give it a 10/10. |
Planning on getting it Thursday. That's when it'll be in major department stores over here. So I really look forward to it.
|
I just picked the game up at Fry's and I must say I am very impressed with it so far. My main complaint is that the menus take a really long time to load. Graphics wise, it is probably the best looking ps2 I've seen.
|
Quote:
No, I wouldn't pass the game up, because of the one car, but it would be the difference between an impulse buy, and waiting till I can actually afford it to buy it. If I have money left over after some real auto-repairs this weekend I will definitely be impulse buying this one. |
I been playing this game ALOT..At first i was kinda..heh about it, But it grows on you fast or atleast me.
Especially after doing the license tests and being able to drive high end cars. The replays are as real as ever with some great different modes. I'm still doing the license tests..So i haven't really even got a chance to really race any races yet, Except the beginner events with pretty much a stock car. |
I picked it up today, and didn't really stop playing all afternoon. Got my first three licenses, and won me some wierd-ass cars. Now if only I could find out what race I have to win to get me that DeLorean.....
|
How is the simulation mode?
|
Woot Woot. Just picked it up today from best buy, thank you giftcards. The graphics are sooooooo smooth and beatiful. Im my classic style i built a car with way too much hp and no suspension upgrades. Midnight purple Skyline GT-R, 576hp.
|
COUGH COUGH 539 horsepower COUGH COUGH
|
I've been racing around with my McLaren SLR all day today. I found a great way to make lots of money, and I'm milking it for all its worth.
Spoiler: In the Special Conditions races, completing the second track down forwards and backwards rewards you with a fast Toyota rally car that resells for 265k. Easy way to make cash. |
Loving this game so far.. but I play games slowly - I'm surprised that you guys are so far into it while I'm still plodding along with the beginners courses.
It gave me the option of clearing my wins from a race circuit so that I could win another car. I did that. But it gave me the same car, just a different color. Can I possibly win a different kind of car by completing the same cup, or just different flavors of this crappy car? |
I've found that each series rewards you with the same car every time you win it. Mainly the point of racing a series again is to win the car again for the money you can resell it for.
|
Am i the only one who finds this game easy as far as racing goes?
The game is great, But i can't seem to find a difficulty setting anywhere. First car i bought when i started playing was a Civic Type R, I upgraded it to about 300hp then entered the japanese events and murdered NSX's with it..NSX's only have 276hp..but i think they would have much better handling. It's kinda boring racing when i have a 10 second lead. Another thing i have noticed is that the AI is pretty pathetic, No matter what the situation is, The AI cars always try to race the exact same line..For example..Going down a straight away im watchin 2 cars behind me and instead of the car pulling out to pass the other, The car bumps into the back of the other car like two times. Great game as far as graphics go, I wish they would have made the racing more aggressive. |
I'm just about to wind up the tests for the super license. So far, pretty cool. I like all the new cars....and I FINALLY get to 'drive' my dream ride, a CLK-GTR!!!
Oh, and whomever thought up the coffee break for the super license should be shot. That was horrible. |
It will give you the same car every time. This can be a good thing though. Some of the cars sell for a lot, so you can keep on winning them and selling them for credits.
ah damn, by the time i finished writing this, the question was already answered. Anyways, beat the second series in the special conditions race and sell that car, you'll get ~260,000 credits |
got it on release date, and I must say, I am pretty impressed. BUT, yes there is a but and please hear me out. Does anyone else feel like they are playing GT3 again? Not that I do not like it, but what exactly is so ground breaking about it? The game is awesome but so was GT3, more cars, yes, more tracks, yes all this adds up to such a great game that I think they would almost have to put in over 1,000 cars and TOTALLY make it look exactly like real life to improve the series any. I am plodding along with Hal in the lowbie races still, making meager cash along the way. The one thing I did like was the fact I could bring over my A and B licenses from my GT3 save along with 100k to start out with, that really helped get me going in the slow races with a nice car.
