Enter 'about:config' in the URL bar.
Type 'freq' into the filter bar that shows up below the URL bar, in order to reduce the number of lines of code shown.
Double-click the line that reads 'browser.cache.check_doc_frequency'.
Enter the value '1' in the box that pops up.
For good luck, close and restart Firefox.
This will also keep you from receiving expired pages (especially on news sites). I don't know why it isn't the default setting.
