Transferring digital camera photos to computer
I am such a novice I don't even know what you guys are talking about most of the time. I have a high powered computer with I think it is 582 MB of RAM and with all the bells & whistles. I also am on the net with 1500 K downloading speed. How do I get my digital pictures onto my computer and how do I then get the pictures posted on this site as well as on an email to someone?

your cam should have a Firewire or USB cord to connect the cam to the PC, then prompt you to mount the cam in Explorer. Most modern cams use removable storage to mount the camera as a drive and you can just use Explorer to extract the pics. Unless you have win98 or ME it comes standard in all newer NT based OS (XP, 2000).

o wow.... i thought everyone knew how to do this xD.
Well, theres a bunch of ways to transfer your pis onto the computer. The easiest way is to connect your computer by using the USB port on your camera...if it actually has one. Then your computer should be able to recognize it and open up and explorer window. There, you should be able to see all your pics. All you have to do is drag them onto your HD. Now, if you wanna mail your pics, theres not much u have to do. Most e-mailing sites give you the option to attach a file. Just browse through your computer and attach the pic u wanna send. Finally, if you wanna upload pics onto the net, theres tons of sites that can do it for you for free. I prefer http://www.imageshack.us/ . After you upload, they give 3 different links you can use for the pic. |

Assuming your digital camera has a removable memory card, you can buy a memory card reader that connects to your computer via a USB connection. This is the faster (and saves your digital camera's batteries) than connecting your digital camera directly to your computer (USB). Your digital camera should have come with a manual and software explaing how to do this.
As far as posting pictures, I suggest you read these threads: http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...threadid=22397 http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...threadid=42038 http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...=&threadid=178

Dale, not to sound annoying or anything, but I expect your camera does have a manual. It's there for a reason, and probably has a very simple, yet extensive section on this issue.
Personal experience: install the software that was supplied with your camera, attach the camera to the computer (using the supplied cables). Typically, the software will then either do the transfer automatically, or they'll provide a wizard to help you along. The uploading to a website question is a bit more tricky. You need a website, or at least space on a webserver. This is typically provided by your internet provider. They'll probably be able to help you with the upload. Just expect to be dumbfounded by terms like "FTP", "IP adress", "port number", "username and password". |