|
One track... i don't know what it's called, but it's the first track on the Japanese Championship run... has 3 shortcuts that are more than easy to take advantage of... one of them cuts like 5 seconds off your time, while the computer has to slow down and navigate around the track. Makes it easy money because you can compete with a low end car.. lots of points to be gained too.
|
How much memory does the save use up ?
Also, what's everyone's opinion of the Nurburgring ? Is it so massive that it's unplayable ? The New Zealand release is still about 12 days away, bastards :( |
Well I did that race... sold the car.. I now have a Mercedes SL65 AMG with 800HP. I think I'm gonna do it again and buy a ton of little cars.
Nurburgring is 12 miles long.. if you're ok, each lap will take about 10 minutes. |
What's the deal with the Nike car? It has no value and I haven't found a race for it yet. Any ideas?
|
Quote:
I hope i can do an endurance race on this track. Quote:
|
Quote:
the nike car and the toyota motor triathlon race car are basically worthless... you can't use them in any races, and even if you could i doubt they'd help you win. also... i'd be cautious about selling any cars. a lot of them you can only win once and can't buy... so if you sell it, you won't be able to get it again. of course, you can do any series over and over and keep winning the car... which is a great way to make some quick cash. if you have a fast enough car, you can enter it into the japanese gt championship, flip on b-spec, and about an hour later, you're 250k richer with an awesome nissan z race car that sells for about 280k. :) |
hey dirtyrascal7, when using the b-spec mode for the endurance race can you use leave the ps2 alone when you're in 1st place? Or do you have to watch the moves of the car cautiously?
|
Quote:
I have sold a few cars i won during the beginner events, But none of the fast cars. So the endurance race on Nurburgring is 24 hours :hmm: damn, I don't know if i'll like that, That's gotta be some heavy cash you win for that with a sweet car. |
Quote:
Quote:
when you choose a race, it will take you to the screen where it lists your competition... and on the far left has the icon where you start the race. the icon to the right of that is where you choose b-spec mode. here you can choose the aggressiveness of your driver, whether to try and pass the car ahead, and whether to come in for a pit stop. if you hit R1, you can toggle between the different views... if you switch to the data view, you can push L1+right on the d-pad and increase the rate of the race up to 3x. for most short races you can just walk away at this point because you won't have to do a pit stop, but unfortunately this doesn't hold true for the endurance races. it's still very helpful in races that you don't want to do or are having trouble winning... just make sure you have a really good car because the AI isn't exactly perfect. it sometimes takes a lot longer to pass the competition than it would if you were driving. i still can't figure out the details of the skill rankings (found on the game status screen). i don't know what the maximum values are, how to increase them, or what they effect. i assume that the more you race (and the more you win) the better you get at it and the easier it becomes to win in b-spec mode... but i don't really know. anyway, hope i helped... back to the race for me (over 130 laps so far, still about 7.5 hours left in the race). |
TIP: Note sure if it is already posted...
Win the Stars and Stripes race (3 tracks) - this will bank for 30,000 (10k each) and a new Race Camaro which you can sell for 212K.... This can be done over and over which does not affect your win ratio..... |
Quote:
this means you CAN just let it go on its own for hours... but it won't be going at 3x all the time. after every pit stop you have to reset it to the data view and bump up the race speed, but if you don't mind letting it go in real time, then you can pretty much start the race and come back in a few hours. :D |
Quote:
I hope you keep one of those Camaro's to race the American GT races (The first event of the list) |

