Power Supplies/Cases
As evidenced by many of my other threads, I'm looking to build a computer. I've decided on the Athlon XP2500+ Barton Core processor and the MSI KT4V-L 6712 motherboard. The Barton proc has been shown to be easily overclocked to 12.5x166 with barely no overdraw on anything. (I'm not even sure if I'm going to do this, and if I do it won't be until it's been running stable for a month or so). I'm getting 512mb of pc2700 Corsair ram (although it's valueRAM not XMS -- I'm on a budget here :-D). Now that I've decided on all this, I'm wondering what power supply I should get. I'm going to run two optical drives and two hard drives, along with a floppy and the max number of fans the case can handle. The case I've been looking at is here, a Chieftec. It comes with a 430-watt supply, though it's a foxconn. I've also been looking at cases such as this, but for that price I'm worried they won't be good quality. I've also been looking at Antec's LANboy and other cases, and I'm not opposed to buying a case and power supply separately, though I'd like to buy from newegg. All I know about power supplies is that Antec is a good brand, and I probably need at least 350 watts. As you can see from my case choices, I want a window, I want a few 3.5" bays, and I'd prefer aluminum. Thanks for your input in advance.

I highly recommend the Chieftec cases. I got one about a month ago, I had no problems at all (with the exception of a motherboard screw that was screwed in waaay tight) transferring the innards of my old case to the new one. It's so roomy you could probably fit a small child in there Nice beefy power supply too.

I'm a big fan of Antec cases and Power Supplies. I've got an old Full Tower Antec Server case that i've upgraded with an Antec True550 Power Supply. I would definitely suggest at least a 400 watt power supply, since you plan on running all of those drives. Stay away from cases that are too cheap, since they may not be built the best, with round corners, easy accessibility to drive bays, etc.

I have a Chemning, who makes the Chieftec and Antec cases. Mine has the TurboLink 420 Watt PSU. You can get it from newegg under the chemning brand and it might be a bit cheaper. Or there is this, http://www.buyxtremegear.com/bluturcasxpi1.html, they are a quality company and never had any problems from them.

how's the power supplies in the chenming and the chieftec?
Turbolink's not on AMD's reccommended list, will this void my warranty if i use it? stable? also, the chenming's a bit more expensive but it has front audio, which I want more that firewire. Is the front audio pass-through, meaning it plugs into the back of the sound card, or does it plug in inside the comp?

Your initial query was about cases/power supplies. Try <a href="http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?forumid=42">going here</a>, or <a href="http://tfproject.org/tfp/search.php?s=">here</a>. Either way, you will get quality info.
