Firefox question
Ok, just got Firefox and for the most part its been working fine, but sometimes when I click on a link it will create a little pop-up that says something along the lines of "document contains no data". Is there some setting within Firefox that I need to change to prevent this or is this just something I'm gonna have to put up with.
P.S. - All the links are good, when I click them again they work fine.

I think that might be one of those "freaky cache" things. Are they pages that you have been to recently, and are returing to?
Either way, I recommend setting browser.cache.check_doc_frequency to 1 using about:config, unless you are on dialup. Ask again if you need help doing that.

I'm on a cable internet connection and I definitly need help doing that. I don't believe that I've noticed any difference as to whether it's a new page or a page being revisited, I'm pretty sure its happened in both scenarios.

MageB420666:
Enter 'about:config' in the URL bar. Type 'freq' into the filter bar that shows up below the URL bar, in order to reduce the number of lines of code shown. Double-click the line that reads 'browser.cache.check_doc_frequency'. Enter the value '1' in the box that pops up. For good luck, close and restart Firefox. This will also keep you from receiving expired pages (especially on news sites). I don't know why it isn't the default setting.

And now that you've taken a look 'behind the curtain', you wouldn't believe what sorts of other things you can adjust. And how many different ways there are to completely f-up the browser. All the fun and danger is hidden behind about:config!

Oops, I seem to have spoken too soon. The damn thing is still popping up. I even restarted my comp just to make sure, but it popped up again.
It will happen with pages I've never visited, and will happen with pages that I've just visited, and it won't happen all the time, some times i can visit a page just fine, but then the next time I try to visit the same page the damn little notice pops up.

OK, for more possibilities, check out [http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewto...?t=107957]this page[/url]. It has two good suggestions; the first is to change the popup into a regular page error (set browser.xul.error_pages.enabled to true), and the other is to adjust your antivirus/firewall software.

I'm having this same problem, and I've tried all suggestions in this thread (both about:config changes). The only firewall I have is the Windows firewall, which I have tried turning off, and I still get the same error. This is the text from the offending pages:
The link to the site was dropped unexpectedly while negotiating a connection or transferring data. This may be due to a network fault somewhere between the site and your computer. If the problem persists, consult your system documentation, administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP) as appropriate for further assistance. I'm hooked up to a University network (U. of South Carolina, if that matters), so it could be something they're doing, but why would ESPN be blocked? It should also be noted that using IE to try and get to these websites does not work either. |

Found the solution, at least for me. If you have tried all the other given fixes, and you still have trouble like I did, it may be PeerGuardian or your firewall/antivirus program.
If it is PeerGuardian, check «allow all connections to destination port 80» in the preferences window. The place where I found this solution is located here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=107957 |

How about "Options / Web Features / Load Images / For the originating site only"? I'd recommend selecting Load Images, and deselecting "Originating site". Also check the Exceptions box to see if you accidentally blocked images from Yahoo. Alternately, do you have the Adblock extension installed? One of its settings might be messing you up.

I'm on a dial up connection and have gotthen that when I've lost my connection for some reason. Also, it seems to happen on occassion when it times out. It doesn't happen often with my firefox so I've just learned to live with it. Maybe someday when broadband comes to small towns...