What would you guys give this game on a scale of 1-10? Gameplay i would give it a 7..I can't believe how horrible the AI is in this game Graphics, Car selection, Track Selection, Tuning Options etc, I would give a 9..There was a few cars i was hoping would be in the game but thier not. Mercury Marader (sp?), Dodge Magnum, The new GTO..I think that's not in because they are not in production yet or something. As far as imports go they pretty much got it covered, Except for ferrari's & lamborghini's..oh well. Know the screen when you are previewing an event? How it gives you any restriction on the type of cars that are allowed and so on, I wish they would put a horsepower range for every event. Just givin my opinion on some downsides to the game, I would give up some options to have a more aggressive AI personally, Like the photo option. I haven't looked to far into it but what's the LAN settings for? I know you can't play online, But LAN means local area network..Just kinda of stumped on what this is for |
I guess I'll have to do some modding. Stock SLR just can't cut it I guess. I fully intenting on beating that time......*evil look*
|
Quote:
When i get some more money to max out my BMW M3 CSL modification wise, I hope to beat that time with it. |
Quote:
i agree with you about the horrible AI... you practically have to have double the horsepower of your competition to win in b-spec mode, especially in a short race. it takes forever to pass and i can't even count how many times my driver has rear-ended someone instead of swerving around them to pass. i can't believe they spent time creating that stupid photo mode instead of fixing FUNDAMENTAL gameplay problems like this. |
Quote:
Seeing as Nurburgring is the longest track, Anybody who's up for it..Post your best time with the type of car & horsepower. We'll keep the times seperated between "Race Cars" & "Production Cars" Race Car: Camaro LM Race Car Boasting 601HP, 6 Minutes 48 Seconds. Beat That!! Production Car: Nothing Yet Anybody with any other ideas for challenges? |
Quote:
how about the fastest 1/4 mile time on the vegas strip? i'll set the bar at 1:36:24 with the 1886 daimler motor carrage. lol |
I was thinking of the honesty thing too, But i trust everyone. I got my digi cam incase somebody doesn't believe me.
Ya ok..The drag strip sounds good too. I'm not sure if i'm gonna be able to beat that time, But i'll try ;) |
Hey IC3....beat this
Nurburgring: 6 Minutes, 15 seconds Vehicle: Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren, 832 hp oh yeah, almost forgot Vegas Strip: 9.166 Seconds, same car gotta rework my gear ratios, see if I can do better |
SWEET! i just figured out that you CAN rewin prize cars for non-series championships. if you go and try to redo the race, it will ask if you want to clear all the trophies... then you can rewin all the races and get another prize car. for example, you can clear the two trophies in the rally d' capri (on easy) and rewin both of them then get another toyota rsc rally car which sells for almost $280k... a great, quick way to make some cash. :)
|
Has anyone found out how to win the DeLorean yet?
|
Quote:
I don't think I've made it to bed before 2am since this game came out. And there is now always someone on the couch and wheel. This game has some heavy addictive properties. It also makes me want to eat at Del Taco, does that happen to anyone else, or am I just the odd man out? |
Quote:
|
I find it odd that a few of the cars I am winning have no specs (no drive type, weight, etc.) and have no cost (can't be sold). I figured this was Ok for the special cars, but I just won an '05 Mazda 6 (stock) and I can't sell it and it has no drive train type so I can't enter it in quite a few races that it desereves to be in. What is the deal with this? Am I going to keep winning cars that I can't sell and can't drive or is this just a fluke?
|
Quote:
|
For money, 3x b-spec the german touring car race. 5x15k + 75k for the races, and you sell the prize car for ~750k. 900k easy :)
|
Quote:
|
not being able to sell the cars you win is typical.
I just got 25%. I threw my CLK GTR into the Nurburgring 24 hours endurance in B-spec mode, and set it at 3x speed. Lets see if this works and I wake up with a million dollars. |
I never actually thought GT3 A-Spec could get any better, but they proved me wrong. The bitmaps and graphics on this game are incredible and there are a shit load of cars and tracks to choose from. I haven't found all of the tracks yet. Does anybody know if Catalunya is on there?
|
Quote:
Its because the car isnt released in real life yet and the car company doesnt want its real specs out to the public... |
Must admit I love the game, about 10% done, using the Tuned VW mostly 630 hp very light car. The game feels like GT 3.5 not GT 4 but I am not complaining.
|

Got the game, and I don't even own a playstation. So I borrowed the neighbor's kids playstation (he has all three platforms). First time on the nurburgring did 9.24 in a buick grand national. Stock. Woo hoo! Anyways, need to get a ps2 memory card to save in simulation mode. Then I can build me some cars.
|
Anybody else having more fun with the Photo Mode than the actual racing itself? I seem to just burn hours just taking pictures of my car. Too bad I only have a used MR2 to take pictures of, not a bad car itself, but it's just not pretty.

The photo mode looks alright though, I messed around alittle bit with it..Some good options for filters n such. Although i would have liked them to put the effort they did in the photo options into the AI. |
oh no. oh god no. Please make it not be true.
I had almost 3 million credits. Every car I wanted. 30% completion. Every license. When I tried to load it up just now I get the worst message I have ever seen "Save file is corrupted. Do you wish to retry?" I retry I retry Over and over again. But nothing works. Last time I shut off my PS2, it was not saving the game. I didn't remove the memory card while it was saving. I didn't do anything wrong. And I lost everything. I know its just a videogame, but I've spent so much time in the past two weeks earning everything that I had, only to lose it all. I guess it'll be a while before I post here again. I don't think I have the energy to do all that over for a while. |
Ouch! That's bad Elwood!
I had that same error show up on me in GT3, I had played to about 68 or more %, and put the game down for 6 months, when I went back to load it up I had the same exact error. I tried playing from scratch again, but being so used to the Indy cars I quickly just gave up on it again. I feel for you, if I find anyway to recover that I'll let you know. |

I'm still using the same memory card, Just one block is corrupt..Been thinking about getting a new one though. |
This question goes out to anyone that can help me.
What car did you use for the "American Championship" race? Its the first one. Some of those cars just are so damn fast, i can't keep up. |
Its the Logitech Driving Force Pro worth it? I'm thinking about getting the wheel and the game. Pcnation is selling the wheel for about $110 which is the cheapest price I can find, with the game is going to be $160 together.
Anyone got the driving force pro here? would you recommend it? |
What do you guys think about the replay?
My friend says it looks cartoony compared to GT3. |

still running and loving this game.
What is everyone's fastest max speed contest speed? I hit 288.xx in a completely modded '96 Ruf CTT2 with Nitrous. Hit 250something in a modded '05 Ford GT with Nitrous as well. I got that LM Camaro or whatever it is called (I am pretty sure it was a prize car for one of the USA races), modded it up to 912 hp but cannot hit anything higher than 224.xx without Nitrous in max speed test. Any modders out there care to share gear ratios or settings to get top speeds? |

Cartoony? From what I've seen, some of it's confusable with real footage. |

Love the intro to the game, I almost pissed myself when i seen it. ;) Quote:
Final Drive ratio is gonna give you more top end, But slow your acceleration..So adjust your individual ratios accordingly, Or just experiment with the auto adjuster. I'm sure you could get it going alot faster than what you have it going, Maybe even quicker than the Ruf..Maybe :) Actually, Lower your final drive ratio..Like pretty low..Not all the way though. Then make 6th gear (Or whatever the top gear is) Longer..Not too long though because thier will be lag when it hits sixth if it's to far apart from 5th gear. I gave ya an idea of what to do..So just try it out and experiment. My RSX Type S has about 350HP and i can get it to do almost 200mph without nitrous. It might not be possible with the camaro, I haven't really tried tuning the ratios in the camaro so i don't know. But theoretically (sp?) 900HP car should reach 300mph if the gears are tweaked right..Maybe even more, But i doubt it. |
since I know nothing about gears, cars, or the proper ratios I usually just set the auto setting all the way out to 25 and let 'er rip from there. I have a couple friends who say they knew how to do it, but we sat there for hours the other night with that Camaro and could not pull anything faster than 224ish with it. At one point we were looking good in 5th gear then it redlines kicks over to 6th and starts slowing down WTF.
Nothing we tried would get that car faster than 224ish without the juice. |
The auto setting is the way to go, but you may want to set top gear a little wider if you are redlining it in top gear.
At least this was the case in all the other GT games, 5 more days to go :D |
Anyone know what the car is on the Nurburgring Lap Guide on the International A license test? I friggin love that car but can't figure out what it is.......

muchos gracias, that thing has some super duper torque or some really shitty tires, i could break the back wheels loose REALLY easily, good times =) and sexy soundin' car
|
My local games store has a store copy of GT4 and I played it for a good half hour today. Fuck me the Nurburgring is narrow, and has all these little bumps in it that throw my car off course... maybe it's just the car without the mods I only played arcade mode. Also it's sad to see my beloved Seattle City track edited so you can't cut through the chicane off pit road.
Oh and the AI kicked my ass. 4 more days! |
For top speed, remember to set the car as low as it will go in ride height, and remove any downforce which leads to drag.
|
I hope they have my hatch. I love the hatch.
